It feels like a long time from the early rumors to devices on shelves, but Microsoft’s latest PMP, the Zune HD, is finally here.  Packing WiFi along with a touch-sensitive OLED display, the Zune HD is based on NVIDIA’s Tegra 720p-capable chipset and promises not only music and high-definition video but also Internet access and gaming.

The Intrigue is a new clamshell phone from Nokia and probably the sexiest clamshell we’ve seen from Nokia in a long time. It features a distinctly different design, focusing on sleek lines and a clean and simple interface. The exterior display is PMOLED, featuring a hidden-until-active external display, as well as touch sensitive controls for media playback.

With the arguments over the BlackBerry Storm (review part 1 & 2)still raging, it’s going to take a solid, dependable smartphone from RIM to settle some users down.  The BlackBerry Curve 8900 on T-Mobile might just be that device: a more traditional full-QWERTY form-factor than some of RIM’s recent diversions, SlashGear has been spending some time with a pre-release 8900 and have some first-impressions in advance of our full review.

As looks go, the 8900 doesn’t break any new ground for RIM.  Happily, the Curve family has always been blessed with handsome looks and sturdy build, and this latest device is no different.  Solid and tough, it’s also surprisingly light and compact, nestling well in the hand.  The display is amazingly crisp, an area which RIM have been excelling in recently with both the Bold and the Storm, and the latest BlackBerry OS 4.61.114 does its usual job of making the majority of functions available from the first level of menus.  The keyboard, while not as aesthetically pleasing as that of the Bold, is responsive and highly usable, with just the right amount of key spacing (in fact some of us prefer it over the Bold) and clickiness.

WowWee ROVIO should be at the top of everyone’s list this holiday.  ROVIO is a WiFi-enabled mobile web cam that lets you see, speak and hear from anywhere in the world as if you were right there in the room.  I’m on the road a lot so my dogs are often home alone with friends and family.  With ROVIO, I’ll be able to speak to them and visually check up on how they’re doing from any web-enabled devices such as a laptop or even your iPhone 3G’s mobile Safari browser.

The BlackBerry Bold is finally here.  It doesn’t matter how many times I’ve played with the Bold, it’s never the same until your very own review unit lands on your front door.   It’s still a little too early for me to say too much right now, but I plan on spending the next few days getting to know the Bold.

Having announced it last week at CTIA Wireless, and seen it hands-on later that day, all that’s left is to unbox and properly review Sprint’s CDMA version of the HTC Touch Diamond.  The Touch Diamond has a 2.8-inch VGA touchscreen, EV-DO Rev.A, WiFi b/g and GPS, and includes HTC’s TouchFLO 3D GUI for hiding dull old Windows Mobile 6.1

The Acer Aspire One is among the most searched for netbooks here on SlashGear, so we were keen to get the 8.9-inch budget ultraportable in to see whether all the fuss is warranted.  Based on Intel’s 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor, our review model has 512MB of RAM, an 8GB SSD, WiFi b/g and runs Linux.  We’ll be putting it through its paces over the coming week, but until then enjoy the unboxing video!

iPhone 3G in the house!

By Vincent Nguyen on Friday, Jul 11th 2008 4 Comments

Here she is folks – iPhone 3G. The iPhone 3G is launching this morning starting on the east coast at 8AM, and I have right here our very own iPhone 3G.

First thing I noticed is that in the hand, despite the swollen dimensions, the second-gen iPhone feels just as, if not more, svelte than its predecessor.  The touchscreen display is unchanged and just as responsive, while the buttons have sharper edges and feel ‘clickier’ and more precise.  Click through for more images and unboxing ceremony video.
