Has Casual Gaming Killed the AAA Blockbuster Console Game?

The sheer amount of excitement surrounding Titanfall is enough to annoy any old-school, crotchety gamer like me who has watched the mighty fall and the seemingly insignificant rise. Titanfall supporters would have us believe that it's the next big franchise that will change the way we game for the next decade. And without a doubt, it'll perform well on store shelves at first. But whether the game will have the longevity to be a top-end title and franchise for the foreseeable future remains in doubt.

I don't say all of this because I don't think Titanfall could be a great game or that I have something against blockbuster titles. I've just come to realize over the last couple of years that the days of AAA blockbuster console games truly revolutionizing the way we play games might be dead.

Titanfall release date on Xbox 360 explained: “a better game a few weeks later”

This week as the Titanfall Beta gameplay comes to a close, the one group of users not able to play the game thus far comes to the forefront: Xbox 360 users. These ravenous users of the past generation’s Microsoft-made console have been rumbling about the release date for the Xbox 360 version of Titanfall being later than the Xbox One / PC - that date is March 25th, mind you, while the Xbox One and PC will see the game released on the 11th. Titanfall Beta codes use extended: servers down time to thank

It would appear that the Titanfall servers bug was a big enough issue over the past 24 hours or so to warrant an extension of the Beta time for users in the long run. In other words - if you were bummed that you'd not be getting as much Titanfall Beta time as possible due to the down-time this weekend, have no fear! The Titanfall Beta has been extended "at least a day".

UPDATE: Respawn Entertainment has decided to make this an OPEN Beta!
