Nokia Booklet 3G unboxed

By Chris Davies on Wednesday, Sep 2nd 2009 No Comments

While we had a chance to play with the Nokia Booklet 3G last night, what we didn’t see was the final retail packaging for the upcoming highly-connected netbook.  That turned up today for an impromptu photo-shoot, so check out the full gallery – plus details of what will be in the box – after the cut.

In case London-based readers of SlashGear forgot, this morning saw carrier Orange put the expensive-but-attractive LG GD910 watch-phone on sale at their flagship store.  Electricpig cashed in their premium bonds and stopped by to pick up one of the limited edition touchscreen handsets, promptly throwing up an unboxing gallery and some first impressions.

Samsung may be delaying their N510 Ion-based netbook in the US, but someone in Germany obviously didn’t get the same memo.  NetbookNews has not only unboxed the 11.6-inch notebook but thrown up some comparison shots between it and the smaller Samsung NC10.  There’s also some demo footage showing HD video performance of both systems side-by-side, in case you’re really wondering what difference the GeForce GPU makes.

Back when we reviewed the first Nanovision MIMO USB monitors, the UM-710 and UM-730, we wondered whether price and niche appeal would see them a passing fad. The proliferation of roughly 7-inch USB display rivals in the intervening months would seem to suggest that fear was unfounded, and indeed Nanovision are back with their second generation of companion monitors. Now narrowed down to two units – the basic MIMO 710-S and the touchscreen MIMO 720-S – we’ve had the finger-friendly model on our desk for the past week. Check out the full review after the cut.

The first of the Always Innovating Touch Books are reaching pre-order customers, and so we’re seeing the fledgling steps of a new, still-intriguing platform.  The company had promised a somewhat spartan launch, and that’s exactly how it seems to be panning out: in the box there’s the Touch Book itself, a stylus, AC adapter and some magnets, and nothing else; no manual, no guidance, nothing.

Update: Always Innovating’s Gregoire tells us the missing manual was an oversight with just a few units; you can also access the user guide here [pdf link].

A whole lot bigger than the IdeaCentre Q700, but ironically packing less potent components, the Lenovo IdeaCentre C300 is the company’s entry-level all-in-one and relies on Intel’s Atom 230 or 330 1.6GHz CPU for its (limited) grunt.  Over at Nettop Review they’ve been unboxing the 20-inch widescreen nettop, finding that while it may lack power, it doesn’t cut corners on build quality.

Kohjinsha’s SK3 UMPC landed quietly in Japan back in June, and since then we’ve heard little about the 7-inch touchscreen convertible.  Happily the team over at Conics have been able to source at least one SK3, and they’ve shared the video unboxing with us.  Let’s just say, unless they have particularly large hands at Conics, the little Kohjinsha really is tiny.

There’s not a huge amount we can say about the HTC Touch Pro2 for T-Mobile that we didn’t say in our original review of the smartphone. Back then we described the Euro-version of the Pro2 as “a solid business buy and a strong contender for anybody prioritizing text-entry when mobile”, and neither has changed in its conversion to T-Mobile’s 3G bands. After the cut, our unboxing video, hands-on report and live photo gallery.

The great thing about only spotting a new device when it launches is that you don’t have to wait too long until you can see if unboxed and in action.  Gigabyte’s TouchNote T1028X convertible touchscreen netbook only crossed our paths yesterday, but already Liliputing have their review unit in to play with.
