Q-TV 2.1 speaker system hides behind TVs

, Dec 21st 2009 Discuss [0]

Most of the HDTVS on the market today are attractive devices that are fairly thin. Many people like to get an entertainment center that is just large enough for the TV to save room. That means there is little room left behind for speakers on the entertainment center. Read The Full Story

JVC SX-SR3 iPod speaker dock debuts

, Dec 16th 2009 Discuss [0]

Logic3's i-Station Rotate got the swivelling iPod/iPhone system down pat, but it did so in a pretty slab-sided way.  Showing them the error of their ways is JVC, whose new SX-SR3 can hold an Apple PMP in either landscape or portrait orientation while flanking it with glossy black, curved speaker tubes. JVC TH-BS7 and TH-BA3 soundbar systems debut

, Dec 14th 2009 Discuss [0]

JVC have outed a pair of new home cinema speaker systems targeted at users who'd prefer to fill their room with sound rather than cables.  The JVC TH-BA3 and TH-BS7 are each soundbar systems: the TH-BA3 has a front soundbar, wireless rear stereo pair and a wireless subwoofer, while the TH-BS7 forgoes the rear speakers and instead goes on a serious diet to measure a mere 1.4-inches tall. Dean Brown Audio Can helps your beans to sing

, Dec 9th 2009 Discuss [0]

If ever a project begged for a DIY version, this is it.  Dean Brown's Audio Can tosses out the beans and replaces them with a mono speaker, and is intended to offer a simple, portable way to listening to music.  A second connector can be used to daisy-chain multiple Audio Cans together, until you're surrounded or deafened, whichever comes first. Yamaha YSP-5100 Digital Sound Project packs extra bass, wireless iPod connectivity

, Dec 3rd 2009 Discuss [0]

Yamaha have been quietly plugging away at their soundbar technology for a while now, and their latest model looks to be the most alluring yet.  As ever, the concept is straightforward: why have a room stuffed full of speakers when a single row of them - together with some clever digital processing - can reproduce the same effect.  Targeted at TVs up to 50-inches (as well as projector setups), the Yamaha YSP-5100 packs 120W and five HDMI ports. JBL Creature III speakers are Apple exclusive but work with PCs too

, Dec 3rd 2009 Discuss [0]

Way back in the day I had a set of JBL Creature II speakers. The things always reminded me of the ghosts from the Pac Man cartoon my brother and I watched as kids. The newest version of the speakers is the JBL Creature III and they have a very similar design to those Creature II speakers I had. Read The Full Story

Creative ZiiSOUND D5 iPod speaker dock eschews anything ZiiLABS

, Dec 3rd 2009 Discuss [0]

Looking for a guaranteed way to confuse press and customers alike, and dilute your new brand?  Creative have a good example: they've called their latest iPod speaker dock the ZiiSound, which you'd expect to thus include some of the clever ZiiLABS "StemCell Computing" magic they've been discussing this week.  Instead it's a bog-standard speaker dock, with nary a whiff of a Zii processor. Harmon Kardon GLA-55 glass computer speakers are horrendously expensive

, Dec 2nd 2009 Discuss [2]

Harmon Kardon have been known for putting out some unusually shaped speakers in the past, but we can't help but think that the company have gone slightly too far with their GLA-55 system.  A two-piece setup intended to look like chunks of ice, the Harmon Kardon GLA-55 pairs the company's Atlas woofers and CMMD tweeters for what they claim is the best sound out of 2.0 speakers. Twelve South BassJump delivers easy 2.1 sound to your MacBook

, Nov 24th 2009 Discuss [0]

The not-so-great thing about Macs is that third-party accessory manufacturers tend to view Apple owners as an ideal market to be milked, at least financially-speaking.  Twelve South's BassJump addresses a commonly-voiced problem among MacBook and MacBook Pro owners - that while the mids and trebles are reasonable, the notebooks' bass is somewhat lacking - by offering a standalone subwoofer.  Unfortunately the compact sub' also costs $79.99 Read The Full Story

Victor JVC super-skinny surround sound system announced

, Oct 14th 2009 Discuss [0]

Victor JVC in Japan have pushed out a new home theater speaker system, and unlike most such such setups it doesn't look like it will intrude too significantly on your living room.  The Victor JVC AX-FT1/FT2 amplifier and SP-FT1/FT2 speakers are 31mm and 30.8mm deep, respectively, but the amp still manages to output four channels of 20W apiece. Sonos ZonePlayer S5 wireless speaker makes distributed audio (a little) cheaper [Video]

, Oct 13th 2009 Discuss [0]

Sonos have pushed out a new ZonePlayer in their distributed home audio system, and in doing so drops the entry price by a (relatively) high amount.  The Sonos ZonePlayer S5 packages together a receiver and an amplified 5-driver speaker into a single unit, which for $399 (or €350 in Europe) undercuts the previous entry-level ZonePlayer 90 which demanded a separate set of powered speakers on top of its $349 sticker price. Paradigm SUB 1 and SUB 2 subwoofers are hexagonal, expensive, loud

, Oct 1st 2009 Discuss [1]

Premium audio kit manufacturer Paradigm have obviously had enough of subwoofers being the breezeblock-shaped lump unloved in the corner, and have whipped out their SUB 1 and SUB 2 models.  Each high-end hexagon slots neatly into the company's Reference Signature line, and pack six high-excursion drivers - 8-inch in the SUB 1, 10-inch in the SUB 2 - together with more amplification than most people could realistically need.
