Bulletstorm removed from Steam: Games for Windows Live casualties expand

This week you’ll notice that the game Bulletstorm is no longer available on Valve’s gaming client Steam. While no explicit reason has been given, this is just one of a variety of games that will need (or will have needed) patching as Microsoft gets rid of Games for Windows Live on the first of July, 2014. Meanwhile, the Games for Windows Marketplace has been closed since August 22nd, 2013.

Valve “Free to Play” gaming documentary video released in full

The team at Valve responsible for releasing the gaming documentary "Free to Play" aren’t making any attempt to pretend it was done for profit in and of itself. Instead, released in its entirety entirely for free, Free to Play is a feature-length documentary aimed at changing the minds of those who view it, or for those that already consider gaming to be a "legitimate" occupation, sport, or activity, to strengthen their resolve.

Steam is down (again), it’s not just you

If you’re a regular Steam user, you may have noticed that this gaming network has been down a bit more often than usual as of late. Having seen issue just this past week and here now again not a week later, it would seem that a recurring issue must be at fault. And it’s not a scheduled maintenance point, if that’s what you’re thinking.

SteamOS controller redesign up close: buttons galore

SteamOS controller redesign up close: buttons galore

Back at Steam Dev Days in January of this year, Valve first showed off a glimpse of their redesigned SteamOS controller. After deciding it was silly to include a touchscreen on the gamepad, the original controller was tossed out, and the most recent generation began. "Most recent" as in - there’ve been many, many prototypes, but this one is the closest we’ve gotten to the final product.

Nosgoth gameplay in Beta mode: Vampire PvP on the loose

If there was one game I did not expect to be playing this week, it was a person vs person vampire-themed free-for-all online title from Square Enix called Nosgoth. This game isn't your traditional shoot-em-up game, nor is it a horror flick. It's somewhere in-between, and it's going to be completely free to play once it's released outside of Beta mode later this year.

iOS hero horror game “Year Walk” heads to Steam

While generally it’s the case that a high-powered game will be released to consoles and PCs first, then (years later) it’ll be ported to mobile devices, the developer crew at Simogo have turned the tables. In a manner that we’ve only really seen Angry Birds be especially successful at in the past, Simogo are releasing what many critics suggested was the Game of the Year for iOS in the year 2013, "Year Walk."

Defense Grid 2 headed to Xbox One, PS4, Linux, OS X, Steam

As one of the most well-received tower defense games in its day, gamers have long been chattering about a second iteration of the game Defense Grid. Hidden Path Entertainment and 505 Games are all about bringing the heat here this summer, though, as they’re set to release Defense Grid 2 (aka DF2) to consoles. In this case, it means that as the game is release to PCs through Steam, this game will be headed to Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network as well.

Call of Duty: Ghosts: Customization Packs get ducky

Today Call of Duty: Ghosts will be updated with a collection of "customization packs" that allow the user to see their gear covered with oddities. Supposing you enjoyed the holiday-themed layout for your deadly firearm in Call of Duty: Ghosts at the end of last year, the folks responsible for keeping the game fresh have just what the doctor ordered. Several new packs released this week include Ducky, Inferno, Circuit, and no less than Space Cats.
