Titanfall 2 trailer teases swordplay and PS4 release

This morning Respawn Entertainment and EA Games revealed their first teaser trailer for Titanfall 2. It's been a couple of seasons out, now, since the first Titanfall was released, and the companies have been bashing about since then, creating another mech warrior game that - this time - appears to be ready to give you a bit more freedom in how you'll be tearing your opponents apart. In the first Titanfall, it's a lot more about the guns. In this one - we've just seen a sword. It's a big-time sword-fighting action brawler, for that we can cross our fingers without a doubt.

Titanfall sequel tipped by new McFarlane Toys figures

It's been some time since Xbox One-exclusive Titanfall took the FPS-genre by storm, with its multiplayer-only, mech-based combat. Developed by Respawn, itself made up of Call of Duty vets, the game ran its course in terms of DLC releases over the first year, and now things have gone quiet for the series. Fans have been eagerly awaiting news of a follow-up, and the first hints of a "Titanfall 2" may have just been leaked by figurine maker McFarlane Toys.

Titanfall to get free-to-play version in Asia

Titanfall, the hit mech-based first-person shooter originally released for Xbox and PC last year, is probably the last title you'd expect to go free-to-play, but that's what's happening. But don't expect it to be showing up on your smartphone or tablet, where free-to-play games are a dime-a-dozen. Instead, Titanfall will be getting a special PC release just for the Asian market, where the free-to-play genre is huge, thanks to a partnership between the game's makers and Japan's Nexon.

Microsoft’s Titanfall exclusive was a single-game deal

Microsoft’s Titanfall exclusive was a single-game deal

Titanfall's sequel looks unlikely to be a Microsoft exclusive, with Respawn Entertainment chief Vince Zampella confirming that the studio's deal over the AAA title was for the first installment alone. Details on "Titanfall 2" are, unsurprisingly, scant at this stage, but according to Zampella the collaboration with Microsoft - which proved so valuable in leveraging the server-side processing of the Xbox One Live Cloud, among other things - doesn't mean the new game will be Xbox One and PC-only. Meanwhile, he poured cold water on rumors that the next Titanfall might be free-to-play.

Titanfall re-released as “Deluxe Edition”

This week you'll find the re-release of Titanfall as Titanfall Deluxe Edition for PC and eventually Xbox One. This version of the game will cost LESS than the original release of the game and will include all DLC released since the game was originally launched. This should serve to summon a new wave of players to the game to keep the game going strong online. Titanfall is an entirely online-based game, running on Microsoft's Azure servers across the planet - without players, there is no Titanfall.

Call of Duty didn’t kill Titanfall: it was already dead

Call of Duty didn’t kill Titanfall: it was already dead

It's an absolute tragedy, the number of players that are playing Titanfall right this minute. It should be a good indicator that the game is in dire need of players that the game has been reduced to $19.99 for both PC and Xbox One - a good deal, by any measure. Unless you consider the possibility that you might not have enough players online to play the game. Is this Call of Duty's fault? Not by a long shot. Attempting to find a game that wasn't Attrition for the past several months (on PC, anyway) has been a mess.
