Sony have released their latest firmware update for the PSP, and while v6.00 may look relatively innocuous at first glance, more careful reading of the changelist does suggest the company is paving the way for rental gaming.  Among the tweaks, Sony list “games can now be grouped and displayed in folders based on their expire date”; however until now the company has only offered expiring video content, not gaming titles.

Sony have officially unveiled their new BRAVIA HDTVs, the ZX5 series, complete with high-end cleverness such as 240Hz “Flow Motion”, integrated wireless streaming and edge-mounted LED backlighting.  The ZX5 range – which will land in Japan come November – will initially be available in 46- and 52-inch sizes, both supporting 1080p in a deliciously skinny frame.

A few weeks back, we told you that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 was seeing some really bad numbers, regarding return rates and that enfuriating Red Ring of Dead (RRoD) problem. Fear not though, as it looks like we’re starting to see some definite improvement on that latter part, at least according to the largest independent warranty provider in America. We don’t know about you, but we’re always excited when technology stops breaking, especially when it’s something like the Xbox 360.

I am not too sure about the PSP Go that will shed the UMD game capability. My broadband connection is not that great and it takes too long to download full video games for that to be viable in my house. I have to wait a good 30 minutes to download demos on the PS3 typically.

We’re waiting to see a toaster with an iPod dock at this point. Sony has unveiled a brand new set of PC speakers today, ones that the company believe are capable of “blowing all other PC speakers off the stage.” Bold words, but that’s what we’ve come to love about Sony over the years. They always have bold words. And they want bold people, with bold wallets, to go ahead and step on forward to take a peek at these new speakers, which have garnered a very auspicious title: muteki.

Yes, Nokia World is happening right now, and yes, they’ve announced a load of stuff today. But there are still other companies out there, and they’ve still got gadgets they want to get out to the rest of the world. Whether or not you’re a member of the Browser Wars was probably decided for you, long before you were born. One of those, “destiny calls” choices, and we’re sure that by now you’re probably stubbornly chosen your browser of choice. Safari, Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Chrome. (Is Netscape around anymore?) But let’s face it, there are a lot of people out there who would like to make the decision for you, right? On Sunday, LG announced that they are going ahead and releasing their previously planned 15-inch AMOLED television, and sooner than we could have hoped. If September wasn't big enough already, LG wants to wiggle in and make sure that you get to watch "your Zune HD" via a great looking, and brilliant display. But, are our wallets ready for another OLED tv? If LG can officially ship this thing, then we'd like to hope so.
