AMD have announced two new desktop processors, the dual-core 45nm Athlon II X2 250 and the X2 550 Black Edition, their first-ever dual-core AMD Phenom II.  The former boasts a TDP of 65W and nifty throttling to cut power consumption by as much as half when its full capabilities are not needed.  Meanwhile desktop and mobile users will soon have the option of watching worldwide HDTV no matter the broadcast standard, thanks to the AMD ATI Theater HD 750.

Dell have announced that their ATSC TV tuner option for the Inspiron Mini 10 will go on offer today, together with two new color options.  The TV tuner will cost an extra $50 on top of the netbooks’ basic $299 price tag, and offer access to over-the-air HD broadcasts.

With new features continue to evolve in digital frames, it’s hard to differ nowadays’ photo frames from PMP or MID devices. They stay stationary and much bigger but not longer burden a single role digital slideshow device for photo display. A recent Japanese frame maker even went as far as incorporating a digital TV tuner.

Permian have been showing off their Bluetooth TV tuner, which allows digital television to be watched on a smartphone.  The MOBView is a small, relatively featureless box that supports both DAB and T-DMB broadcasts and streams the content via Bluetooth to your handset.

When the iPhone first came out, many pundits suggested it would be pretty much ignored in Japan where high-tech mobile devices are commonplace.  That, of course, ignored the legendary Apple lust-factor, and the sheer usability of the handset; however, it’s proved tricky to ween the Japanese public off their feature-overload, and so, caving to public demand, carrier Softbank have announced a 1-Seg TV tuner for the iPhone 3G.

Pinnacle have announced their latest two USB TV tuners, the PCTV HD Stick and the PCTV HD Pro Stick. As with their predecessors, both tuners can receive free digital HD and SD TV over-the-air (ATSC) channels; however, they now support unencrypted digital cable (ClearQAM) channels. The tuner/demodulator itself has also been upgraded, and is now more sensitive for improved reception of both analog and digital TV.

TV addicts looking for PVR functionality on their PS3 will have to wait a while longer for Sony’s PlayTV device, is the official statement from the company.  PlayTV, which is a twin-tuner accessory compatible with over-the-air digital TV – such as the Freeview system in the UK – was first announced at the Leipzig games show in Germany last year.  Amazon.co.uk recently put up a pre-order page for the gadget, pricing it at £59.99 ($118.82) for a July 31st launch; however, that has since been taken down.

mobiblu cube3This is the successor to the Cube 2 and will hopefully have a better user interface as that was one of CNet’s main complaints of the Cube 2. It still has the OLED screen, FM Tuner, and 2GB of storage space.

This player also has support for MP3 and WMA formats which makes it PlaysForSure compatible. Other than the relatively low storage capacity, possibly difficult to navigate UI, there is the $99 price that you’ll have to get over.

Sure, they play and record on Blu-Ray discs, and that’s cool, but that’s nothing compared to the touch-screen remotes that they come with. Both units also have internal hard drives built in.
