Functional electric TRON light cycle replica up for auction

Summer is closing in quickly, and many are preparing to get their motorcycle out of storage for the warm weeks ahead. If you're one of them but you're looking to hit the road with something a little more noticeable, Sotheby's is about to auction a bike that fits the bill: it's a light cycle from TRON: Legacy, and it is fully functional, meaning you could ride it to work if you want, assuming you can get a tag for it.

“TRON 3″ production tipped to start October

Flynn Lives! Again! Or so we hope. Fans of the iconic sci-fi franchise who were left on the edge their seats for a sequal to 2010's hit TRON: Legacy will just have to wait for another year or so. But then again, they might be faced with an even bigger cliffhanger then. Industry buzz is claiming that the next TRON film will commence production this Fall and even have an exact October 5 date. And while the target premiere is still in 2016, don't bet on it giving you closure just yet.

TRON hands-on: Videogame History Museum and ATARI at GDC

Before events began this morning in San Francisco for GDC 2015, we got the opportunity to have a peek at a vintage piece of equipment. This is TRON, the arcade video game made by Disney and Bally/Midway for the release of the motion picture event of the same name. Seeing this machine sitting amongst other classic games, prepared for attendees to play at will - my, what a treat. This and other ATARI-related pieces of history have been prepared by the Videogame History Museum for a special exhibit this week at GDC.

After many successful years with label Virgin/EMI, the electronic music duo known as Daft Punk will be headed to Columbia records with the promise of a brand new full-length album set for this Spring. Though the details surrounding the new album are scant, we do know that Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo have indeed left Virgin records - this is a monster happening due to their extended period rocking and rolling under the label - nearly 17 years!

Oblivion 1080p Movie Trailer revealed with Joseph Kosinski attached

Because you've more than likely never heard of the story behind "Oblivion", you're going to have to start with a viewing of the trailer and an understanding that this movie was first a graphic novel - aka a comic book. This story is about the future, it's got a lot of rather confusing elements made to excite your pants off, and you're going to freak out over the massive amounts of action in the trailer alone. You'll not know more until the third paragraph of this post after the trailer is viewed.

ISS Star Trails video sings space in beams of light

ISS Star Trails video sings space in beams of light

If you're looking for a lovely video to watch today while you eat lunch, journalist Christoph Malin has just what you're seeking - a "Star Trails" video showing time-lapse imagery captured by the International Space Station. The video you're about to see captures a collection of photos snapped by the ISS and places one image on top of another and another on another, making "Tron trails" through space. Accompanying this lovely set of images is music from a set of rather talented artists as well, starting with "Eileen" by Lee Rosevere and moving on to "Window #3" by Two Bicycles.

TRON: Uprising full trailer goes live

This week the folks at Disney have release the first full-length trailer for the upcoming TRON feature "Uprising", complete with release date. This next chapter in the TRON universe sits between the original movie and the recent feature-length sequel TRON: Legacy, here taking on a new form as a mix between 2D and CGI animation as opposed to live-action sequencing. This series contains a host of big-name voice actors and is set to run as a 10-episode mini-series via Disney.

You don’t want Google’s Project Glass

You don’t want Google’s Project Glass

This week we're getting our first "real" taste of the Google X project known as Project Glass, and with this preview comes a very Alpha look at how augmented reality might look coming from Google. In my lifetime, I've seen several iterations of what was just simply called Virtual Reality, this starting at Tron's long run and the pre-eminent "computer world" vision, stopping somewhere along the line for Nintendo's Virtual Boy, and ending up here with Google's glasses and transparent projection project. What the whole tech world should be asking at this point is this: why limit ourselves by leaving the house?

Lit Motors C-1 self-balancing motorcycle brings Tron to reality

Lit Motors C-1 self-balancing motorcycle brings Tron to reality

Though it doesn't quite leave light ribbons behind it yet, the vehicle the folks at Lit Motors have created here is the closest you're going to get to Kevin Flynn's "vintage" white cycle from Tron: Legacy without entering The Grid yourself. What you're looking at here is more than an exercise in aesthetics, too, it's a fully-enclosed two-passenger electric motorcycle which is able to fully self-regulate its balance automatically. Kick it in the side just like you would that robotic dog you've all seen videos of - it'll right itself just the same!
