Back during CES in January, we spent some hands-on time with a few products from SuperTooth. Among the products that we played with from the company were its new Disco Twin portable rechargeable stereo speakers. The speakers were originally expected to begin shipping in February, but that never happened.

SuperTooth has announced that it is now shipping the Disco Twin speakers for $199. That much money will get you a pair of speakers, with one being the left channel and one being the right channel to provide stereo sound. You can get stereo sound in some Bluetooth speaker bars, but if you want more separation between the channels, the Disco Twin is the way to go.

The Disco Twin speakers have 16 W RMS of audio power per speaker. That means that combined the wireless speakers have 32 W of power. When we went hands-on with the Disco Twin speakers back during CES, they had plenty of power to provide clear audio even in a very noisy and crowded space.

The speakers support any Bluetooth device and SuperTooth says that you have to pair your device to each speaker. The speakers have enough battery power for 3 to 4 hours of maximum volume music playback. If you listen at more moderate levels, the manufacturer says the rechargeable battery will last for up to 10 hours.

SuperTooth launch their new Disco Twin pair of Bluetooth stereo speakers here at CES 2013, and today at ShowStoppers, we ended up getting our hands on the pair. The two speakers come together in the package, and they’re about the size of a tall glass of beer. It’s a stereo pair, so one speaker is the left channel and the other the right.

The company had originally promised that its previous Disco 2 speaker would have A2DP technology that would allow two speakers to work together to achieve stereo audio, but that didn’t happen. However, the company introduced the Disco Twin, which offers a pair of speakers with, not A2DP, but Bluetooth, with the left-sided speaker being the master speaker.

Each speaker provides 16 watts of RMS power combine for a total of 32 watts. The Disco Twin speakers feel surprisingly robust, and they have plenty of weight to them so that they won’t slide around easily on your desk or shelves. However, the cloth covering surrounding the speakers seem a bit fragile, and could easily tear if you’re not careful.

Either way, the speakers provides excellent volume, and even in the crowded and loud ballroom, the speakers were crisp and clear, and were plenty loud with even a few notches left to go before it hit level 10. The Disco Twin is priced at $199 and general availability is said to be starting in February.

SuperTooth has announced a pair of new Bluetooth speakers. The models include the Disco Twin and the HD-Voice with the former being a pair of speakers offering left/right stereo and the latter being an in-car hands-free model. Both models are set to debut during CES 2013, however we have yet to see a firm release date for either model.

That being said, lets kick things off with the Disco Twin. This speaker, or more accurately, this set of speakers is designed to offer true right / left stereo. The speakers each have 16 watts of RMS audio power and feature double speakers in the front along with a bass reflex system in the back. Given each speaker is 16 watts, the total combined will be 32 watts. The Disco Twin speakers should be able to offer up to 3 to 4 hours of non-stop music playback or up to 10 hours of “moderately played tunes.”

NOTE: Final photos of the devices will be coming soon, and we’ll certainly be bringing you some awesome hands-on presentations during CES next week as well!

In terms of the HD-Voice, this one is designed for in-car use and will bring features to include the ability to announce callers in 12 languages as well as announce the battery level, connection status and GPS instructions. The HD-Voice will have a pair of speakers and a pair of microphones which sound help with the sound quality both coming and going.

The Disco Twin speakers will sell (in pairs) for $199 and the HD-Voice will be selling for $89. And in addition to SuperTooth showing off the Disco Twin and HD-Voice speakers during CES, the company will also have their other products including the recently announced Melody headphones and the Disco 2 and Disco hands-free car kits.

Have a peek at the timeline below to check our exciting history with the SuperTooth family and get an idea of what’s to come!

There are three different ways you’re going it give the gift of audio this holiday season, the first being the massive amount of smart devices out there with their own external speaker – so many do these days that it’s taken for granted – see: all of the smartphones, notebooks, and tablets we’ve worked with for several years – they’re all able to play music, imagine that! The second way you’re going to give the gift of audio is with speakers galore, starting with the Jawbone BIG Jambox and/or the Jawbone Jambox standard edition – or with custom color combinations if you wish with the company’s new “The Remix” initiative – it’s fun stuff!

Stand-alone speakers are almost always a good gift for that random person in your life in need of a “just because” gift: check the iFrogz Boost Nearfeild audio speaker for example. If you’ve got a smartphone, not even necessarily if you’ve got an iPhone, your gift receiver will be amazed at the hot sound enhancement that occurs with this fabulous unique technology. We also suggest you take a peek at House of Marley for some bright and fabulous audio equipment – see their showing in our Redemption Song on-ear headphones review as well as our review of the massive Bag of Rhythm. Noone else will have those gifts to give at your party, you can bet!

Other highly approved stand-alone speakers we’ve had a peek at and enjoyed include, first, the SuperTooth Disco 2 – the original Disco and the Disco 2 remain out and about in our office on the regular. They’re out because they’re extremely simple to use and they’re both compact in shape – they’re just that nice. The Libratone Zipp has been an entirely reliable speaker made to work first and foremost with wireless commands from your iPhone or iPad.

