Fox will offer digital movies weeks before DVD release

Fans of digital media have a reason to smile today, as Fox has revealed that it will begin offering digital versions of its movies weeks before physical Blu-ray and DVDs release. The first movie that will getting this treatment is Prometheus, which is scheduled to release on Blu-ray and DVD on October 11. Fox will begin offering the high-definition digital version of the movie on September 18, giving those who don't mind losing the disc about a three week jump on those who do mind.

UltraViolet cloud conversion to cost $2-$4 per DVD

We have been talking about UltraViolet for a while now, but the official announcement of the service will come today at 1 PM ET. Ultraviolet is the DVD movie conversion service that Walmart will operate along with partners Universal, Paramount, Warner Bros., Sony Pictures, and Fox. The idea is that consumers can bring in their DVDs and get them converted to digital for a fee.

Hollywood partners with Wal-Mart to offer “disc-to-digital” scheme

The movie industry have been scrambling to find the best solution to piracy lately. Last month Fox and Warner Bros. partnered with SanDisk and Western Digital to launch their “Project Phenix” initiative, allowing you to move DRM laced content via their hard drives. The digital locker service UltraViolet also launched back in January, and reportedly has 750,000 registered users so far.
