Toshiba reveals Lytro-style refocus camera module for 2013

Toshiba is readying a Lytro-style camera that could allow photos taken on smartphones and tablets to be refocused after they're captured, with a complex lens assembly creating data-dense adjustable images. The camera, which is expected to be commercialized in late 2013, grabs 500,000 pictures in one take, The Asahi Shimbum reports, thanks to an identical number of lenses in front of the sensor, each taking a shot with slightly different focus settings. Today we found out that nightly builds to CyanogenMod 10.1 are ready to go for the Nexus 10, which comes just a short time after nightlies started rolling out for the Nexus 4. IDC said today that Android will likely stay on top in the battle for mobile dominance until 2016, with iOS placing in second throughout, so it looks like the mobile landscape won't be changing all that much in the coming years. Toshiba Excite 10 SE brings 10-inches of Tegra 3 for $350

The folks at Toshiba have come on strong with a new contender in the 10-inch tablet space this week with the Toshiba Excite 10 SE, complete with an AutoBrite HD screen at 1280 x 800 pixels and stereo speaker action. This machine closely resembles Toshiba's past tablet-sized offerings and comes with an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz and 16GB of internal storage - as well as a microSD card slot. Toshiba reveals four-legged Fukushima robot explorer

Toshiba has revealed a new robot intended to explore the radioactive mess of Japan's Fukushima No.1 reactor in Tokyo, a four-legged beast that can birth a second, separate robot to squeeze through narrow spaces. The tetrapod 'bot - which resembles a Toshiba-branded coolbox on spindly legs, and carries both a camera and a dosimeter - is remotely controlled by a wireless operator, and has clever onboard intelligence that allows it to totter across uneven terrain without tumbling. Philips, LG, others said to be facing fines for CRT price fixing

It's reported that the European Union will fine six top electronics firms for price-fixing cathode-ray tubes used in older televisions and computer monitors. Toshiba now accepting pre-orders for Windows 8 PCs

In a press release earlier today, Toshiba announced that it is now accepting pre-orders for its Windows 8 PCs, which will start shipping October 26th when Windows 8 is released.