Another of the most unique and creative of speakers we’ve got here is HiddenRadio – a speaker that connects to your smartphone (if you wish) then plays music louder or softer based on how high or low the knob is on the device. For those of you who want to go just about as wireless as a non-battery device will bring you, you’ll want to see the Sonos collection for music in your home – and stay tuned to SlashGear for a review of the Sonos SUB – it’s bumping right now for real.

For those of you that don’t want to spend too much cash but do want to afford a pair of headphones rather than a tiny pair of earbuds, there’s always the greatness of Tenqa Remxd – a hot ticket indeed for very, very few dollars from you. Moving up the scale as far as headphone quality goes we’ve got (in no particular order), Marshall Major Pitch Black headphones, ThinkSound ms01 monitor series earbuds, the Jabra Supreme-UC Bluetooth headset (wireless greatness), and don’t forget the Monster Inspiration Active Noise Cancellation Headphones – they’re beastly!

The folks at Plantronics have been hitting it correct this year with gems such as the BackBeat Go wireless earbuds and the lovely Plantronics m55 bluetooth headset to kick up the market in the quality sector. This year Apple also revealed their own new and updated pair of earbuds called Apple Earpods – they drown your eardrums in lovely warm sound! The team at V-MODA has been coming correct this year too with such beasts as the V-MODA Limited Edition Crossfade LP2 headphones as well as the slightly newer and slightly smaller V-MODA Crossfade M-80 White Pearl headphones – both are powerful and made with extra high-quality materials to boot!

This week we’ve got our hands on the next generation in Bluetooth (or wired!) stereo sound with the SuperTooth DISCO 2 A2DP wireless speaker. This device touts the ability to connect with style to any Bluetooth A2DP device – including the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch – as well as a variety of PCs, MP3 players, and more. This next-generation device takes all the great qualities of the original SuperTooth Disco and adds a whole new body, color collection, and an upgrade to Bluetooth 4.0.

The previous version of this device brought on 28 Watt RMS audio power while this “2″ model brings just 16 Watt RMS – but before you go scratching your head wondering why SuperTooth would deliver a lower number on a newer product, you’ll want to check the price. While the first generation DISCO would and still very well may cost you close to $150, this DISCO 2 model is popping up for $99.00 – savings in the blaster department.

While the first model does have some more hardcore specifications to back up its price – this model still on the market and going strong, mind you – the DISCO 2 appears more appealing for the youth generation simply because it’s prettier. You can get this device in Black (as seen in this review), Pink, Yellow, or Red. It’s an machine that’s undeniably simple to operate, it’s a hundred bucks, and it blasts audio right in your face.

You’ve got apTX protocol compatibility so you can keep the sound levels of your original audio files each time you hook up with the unit. Sound quality remains powerful regardless of if you’re using the basic 3.5mm stereo analog audio input or the wireless Bluetooth connection this device was made to show off. With 2 speakers up front and a “high efficiency bass reflex system” as they call it on the back, your ability to get loud is quite apparent.

This device comes in at 182 mm tall and 108 mm wide with a depth of 70mm, and the whole thing weighs just 552.7 grams – aka just over a pound. You can plug this speaker into the wall for as much life as you want, or you can use its internal rechargeable battery for several hours of completely wireless action. On average we’ve gotten several full-length 2 and 3 hour movies played with this device as the sole wireless speaker without need for a charge – quite nice indeed.

Check out your options and let us know if you plan on picking this speaker up SOON – check out SuperTooth’s online shop for availability – for $99 USD right out the gate. Also check out our timeline below for additional SuperTooth review and hands-on experiences!

It’s time once again for SuperTooth to bring on an in-car speakerphone world to a boiling point with the SuperTooth Crystal. This device is nearly as iconically shaped as its predecessor with the SuperTooth HD, and certainly has enough functionality to make up for the fact that it doesn’t look quite as flashy. Here in the Crystal you’ve got exactly what SuperTooth promises: high quality in-car Bluetooth connected speakerphone action.

This device connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth and allows you to use it as a surrogate for your device’s speakers and microphones. In other words, you can keep your smartphone in your pocket and this device will allow you to talk to your friends in the car without literally holding your phone up to your head. Once you’ve got this device synced up properly – just a couple of button taps and you’re done – you’ve only to insert it in your car with its included metal clip.

The metal clip connects to the actual device via the Crystal’s built-in magnet, and you’ll be good to go if you want to keep the device up above you on your sun visor or if you want to pop the device off for a moment’s inspection. This device is 130 x 50 x 14 mm, small enough to fit in your hand or pocket quite easily, and has a battery capacity that will have you talking for 20 hours or working with 40 days of standby.

In the real world we’ve not yet had a need to charge the device up, having placed the device directly in the car after taking it out of the box and photographing it for our eventual review (this being what you’re seeing right now.) The battery time here appears to be fabulous, and if you do indeed want to charge the Crystal up, it utilizes the same microUSB that your smartphone does (unless you’re using an iPhone, that is).

