Tumblr announces Creatrs, an ad network for Tumblr artists

Dovetailing into their other advertising initiatives, Yahoo-owned Tumblr is announcing Creatrs, an agency meant to connect Tumblr artists with interested ad agencies. A two-pronged effort, Creatrs will have two distinct moving parts: Network, and an internal cooperative at Tumblr made up of artists. The Network will allow creators to make their artwork available to brands and advertisers, which opens them up to syndication and better exposure. For now, Tumblr is choosing artists for the initiative, but it is likely going to open up to the community at-large.

Apple launches iTunes Tumblr blog

Apple has apparently been bitten by the Tumblr bug, launching its own iTunes blog on the service. As you would expect, the blog is decked out with everything music related, including those ever-popular GIFs that dot Tumblr's landscape. In addition to the music, users can also find videos, images and such on books, television, and movies, including things like the best books of 2014 on iTunes. It's the latest of what seems to be a growing social presence for iTunes.

Vimeo may not be the video service you go to, but changes introduced today may change that. The streaming media service today is rolling out changes to their mobile website, aimed at getting people watching and sharing more than they ever did via Vimeo. According to Vimeo, the mobile site now does a few things well, but no longer attempts to recreate the desktop experience on your phone or tablet. They’ve even rolled in the ability to save videos for viewing later, should you not have an account or forget to sign in.

Tumblr iPhone app fixed after plaintext password goof spotted

Tumblr has been forced to rush out a patched version of its iPhone and iPad apps, and has advised all users to change their password, after researchers discovered the apps had been transmitting login credentials in plain text. The new version of the app, released to Apple's App Store overnight, fixes a flaw where username and password details were transmitted without any encryption; if the user had connected over a public or compromised WiFi network, those credentials could feasibly be "sniffed" by a third-party and stolen.
