Honda, Toyota, Nissan and Hyundai plan Nordic fuel-cell splurge

Honda, Toyota, Nissan, and Hyundai have inked an agreement with various Nordic countries to splay fuel-cell infrastructure - and the cars to take advantage of it - across the region starting from 2014. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a combination public and private companies and organizations in Norway, Iceland, Sweden, and Denmark will see zero-emission vehicles and a hydrogen distribution network set up by 2017, following similar agreements in Europe.

Toyota may have already taken the time at Ceatec to announce its new Smart INSECT electric vehicle, but it wasn't stopping there. The company also revealed a new version of the COMS golf cart, and looking at the images below, it seems to have a lot in common with the Smart INSECT, at least from an aesthetic perspective. One of the main differences that you'll immediately notice is that the COMS doesn't come with doors, which is a pretty good way of distinguishing the two.

Greener Toyota: 21 hybrids by 2015 and $46k eQ EV in December

Toyota will launch 21 new hybrids before the end of 2015 and an all-electric compact car, the Toyota eQ, in Japan and the US later this year, as part of a significant investment in eco-friendly transportation. The roll-out will start with a new 2.5-liter gas engine which, Toyota claims, achieves a world-record setting thermal efficiency of 38.5-percent, and be followed by a smaller capacity, turbocharged version, a Prius that can power your fridge in an emergency, and then a fuel-cell system in 2015.

Stock Toyota Tundra to tow space shuttle Endeavor on the last leg of its final journey

Toyota Motor Sales USA has announced that its Tundra full-size pickup is scheduled to be the to the vehicle that drags the space shuttle Endeavour on the final leg of its journey to the California Science Center on October 13. The California Science Center will be the final resting place for the Endeavour. I mentioned previously that the space shuttle's trip down some Los Angeles streets required the removal of old-growth trees, angering some Los Angeles residents.

Toyota admits more recalls needed: 778k at risk of suspension collapse

Toyota will recall 778,000 cars and SUVs across the US and Canada, the company has admitted, having identified a problem with the suspension that could cause it to unexpectedly collapse. The recall, Toyota said, predominantly affects the RAV4, with 760,000 models impacted, though around 18,000 Lexus HS 250h sedans are also affected. However, the company also says that it is still working on a fix, and will have to notify owners when it's ready.

Toyota can't seem to catch a break from cars that are desperate to accelerate, with the Japanese company recalling a further 144,000 vehicles after spotting issues with mats jamming the gas pedal. Two models of 2010 Lexus SUV - including Toyota's hybrid version - have been added to an existing recall over concerns that the floor mats could inadvertently cause the accelerator pedal to jam.