The iPhone does have one great perk over the Androids and Windows Phones of the world, that being an on-screen display of battery life where the rest of the smartphone world has no such functionality. The Crystal does also have subtle LED lighting that tells you the battery status if you’re not loving the iPhone on the other hand.

This device does exactly what it says it will do, clear audio coming out and going in for phone calls, and is well worth the price it sits at today: $69.00 USD in the USA in SuperTooth’s online shop. There are several colors this device comes in, one of them a rather flashy blue, but we recommend the classic black in the end over all. Grab it right now if you’re inside the states – outside you’ll just have to wait until they’ve got an update: it’s worth it!

There’s a brand new little ultra-simple fabulously powerful speaker on the block, and it comes in one whole heck of a lot of different colors: SuperTooth’s Disco 2, our hands-on experience with it right here before your eyes! This device is the next generation after the awesome original Disco we’ve already reviewed over a year ago, and the time is ripe for the second round to be a-launching! Let’s get this sound-blasting experience on the road!

Audio specialist SuperTooth rings this device in with one less knob than its predecessor and a few more buttons, making your whole experience slightly more intuitive. One thing we’re excited about on this model is the lack of a bright “breathing” set of lights, the last Disco’s system getting just a BIT annoying as it sat on standby for months on end. The good bits are all here, working with your bluetooth-enabled devices to bring you high-fidelity sound with a teeny, tiny footprint in your living space.

This SuperTooth Disco 2 unit is set to be connecting to your bluetooth devices with A2DP and will be will work plugged into the wall or with its own built-in rechargeable battery, just like the first winner of a device. This speaker is set to be released at the end of the first quarter here in early spring or late winter for the cool price of just $99. We’ll be reviewing the heck out of one before you know it!

When you’re in the land of mobile and so many devices come out in the span of a week that it makes your head spin, it’s easy to forget that there are other devices out there, devices that make your wireless day ever so much more awesome and excellent, devices like this bluetooth speaker right here. This is the SuperTooth Disco, a speaker that you can choose to plug into the wall or charge up for truly mobile wireless action. It comes with a case, its controls are simple, and we’ve got it hooked up to multiple devices at once. What’s not to love?

Physical Form

This device is essentially the size of a big submarine sandwich, and not quite a whole footlong at that. It’s small and powerful, but not the smallest nor the most powerful you’re ever going to find. At an asking price of right around $100, is it worth your cash? What you’ll be weighing here is the fact that it works right out of the box with no special instructions, the fact that it comes with a lovely case that you’ll never have to replace, and the fact that its designed exquisitely. By that I mean it looks really awesome sitting on your shelf.

And you can bring it with you. One of the most excellent features on this device is the fact that it can be charged up and work wirelessly. Once charged I’ve been able to watch an entire 2 hour movie without a problem. After that though, you’ll be wanting to plug back in. Bring it to a picnic! Bring it to the streets and have a rapper battle with a microphone app on your smartphone! This device functions well with every single device we tried to connect to it via Bluetooth.

In Use

Currently I’ve got this speaker sitting below my mid-tier Polaroid HD TV that I use for testing HDMI and the like. What I’ve got it doing is both playing albums for me from my Android phone and playing audio for me from my iPad 2 as it’s connected to the TV via HDMI converter.

It works fabulously and sounds a whole heck of a lot better than the speakers that are built in to this television set. Bass especially blasts through this tiny apartment. The volume dial here adjusts monstrous amounts – be careful you don’t plug in TRON with the audio all the way up and expect not to have a full-fledged electro-dance party on your hands.

There are some features on this device that we just did not need to take the time to get to know very well – the fact that you can switch through tracks on your device’s playlist via the controls on the speaker, for example. What you’ll be using this device as is a simple amplifier for your digital sounds – if you’re looking for something so simple, you’ll be happy you purchased this lovely brick of audio goodness.

Wrap-Up

The classic and simple aesthetic here is something that not everyone will be able to be satisfied with at $100 a pop, most modern technophiles more than likely hoping for a more stark or wild industrial design. On the other hand, these same lovers of sound will appreciate the bang in audio you get for your buck. Sounds over Bluetooth do not experience the distortion you’ll often get over a 3.5mm headphone jack wire here, and you’ll be happy with your ability to connect any device at any time (just not at the SAME time, mind you.) And what about cost?

The thing about the $100 price tag here is that it’s relative to how much you’d like to spend to amplify your everyday audio life. While it makes a whole lot of sense to compare the prices of $2500 computers, once you’re down to $100 for a speaker, you’re at a place where if you really need to think about the extra $50 here or there for a better or worse device, you should probably just skip the whole thing altogether and buy yourself a nice button-up shirt so you can earn some more “spending cash.” That said, I’d certainly spend $100 of this little device because it’s awesome and every other device I’ve got connects to it super easily. A winner!
