Verizon’s DROID PRO by Motorola has turned a few heads among the usually loyal BlackBerry crowd, what with its blend of fashionable Android OS and combo touchscreen-and-QWERTY candybar form-factor. It’s a departure among Android handsets, and a welcome one at that; Verizon’s launch back at CTIA whet our appetites, and now the DROID PRO has landed on the SlashGear test bench. The second of HTC’s new flagship Android smartphones has arrived, and just as we put the HTC Desire HD review to bed, the HTC Desire Z has arrived on the test bench. Unlike the HD, the Desire Z makes do with a more mainstream 3.7-inch WVGA touchscreen, but counters any screen shortfall with a flip-out QWERTY keyboard. Hooray for mail! Today what’s arrived is the very shiny clamshell BlackBerry Style 9670, available in steel grey or royal purple. Of course, since I’m in Minneapolis, home of The Purple One himself, Prince, you know that the royal purple is the one that arrived on my doorstep. It seems like it’s been a long time since Samsung officially announced the Galaxy Tab back at IFA 2010 in early September. Since then we’ve seen gradual European availability of the Android slate, in the run-up to a UK launch on November 1 and broad US sales on all four major carriers in the middle of next month. Today, DHL dropped off a wooden crate on the SlashGear doorstep, with a shiny new European-spec Galaxy Tab inside; check out the unboxing uncrating after the cut, together with a video demo and some first impressions.

If our hands-on time with the new 2010 MacBook Air models told us anything, it’s that we had to have some for ourself; happily Apple obliged, and so we thought we’d share the unboxing experience with you. As ever, Apple’s packaging design is minimalist, slick and beautiful – just like the new 11.6- and 13.3-inch ultraportables themselves, in fact.
This week may be all about the run up to the European launch of Windows Phone 7, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t an interesting slice of Android on its way to shelves as well. The HTC Desire HD has just dropped over at our sibling site Android Community, where no time has been wasted unboxing the 4.3-inch Froyo smartphone and playing with its new Sense enhancements.
Nikon's D7000 DSLR isn't expected to go on sale for a few days yet, but it seems Best Buy can't quite help themselves; the lure of taking money from customers' wallets when there's perfectly good stock sitting around in warehouses is too great, and so we've got the first two unboxing videos from lucky D7000 owners Geoff and PanicInJune. The 16.2-megapixel camera isn't exactly brimming with surprise inside the box, but it's always nice to get a sneak preview.

Whether or not 28 days between its announcement and it shipping sets a new record for the company, the Nokia C7 is a welcome addition to the Finn’s smartphone line-up. Slotting into the company’s mainstream range, it’s the second Symbian^3 device after the Nokia N8 we reviewed a few days ago. More first-impressions, plus hands-on photos and video after the cut.
Final software, final hardware, finally shipping – it’s N8 day, and the Nokia team is unsurprisingly pretty pleased with itself for making it inside the Q3 window. So how does the N8 hold up? We’ve used plenty of different prototypes along various stages of the development path, and it’s fair to say some have been patchier than others.

Nokia’s N8 started shipping to pre-order customers today, slipping just inside their Q3 2010 promise, and the Finns were kind enough to offer us one of the first from the production line. Fresh out of Helsinki, the new N8‘s are certainly well made and feel just as premium in the hand as the prototypes always did.
Looks like the first WeTab tablets are out in the wild, with the Atom-based MeeGo slate now up for sale at Amazon Germany (€449 for the 16GB model; €669 for the 32GB model with GPS and 3G/UMTS) and NewGadgets having time to shoot the customary unboxing video. It's still too early for any real feedback - though we already know it won't have any sort of app store access, at least for the first few months - but you can at least see what you get in the box.
