HTC Touch Pro2 Review

By Chris Davies on Friday, Jul 10th 2009 5 Comments

For all the analysis of iPhones, Android devices and webOS’ suitability for the enterprise market, there’s one company already a mainstay and with the smartphone legacy to prove it. HTC have carved a niche for themselves with sturdy, dependable handsets, often running Windows Mobile, and their Touch Pro2 is the latest of the bunch. It’s a serious smartphone with a considerable spec-list and considerable bulk to boot; in a world of waifish business/consumer crossovers, is the Pro2 a chunky anachronism? SlashGear set to finding out.

Dell’s Latitude 2100 netbook has already found favor with reviewers, with the education ultraportable tipped as top of the class for its sturdy build, neat classroom features and great viewing angles from the 10-inch LCD.  What we haven’t seen so far is the unboxing experience, so NetbookNews are on hand with a video of just that.

Manli’s new netbook, the M3, has fallen into the hands of NetbookNews over in Taipei, and they’ve done the only noble thing and unboxed it on video.  While the M3 may look like every other netbook around, it does deliver one or two interesting features: a fingerprint reader, for security, together with an ExpressCard 34 slot, and inside there’s also a free mini PCI Express slot ideal for dropping in a 3G modem card or GPS receiver.

T-Mobile’s latest Windows Mobile smartphone, the Dash 3G by HTC, is set to land this week, but over at PhoneMag they’ve already been playing with the QWERTY candybar.  Vincent has suffered a bout of nostalgia with the new handset, comparing it to the original Dash, but the new Dash 3G keyboard racks up the kudos as “one of the best if not the best” he’s used.

Sharp’s Mebius NJ70A is still too rich for our blood – $1,000 or thereabouts is simply too much to pay for a netbook, no matter how slick its touchscreen trackpad - but that doesn’t mean we’re not interested in lapping up all the information about the distinctive ultraportable that we can.  UMPC Fever have acquired one of the  Atom N270 netbooks and promptly shot a video unboxing.

After mintpass made a few pre-release mintpad MID units available to touchscreen-loving early adopters last week, the first English-language unboxing and hands-on for the 2.86-inch device is here.  We’re entirely unsurprised to see that Jenn from Pocketables is first; she’s already impressed with the build-quality of the WiFi-enabled mintpad, together with the range of accessories they include.

Novatel Wireless’ MiFi intelligent personal hotspot was one of our top 5 gadgets from ShowStoppers back in April, and had floored us a few months earlier in Barcelona.  Having released their CDMA EVDO Rev.A MiFi 2200 on Verizon and Sprint to very positive reaction, the company is now launching its GSM 3G HSPA model, the MiFi 2352.  As well as the ability to share a single mobile broadband connection among up to five WiFi users, the MiFi 2352 brings a few new tricks to the table; check out the full SlashGear review after the cut.

Video glasses still haven’t caught on quite as manufacturers might like them to have, but that hasn’t stopped them from scaling up the specifications and the marketing hyperbole to try and tempt us in.  Latest to cross the SlashGear test bench are Q-London’s 3D 80-inch Video Eyewear, billed as providing the same viewing experience as having an 80-inch TV two meters away.  Bold claims; read on to see whether the Q-London system delivered.

We already know that the ASUS Eee PC 1005HA trades a little of its 1008HA Seashell brethren’s waifish slenderness for a full sized VGA port and removable battery, and now we’ve got the first unboxing video.  Liliputing acquired a 1005HA a little in advance of the imminent US launch; check out their video after the cut.

Nokia’s N97 flagship smartphone began shipping to US customers last week, and a white review unit has dropped onto the desk of our sibling-site PhoneMag.  They’ve done the honorable thing and put together a full unboxing video and hands-on gallery, as well as sharing some initial impressions about the long-awaited N97.
