AT&T faces US antitrust complaint over T-Mobile merger

, Aug 31st 2011 Discuss [4]

AT&T may be working hard insisting that it’s in users’ best interest for the T-Mobile acquisition to go ahead, but it’s a long way from convincing regulators. The Department of Justice has filed an antitrust complaint in an attempt to block the merger, Bloomberg reports, arguing that it would “substantially lessen competition” in the US wireless market. Meanwhile, the FCC has waded in as well, with chairman Julius Genachowski revealing that the agency also has “serious concerns” about the deal.

Samsung Galaxy S II for T-Mobile Hands-Off [Video]

, Aug 30th 2011 Discuss [3]

The most mysterious of the three Samsung Galaxy S II models we’ve seen today is the T-Mobile version. The reason for this is the fact that because this version of the handset is set to be the last released here in the states (that we know of so far), it’s not quite ready for a full showing. Therefor what we know about this device is essentially just the bare minimum: Exynos 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, extra rounded edges, and a unique T-Mobile experience alongside Samsung’s newest vision for TouchWiz. I’m sure we’ll be just thrilled as pie once we get to see it in action, but for now we’ve got to stay behind a plastic box.

Samsung Galaxy S II USA Family Confirmed, Verizon May Be Next

, Aug 26th 2011 Discuss [4]

It appears very likely, now that we’ve got a cool slightly pixelated photo and everything, that Samsung will be releasing the Samsung Galaxy S II in the USA next week on three of the big four USA carriers with slightly different configurations, software and hardware included. What we’re still not clear on is why news has popped up surrounding Verizon not being on this list. Given another bit of very possibly legit information we got this morning, a Samsung Galaxy S II upgrade is on the way as well, this time with a slightly larger 4.5-inch display and 4G LTE capabilities. AT&T Letter Damages Case For T-Mobile Acquisition

, Aug 12th 2011 Discuss [20]

AT&T has been trying to make its case for the $39 billion T-Mobile acquisition since it was first announced back in March. The carrier has been arguing that the T-Mobile purchase is necessary for it to most cost effectively expand its LTE network coverage to meet the demands of today's immense data needs. However, a partially-redacted document the carrier filed with the FCC was accidentally leaked and contained information that specifically derailed this argument. Read The Full Story

T-Mobile To Switch From Throttling To Overages For 200MB Data Plans

, Aug 10th 2011 Discuss [1]

T-Mobile may be one of the last carriers left still offering an unlimited data plan, but that could change very soon for at least customers on their lowest data plan offering. A leaked image of an internal document reveals that T-Mobile will be returning to overage charges on their 200MB unlimited data plan, which used to throttle speeds once customers went over the limit, essentially making them no longer unlimited. , Aug 9th 2011 Discuss [0]

AT&T's bid to buy Qualcomm's 700MHz spectrum will come under renewed attention, with the news that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) now intends to review both it and the carrier's intended acquisition of T-Mobile together. According to the FCC, "the best way to determine whether either or both of the proposed transactions serve the public interest is to consider them in a coordinated manner at this time" since it has "questions regarding AT&T's aggregation of spectrum throughout the nation, particularly in overlapping areas."
