Mac Pro and Mac Mini August refresh tipped: Sandy Bridge, Thunderbolt and Lion

Apple is planning to release updated versions of its Mac mini and Mac Pro desktops in the first week of August, according to the latest leaks, with an update to Sandy Bridge 2011 Core processors and Thunderbolt connectivity. CNET TV’s Brian Tong says his insiders have confirmed that Apple is holding off on the new hardware until Mac OS X Lion is ready, with both the Mac mini and Mac pro being preloaded with the updated OS.

Apple is reportedly readying a refreshed version of its MacBook Air ultraportable, adding in Intel's 2011 "Sandy Bridge" Core processors and Thunderbolt 10Gbps connectivity. Have a peek at the image below and tell me what you see. Does that look like a Thunderbolt port to you? According to a "trusted source" speaking with Engadget it is. What's important here, perhaps even more important than the idea that this actually is a port that supports Sony's upcoming Thunderbolt interpretation is that this could mean that Sony is indeed sold on the idea of Thunderbolt and instead of going with Apple's Mini DisplayPort implementation, they've chosen a USB port. Verizon 4G LTE Down Nationwide

Verizon's experiencing some stumbling blocks the day before the commercial release of their new DROID Charge by Samsung. The LTE network that Thunderbolt users have been using with speeds of up to 12Mbps down is curently broken. Completely broken, as in down nationwide. This is only affecting the LTE component of Verizon's network, their 3G network is as strong as ever. Verizon is aware of the problem and has it's engineers working for a fix.
