Google Doodle celebrates 30th ZX Spectrum birthday

Google has revealed another of its homepage doodles, this time celebrating the 30th birthday of the ZX Spectrum - a gateway drug into computers for many - as well as St. George's Day. The doodle is an 8-bit recreation of St. George fighting the dragon, mimicking the "advanced" graphics the ZX Spectrum was capable of. Read The Full Story

LightSquared wins 2-year life bonus

It appears that LightSquared will have an extra 2-year window to earn regulatory approval for its LTE mobile network spectrum as Inmarsat cuts them a break in the face of almost certain doom. This company. LightSquared, has been seeking approval to use a combination of satellite and terrestrial signals for months now, being turned down by the FCC in the face of breaking down GPS signals. While the FCC's current position would otherwise mean LightSquared would not be able to survive the summer, the group from which they're renting spectrum now has granted them a reprieve until March 31st, 2014. Verizon to sell 700MHz spectrum to gain AWS cable spectrum

Verizon Wireless announced today that it will be selling all of its block A and B 700MHz spectrum to get approval for its purchase of AWS spectrum from a group of cable companies to expand its 4G LTE network. The move comes as the FCC and the Department of Justice are mulling over the transaction, which has faced opposition from smaller carriers, including T-Mobile and MetroPCS. Read The Full Story

Leap and T-Mobile sign spectrum swap deal

Leap Wireless and T-Mobile USA have come to a license agreement that will see the carriers exchanging spectrum. Leap will be making use of additional spectrum in Phoenix, Arizona, as well as several markets in Texas. Leap would gain access to an additional 10Mhz of AWS spectrum. Meanwhile, T-Mobile will gain additional spectrum in Alabama, Illinois, Missouri, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Read The Full Story
