The great thing about only spotting a new device when it launches is that you don’t have to wait too long until you can see if unboxed and in action.  Gigabyte’s TouchNote T1028X convertible touchscreen netbook only crossed our paths yesterday, but already Liliputing have their review unit in to play with.

Production delays, doubts over functionality and the potential for limited supplies even when it reaches shelves: for a netbook, the touchscreen convertible ASUS Eee PC T91 has sure had some issues.  Happily the first models seem to be filtering out now, with jkkmobile taking delivery today and shooting an unboxing and first-impressions video.

Glasses correct your vision and sunglasses stop you getting blinded by the sun; easy, right?  Not so fast, because if you talk to Gunnar Optiks, they’ll tell you that their lenses can do a whole lot more.  Stacked with high-grade machining and coatings, including an oleophobic layer similar to the screen of the iPhone 3GS, Gunnar Optiks promise a reduction in eye fatigue and improved vision.  The company has sent a pair of their latest pair over; check out the unboxing video after the cut.

If there’s one segment in consumer electronics where it’s hard to stand out, it’s netbooks.  The race to the bottom line, together with strict rules from component suppliers regarding maximum specifications, means that the hardware of most machines follows the same, tired pattern.  To differentiate, some brands have gone for super-slimline designs, or extended battery life; Gigabyte, meanwhile, have taken a more unusual route.  Their Booktop M1022 netbook comes complete with a desktop docking station; our friends over at Mobilx.hu were good enough to send us a review unit to try out.

There’s no underestimating the appeal of the HTC Hero; since we shot our unboxing video and preliminary hands-on at the end of last week it’s been watched more than 300,000 times.  The third Android device to reach the market, the Hero promises not only an updated camera and design, but HTC’s latest work in user-interface, HTC Sense.  Can the Hero live up to the hype?  Check out our full review to find out.

Orange Toshiba TG01 Review

By Chris Davies on Monday, Jul 20th 2009 7 Comments

With product announcements and launches often so far apart, there’s always the risk that another company will steal your thunder.  Toshiba, though, have managed to pilot their TG01 Windows Mobile smartphone to market still wearing the “biggest screen” and “first Snapdragon” crowns.  Problem is, in doing so they’ve arrived well in advance of Microsoft’s new mobile platform.  Can the Toshiba TG01 still deliver enough to seize not only the Windows Mobile 6.1 top-spot, but push the iPhone off its pedestal?  SlashGear has been finding out.

It feels like we’ve been waiting ages for the HTC Hero to arrive, but the company’s third – and perhaps most exciting – Android smartphone is finally on the SlashGear test-bench.  Packed with a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen, 5-megapixel autofocus camera and of course HTC’s Sense, you can see the full video unboxing and a UI overview after the cut.

What’s that, you say?  Why, it’s ASUS’ Eee PC 1101HA, the 11.6-inch Atom Z520 model from the company’s slippery Seashell range, and it’s sat next to the packaging it so recently was unboxed from.  It’s the handiwork of NewGadgets.de, who have managed to acquire one of the netbooks over in Europe.
