My Little Pony Soldering Iron Brilliance

, Nov 11th 2010 Discuss [0]

One of the dreamers behind this Magical Soldering Unicorn, mister Sean Bonner, said in april of this year that "The value of something like this is pretty obvious." I think he's completely right, and not just in a "OMG THAT IS JUST SUPER" sort of way. Think of all the traffic the site he's working with is getting now, all because of this relatively simple DIY hack on a piece of plastic and metal - together, these bits form an alliance that is truly synergistic. Kids may really want gadgets instead of toys this Christmas, but as parents we know that some kids just aren’t ready for gadgets and aren't capable of taking care of them. The World is Ending – Kids Don’t Want Toys for Christmas

, Oct 25th 2010 Discuss [8]

The most recent Duracell Toy Report suggests that kids don't have no mo love for the Nerfs and Legos of our childhood. I say yours and mine because I'm relatively young for the world and I only got my first computer when I was in my teenage years, and I know the majority of the people on the internet still are people my age. I enjoyed action figures. According to Duracell, kids have switched over to Apple gadgets, Playstations, and Harry Potter video games. Read The Full Story

Innvo Pleo baby dinosaur gets updated and new colors

My kids each have one of the original Pleo baby robots that were green. Death Star Planetarium puts you in a galaxy far, far away

, Sep 30th 2010 Discuss [0]

Perhaps we're just still on a Star Wars high after the Verizon DROID R2-D2 by Motorola dropped on our desk yesterday, but we're eyeing up this Death Star Planetarium and - against our better judgement - wondering if we should pick one up.  The compact ball is decorated to look like the Empire's planet destroyer, but actually creates a map of the heavens - either real or according to George Lucas' imagination - on your ceiling. Nanodots magnetic building system is perfect for geeky tinkerers

Anti-Aging Glasses are Real, May or May Not Work

, Aug 30th 2010 Discuss [0]

One way to look at getting older, is the fact that while you progress in age, the technology that makes our world interesting is getting older, and better, each and every day. The other way to look at getting older, is to see yourself in the mirror every day, and notice all those wrinkles, lines, and other obvious indicators that you're racking up the calendar days. If you inherently think about the latter more often than the former, then perhaps these anti-aging glasses from Japan were manufactured just for you. Read The Full Story

Wild Planet Spy Video TRAKR gets reviewed: good for kids, great for geeks

, Aug 27th 2010 Discuss [1]

What can we say, we're big childish geeks and we love remote-controlled gadgets that beam back video footage.  That's why Wild Planet's Spy Video TRAKR camera-enabled tank proved so appealing (in a Rovio sort of way), and why Hack A Day's review of the $130 toy is so interesting: turns out, Wild Planet left plenty of fun for mod-friendly geeks to enjoy. Air Hogs Hawk Eye R/C chopper takes your webcam airborne

We've been looking to the Parrot AR.Drone to sate our desires for airborne webcam goodness, but Air Hogs might be able to do that for a whole lot less money.  The new Air Hogs Hawk Eye remote-control helicopter lacks the AR.Drone's iPhone/iPod touch integration and fancy quad-rotor hovering abilities, but at around $65 when it arrives later this month it's certainly cheaper.
