Steve Wozniak actor tipped for Jobs biopic

, Apr 27th 2012 Discuss [0]

This week the actor known as Josh Gad, aka the star of the hit Broadway play The Book of Mormon, has been tipped to be playing Steve Wozniak in the upcoming Steve Jobs biopic. Though we generally try to stick to the technical background behind a film when we cover such Hollywood news bits here on SlashGear, it's always fun to pop in a little actor action, especially when it has to do with casting a major role in our everyday consumer gadget environment. Now that we've got Ashton Kutcher playing Steve Jobs and the South Park creator's play star as Woz, who will they find to play Jonathan Ive? Read The Full Story

Woz newest comments favor iPhone or Android depending on who you ask

, Jan 16th 2012 Discuss [85]

There's one fair tech mind out there in the world, at least, and his name is Steve Wozniak - and this week his words are being twisted all to heck, either saying that he's in love with iPhone or Android, depending on how you see it. Whilst speaking with the Daily Beast, Woz, (the co-founder of Apple, if you do not know,) said first that he's had greater success with Android's voice command system than he's had with Apple's Siri, but next that he uses the iPhone as his primary device anyway. He also notes how Android has slightly better navigation built-in, but that Apple is his preferred system with iOS. Read The Full Story

Secret Apple Archives at Stanford reveal brand name source, video gems

, Dec 30th 2011 Discuss [5]

Though the actual origin of the name Apple Computer and how it was brought up might not set the world on fire with inspiration, the time between Steve Jobs' passing this year and now has been one furious maelstrom of interest in the historical leavings of the mastermind himself - so more than likely, you still want to know. The source of the information comes from a recently revealed (in short by the Associated Press) Stanford warehouse containing a vast archive of Apple-related media. Inside this historical treasure trove are documents, books, software bits, videos, and of course the original blueprint for the very first Apple computer, donated in 1997 after Jobs returned to Apple after his extended "hiatus", if you know what I mean. Steve Wozniak poses with his new Galaxy Nexus at Google Building 44

, Nov 18th 2011 Discuss [36]

It would appear that aside from those here in the United States that dropped a mint on an internationally shipped Galaxy Nexus and those of you living in the UK where they’re already in stores, it’s just the publishers who were amongst the lucky to review the device and none other than Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak who now have Google’s next hero phone in hand. For today, just one day after the UK launch of the Ice Cream Sandwich device, Woz was invited to have a Galaxy Nexus bestowed upon him along with a lovely Android 4.0 t-shirt. And there was much rejoicing.

Ancient Astronomical Calculator Reconstructed

, Mar 23rd 2011 Discuss [0]

Michael T. Wright, a former curator at the Science Museum in London, reconstructed a model of an ancient astronomical calculator named the Antikythera Mechanism. It gets it's name from the Greek island where it was found. For fifty years after it was recovered by a sponge diver in 1902, researchers had no clue as to it's possible function. By that time the ravages of two thousand years of being at the bottom of the ocean took it's toll through the effects of corrosion and mineral deposits. It wasn't until HP took reflectance imaging scans of the device there became clear enough picture to construct a working model. Wright's reconstructed model has the capability to predict the yearly motion of the sun, moon, and five planets, and is also a calendar. Read The Full Story

Apple Moves Forward Wherever Jobs Happens to Be

, Feb 25th 2011 Discuss [0]

Since January 17th when Apple founder and CEO Steve Jobs mailed employees a notification that he'd be taking another medical leave of absence, there's been more than a little bit of talk about what might happen to Apple and indeed the greater tech world should he step away from the head post. A study that's just been released by RBC Capital Markets and ChangeWave suggests that not only will only a tiny percentage of possible Apple customers say they'd be less likely to buy Apple products in a future without Jobs, but the vast majority of these people polled in this study said his departure would have no effect on their possible buying habits at all. FCC Net Neutrality Vote Commented on by Verizon, Steve Wozniak, and More

, Dec 21st 2010 Discuss [2]

As you might already know, the FCC Federal Communications Commission has adopted the "Open Internet Order," what some are saying is Net Neutrality - and others are saying is no such thing. The regulations adopted an Order that bans content blocking, requires transparency from ISPs, requires that network management and packet discrimination be "reasonable." Wireless broadband is exempt from all but the transparency and blocking rules. "Managed services" that are delivered over a last-mile broadband pipe will be allowed but monitored for "anti-competitive behavior." This move has been commented on by a slew of voices from all bits and pieces of life, check out a few of the more pertinent ones below. *Watch out for the Woz! Read The Full Story

Original Apple-1 Computer Sells for $210,000 USD in London

, Nov 23rd 2010 Discuss [0]

Today at Christie's auction house in the center of London, that Original Apple-1 (or Apple I) we mentioned 10 days ago sold for just a little under what it was expected to bring in, selling for a total of 133,250 pounds (about $210,000.) It came with a signed sales letter from Steve Jobs (you know who he is) and the original packaging. Christies mentioned in the sale that this computer, when introduced in 1976, was the only "personal computer" sold with a fully assembled motherboard, meaning the user would only have to purchase a keyboard, power supply, and display separately. Kinda like the beginning, ya know? The Apple I originally sold for $666.66 and was sold for about one year. Read The Full Story
