This week the folks at Valve have released information - basic information, that is - on their first full collection of Steam Machines from a variety of manufacturers. What we're seeing is one machine each from the following creators: Alienware, Alternate, CyberpowerPC, Falcon Northwest, iBuyPower, Next SPA, SCAN, Zotac, Webhallen, Materiel.net, Gigabyte, Maingear, and Digital Storm. While we've seen a couple of these machines revealed by their makers before, we've never seen the whole group at once.

If you've had a bit of trouble accessing Steam today, you weren't alone - but the service is back in action here in the early hours of the afternoon. Having suffered what's being suggested to have been a bit of a denial-of-service attack before noon on Friday, the 3rd of January, 2014, Valve's Steam is now back in full action. You'll see users drop off at right before noon, Central Time, according to Valve's own "Concurrent Steam Users" tracker.

SteamOS beta now available for download

Following yesterday's promise, gamers who don't mind things a bit gritty can now head over to SteamDB and download the release of SteamOS. As anticipated, the release is a beta offering, and because of the operating system's Linux underpinning, it is recommended only those who are familiar with the OS opt to download. The download comes in at 960MB, and is currently unavailable due to traffic load.
