gbl marantz logoApparently Denon and Oppo are not the only A/V manufacturers that are working an Universal Blu-ray desk (noted-not in production yet, presently), Marantz also got one underway with all the guts and glory built upon the technology inside their reference SACD-CD player, SA-7S1. Like the Denon, it’s another D&M Holdings product, targeting high-end audio/video enthusiasts with deep pocket.

Weakening foreign currencies against soaring yen are slowly affecting the prices of Made-In-Japan electronic goods, globally; even the already high-price Denon flagship DVD-A1UD Universal Blu-Ray player can’t escape the reality. For the latter, there’s more frustrating news than price adjustment, the Japanese firm has once again postponing the launch of the World’s first Universal desk, but this time, much further behind to mid of October.

Denon set tone with the announcement of DVD-A1UD (DVD-A1UDCI, US release), the world’s first universal desk with inclusion of SACD, DVD-A, HDCD in their flagship Blu-ray universal player months ago, and was scheduled to due this month. Interested buyers with deep pocket may have to wait couple months longer, the $4,200 do-it-all desk has been postponed to due in March.

Denon was one step ahead of Oppo to crown the title of World’s first Universal Blu-ray Player; it wouldn’t be for long, and would likely to get smashed by opposition in the next few weeks. An email from Oppo popped in my inbox minutes ago with the latest updates on the year most anticipated Blu-ray player. Pricing is still unsettled; could be anywhere from $499 – $599 but Oppo will launch an early adoption program for willing guinea-pigs wish to get their hands on a beta unit. The program is said to begin in late December or early Jan, and only limited-quantity will be available.
