Samsung Galaxy S III Review [AT&T & T-Mobile]

Is the Samsung Galaxy S III the most anticipated Android smartphone in the US this year? Given the reaction to the 4.8-inch flagship’s announcement – not to mention the pre-launch rumor and hype – and the subsequent furore around the European model, it’s hard not to reach that conclusion. Set to launch on five US carriers near-simultaneously, the Galaxy S III has arrived in AT&T and T-Mobile form on the SlashGear testbench, hoping to convince us again with their 4G and potent processors. T-Mobile has revealed the pricing for its highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S III but noted that quantities of the device won't be enough to support a full nationwide launch as originally planned for June 21. T-Mobile has provided an update on the progress of its $4 billion 4G LTE buildout today, announcing that the network is on track to roll out in early 2013. Verizon likely to divest spectrum for cable deal

Verizon's proposed $3.6 billion deal to snatch up unused AWS spectrum from a coalition of cable companies in exchange for joint marketing will likely require the carrier to divest some of that spectrum. Senator Herb Kohl, chairman of the Senate Antitrust Subcommittee, who urged against the AT&T and T-Mobile deal that later crumbled, has issued a letter this week raising competition concerns surrounding the Verizon deal. If you've got a 3G device that only seldomly needs an actual mobile connection, like a tablet or hotspot, you're no doubt frustrated that they're normally sold with expensive contract plans. T-Mobile details restructuring, 900 jobs cut, 550 new hires

T-Mobile has detailed its restructuring plans and new job cuts, which it announced earlier this week. The carrier will be cutting a net of 350 jobs, which includes eliminating 900 positions and adding 550 new hires later this year. The struggling carrier had recently cut 1900 jobs and closed 7 call centers, following its failed AT&T merger. T-Mobile USA subscribers using the HTC Sensation will have to choose between free tethering and an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade, with the carrier's fine-print revealing mobile hotspot use will no longer be overlooked. "HTC Sensation 4G [users] will be required to add Wi-Fi Mobile Hotspot feature in order to use the service after completing this update"the Android 4.0 software update support document confirms, ahead of the new firmware's release on Wednesday this week. T-Mobile turns down Verizon’s 700MHz spectrum sale

Verizon's proposed purchase of $3.9 billion worth of US wireless spectrum formerly reserved for over-the-air cable broadcasts is not sitting well with competitor T-Mobile, as they've said before. Today T-Mobile CEO Philipp Humm made it clear in no uncertain terms that the company wasn't interested in the bands that Verizon proposed to sell as a concession for its acquisition of prime wireless real estate in the AWS spectrum. T-Mobile boosts HSPA+ and grabs LTE kit; iPhone support this year

T-Mobile USA has announced the next phase of its 4G drive, with broader roll-out of HSPA+ 42Mbps service and new partners for its 2013 LTE network. The carrier has inked deals with Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks - both mainstays in the 4G industry - to LTE-capable kit at 37,000 cell sites across T-Mobile's 4G network, boosting signal quality and enhancing performance beginning in 2012. FCC approves AT&T spectrum transfer to T-Mobile

The FCC has approved the transfer of AWS spectrum from AT&T to T-Mobile, who celebrated the news this morning with the announcement. The spectrum to be transferred is part of the breakup agreement between the two carriers for their ill-fated merger attempt.
