Transformer Prime available 12/19 says ASUS

In addition to our first hands-on post and introduction to our review series on the ASUS Transformer Prime, we’ve got official word from the manufacturer on availability of the device in stores. While recent unconfirmed reports had the tablet coming out early in December, we’ve now got confirmation coming straight from ASUS that shipments should line up with the start of the week of 12/19/2011, this setting the release about one week later than the incorrect accounts. Furthermore, the first firmware over the air update is set to be released on the second of December, this putting it in plenty of time to be popping up on new Prime owners screens right out of the box.

Asus Transformer Prime available for pre-order at Best Buy now

The next most powerful Android device on earth is now available for pre-order from Best Buy, that being the Asus Transformer Prime, an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor toting 10.1-inch Honeycomb tablet. This device is available for pre order in two forms: one with a gray back, the other with a champagne back. Both models have 32GB of data storage built-in with a microSD card slot to expand by an additional 32GB if you wish. They've also got the official champagne-colored keyboard dock and a mystery portable dock which we must assume is the gray-colored keyboard dock, both up for $149.99 and at pre-order status as well. ASUS Transformer Prime gets ICS video tease

NVIDIA has tossed a new video up onto YouTube that shows one of the NVIDIA folks walking through a few features of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on the Asus Transformer Prime tablet. You can see the video for yourself at the bottom of this story. The demos are interesting, even if a bit brief. The Transformer Prime packs in the Tegra 3 quad core processor and will be the first tablet to land with that Tegra 3 hiding inside.

Lenovo LePad K2 Tegra 3 tablet benchmarks look to take on ASUS

We're all well aware by now that the first quad-core Android tablet in the world will indeed by the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime, complete with NVIDIA Tegra 3 - but here comes the second, a Lenovo device that this week has appeared in benchmark tests showing its upcoming might. What we've got so far for specifications on this yet to be formally announced device is a 10.1-inch display, NVIDIA Tegra 3 Quad-core processor, and indeed the code-name LePad K2. While this may end up becoming the real release name of the tablet, we'll just have to wait and see, as believe it or not, ASUS still has the only announced and official device out there thus far with Tegra 3 onboard. Samsung Captivate Glide review

When it comes to releasing new devices, Samsung and the rest of the manufacturer bunch doesn’t always aim for the top of the ladder – case in point, the Samsung Captivate Glide, a dual-core smartphone with a 4-inch Super AMOLED display and a slide-out keyboard. This device is being released on AT&T’s 4G network (not LTE, mind you, just regular ol’ 4G) and is currently one of the only dual-core smartphones with a keyboard on the market. If we turn away from the keyboard for a moment and focus on the rest of the device, I think you’ll find that while this handset certainly doesn’t seem to be up to the task of beating down the very top of the pack of smartphones out today, it’s certainly a wrestler for the dual-core lovers of you out there in AT&T Land.

HTC Quattro Tegra 3 tablet pictured & detailed

HTC‘s upcoming Tegra 3 based tablet, the HTC Quattro, has been revealed in a leaked official render, complete with hardware spec details ahead of the slate’s expected early 2012 release. Fronted by a 10.1-inch 1280 x 768 display, believed to use the same Scribe digital stylus as the existing HTC Flyer and Jetstream, the Quattro will pair 1GB of RAM with its quadcore processor, Pocketnow‘s sources say, along with Bluetooth 4.0.

Details of an Acer tablet running NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 processor with a Full HD resolution display have emerged, hot on the heels of the apparent confirmation of the mid-range Iconia Tab A501/A511. The Acer Iconia Tab A700/A701 was spotted in amongst profile documentation on the company’s support site, complete with a pixel-dense 1920 x 1200 WUXGA display and NVIDIA’s new quadcore chipset.

Lenovo is reportedly readying an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich tablet for launch by the end of 2011, running Google’s new platform on NVIDIA’s 1.6GHz Tegra 3 quadcore chipset. The mysterious new 10.1-inch slate offers 2GB of 1,600MHz DDR3 memory, Engadget‘s tipster claims, along with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner intended not only for biometric security but also to double as an optical joystick for navigating lengthy webpages and ebooks.

HTC is preparing a quad-core Android tablet for launch in February 2012, according to the latest rumors, along with at least two Android smartphones.
