Ford Sync 3 revealed: a whole new system with QNX

This week the folks at Ford have revealed their grand re-design of Sync. This is their in-car infotainment and control center software, and this release will be called Sync 3. The big departure comes in Ford's ending of their relationship for software here with Microsoft - Sync and Sync 2 were made with Microsoft - and picking up of BlackBerry's in-car software system QNX. This means touchscreen capabilities, at last, as well as a user interface that's far more recognizable to the smartphone-using age than previous Sync releases.

Ford Sync Applink Mobile app catalog and Applink 2.0 jump over the pond

Ford has announced something that European fans of the Ford vehicles will appreciate. The Ford Sync AppLink Catalog is headed to Europe. The official announcement was made during IFA 2013 with the initial launch in six different languages including English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Mandarin. The new catalog of apps allows smartphone owners to discover Sync AppLink compatible applications.

It would appear that even SMS Audio has decided to lay claim to the Bluetooth speaker universe as essentially every headphone company has done over the past couple of years. This machine continues the naming conventions started with 50 Cent's entry into the earphone market with the title SYNC by 50 Wireless Speaker. This device works with Bluetooth 4.0 aptX technology and will be kicking out the tunes this week.

Ford AppLink expands with Amazon Cloud Player and a developer-friendly future

This week Ford has made it clear that they're pushing forward with the app connection between their vehicles and apps of all kinds, not least of these being Amazon's Cloud Player. This new integration works with Ford's SYNC AppLink, here appearing with voice commands so you'll be able to switch through songs and albums by speaking commands out loud. This release was joined by apps such as Glympse for navigation and point-of-interest locating as well as SINA (weibo.com) for instant updates for microblogging, news, and weather overseas.

Rhapsody comes to Ford and Lincoln vehicles through SYNC AppLink

While we've got all sorts of cool little gadgets to check out here at CES, a number of car manufacturers are also showing off whats new with their vehicles. One of these car manufacturers is Ford, which today announced that Rhapsody will soon be available in Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with SYNC AppLink. This is the first time Rhapsody has been fully integrated with vehicles, so this is certainly pretty big for the popular music streaming service.
