It can't be in too many hands as of yet, but the Everun Note is about to be snatched out of them and dragged back to base.  Raon Digital have recalled the compact touchscreen notebook over "failure symptoms" that include high-pitched fan noise, blue-screening, overheating processor, inaccurate battery monitor levels or "an error related to the preinstalled e-dictionary and/or PDA authentication". Porient H12 MID with WiFi, touchscreen & digital TV

, Sep 22nd 2008 Discuss [0]

Porient is probably not a name you're familiar with, but then again they likely aren't too bothered about that unless you're looking to buy a few thousand of their H12 MID.  The compact handheld uses a 4.8-inch 800 x 480 touchscreen with a 520MHz Intel XScale PXA270 processor, 2GB of flash storage and a Linux-based OS. It's intended for mobile internet access, courtesy of WiFi b/g, but also entertainment thanks to DAB/DVB-H/DVB-T digital TV and radio tuners. Read The Full Story

OQO reversal on Intel Atom UMPC? New Atom product hinted

, Sep 18th 2008 Discuss [0]

OQO, makers of high-end UMPCs, may have lost their CEO but they could be gaining a new Intel Atom based version of their touchscreen device.  CEO Dennis Moore left the company this week, with company co-founder Andy Popell taking over the reigns; that seems to have loosened spokesperson Bob Rosin's tongue.  He appears to be suggesting that the prototype OQO Model 02 running an Intel Atom CPU spotted at the IDF conference back in August will, in fact, become a production product. Fujitsu U820 UMPC video unboxing

, Sep 18th 2008 Discuss [1]

From big boxes do small gadgets come, and Fujitsu's U820 (aka U2010, aka U/B50N) UMPC certainly doesn't disappoint on either of those counts.  The U820's 5.6-inch WXGA 1280 x 800 touchscreen might not be ideal for everyone's eyes, but the tech packed into such a small device surely has to earn Fujitsu some kudos.  jkkmobile has one of the first video unboxings we've seen so far. Lenovo's IdeaPad U8 MID concept looked to be just that - a concept - with no intent from the company to actually put the touchscreen-centered ultraportable device into production.  However Chinese buyers can now pick up the IdeaPad U8 from Lenovo's online store, priced at 4999 yuan ($731).  For that, you get a 4.8-inch WVGA touch-sensitive display, an 800MHz processor, WiFi, Bluetooth and 512MB of RAM. , Sep 12th 2008 Discuss [0]

I know a lot of SlashGear readers, like me, have been following the developing story of the Everun Note, the souped-up subnotebook from Raon Digital.  Since the first prototypes were spotted in June, and Raon Digital themselves leaked some impressive performance stats, interest in the AMD Turion 64×2 Dual Core 1.2GHz UMPC has been high.  After an unboxing and benchmarks, Steve Paine has finally posted his full review of the Everun Note, and while it's obviously not for everyone, this is certainly an exciting crossover device. Raon Digital Everun Note benchmarks better than expected

, Sep 8th 2008 Discuss [1]

While we wait for the first proper English-language review of Raon Digital's Everun Note, there's definite interest to be had in the preliminary benchmark testing from UMPC Portal.  If you remember, Raon Digital themselves stirred up some interest pre-launch by announcing some very promising performance figures; at the time there was a collective assumption that they were too good to be true, but in fact that turns out to not be the case. Steve from UMPC Portal has been able to comfortably use the Everun Note as a desktop replacement, with the setup you see here running two Firefox windows with five tabs, Skype and Livewriter with 434MB of RAM free.  In fact he's unable to tell the difference between the Note's performance in this setup, and that of a 1.6GHz Core 2 Duo laptop.
