The app has been refreshingly redesigned, and will now have a Material Design interface that keeps it more closely aligned with their other recent app updates for both iOS and Android. The overall navigation isn’t changing, but the ‘currently playing’ screen is a lot cleaner and more modern. Fans of the larger screen will also love this update, as it’s the first time Play Music has a proper iPad app.

The system known as Deezer - with their service called Deezer Elite - is suggested (by the company) to be the largest global high-definition streaming service. They're coming to Sonos with this service this year internationally, bringing Deezer Elite to the wireless speaker system for several countries around the world - beyond the USA, that is to say. Between now and March 19th, Deezer users will be able to upgrade to Deezer Elite for free. Once March 19th comes along, Deezer Elite will be available to all users at a nominal fee per month, all for the glory of high-definition audio.

SoundCloud partners with Warner in licensing deal

SoundCloud has struck their first licensing deal, bringing Warner Music Group into the streaming business. In the deal, Warner will get a cut each time one of their songs is played via SoundCloud’s ad-supported service, as well as via a new SoundCloud subscription service launching next year. The service, which has 175 million monthly users, currently offers no royalties to any record label for offering their music via the service. Warner is the first label to earn money via SoundCloud.

Deezer acquires Stitcher, speeds podcasting initiative

When it comes to streaming, Stitcher is a name you hear pop up quite a bit. The streaming audio service is a popular place for podcasters to peddle their channels and shows. Stitcher is now part of Deezer, the streaming service that concentrates on music playback. The deal makes Deezer one of the better overall streaming service around, encompassing both music and podcasting. The move immediately gives Deezer ownership of the top rated Android podcasting app, and the second place podcasting app on iTunes.
