Sony WS410 transforms the Walkman into a wearable

When you hear of the name "Walkman", you will most likely think of portable media players or even, if you are older than two decades, portable cassette tape players. At CES 2016, however, Sony is once again redefining what a Walkman is. It's still a portable media player in the technical sense but instead of taking the form of a pocketable rectangular box, the Walkman 410 series takes the form of a wearable device. To be exact, in-ear wireless headphones that have been designed with rough handling and rough conditions in mind.

Sony’s new turntable straddles fine line between vinyl and digital

With the prevalence of MP3s and now hi-res audio, you'd probably consider vinyl records to be prehistoric artifacts. There is, however, a recent renaissance of the medium among audiophiles and Sony, one of the earliest companies in the music industry, is moving to capitalize on that resurgence. The new PS-HX500 turntable is anything but a regular turntable. While it of course plays those vinyl platters with outstanding quality, it can also let your convert those into outstanding digital versions so that you can enjoy them even when on the move.

PlayStation 4 Christmas gift is a block of wood

PlayStation 4 Christmas gift is a block of wood

A Christmas gift from no less than Santa Clause himself was opened this past week with a less-than-fantastic bit of content. Inside the box was a block of wood instead of the console itself. Cut to a similar size and placed in the box, apparently without signs of damage to the box itself. Amazing that Santa would have such a strange mishap, yes? As it turned out, Santa purchased this particular PS4 from a local Target store, where they were more than willing to take the box back and, in addition, give the parents of the gift-getter a $100 gift card for their trouble.

Report: Sony developing sulfur-based smartphone battery with 40% longer life

While smartphones continue to get thinner and thinner each year, their battery life continues to remain the same, and if the rising popularity of phone cases that feature an extra battery is any indication, that's something most users don't appreciate. However, if a recent report from Japan's Nikkei newspaper is accurate, Sony might be the one to save the day, as the company is said to be working on a smartphone battery that can last 40% longer on a single charge.

PS4 gets new Call of Duty: Black Ops III standard edition bundle

With Call of Duty: Black Ops III having already been released on consoles and PC for over a month now, it might seem like an odd time for Sony to include the game in a new PlayStation 4 system bundle. However, with PlayStation now being the official home of the Call of Duty series, basically meaning they get DLC packs and other content earlier than other platforms, Sony is betting on the bundle being a big seller this holiday season, especially for those who haven't picked up the game yet.

PS Vue Chromecast support ironically lands first on iOS

Streaming video content, even while available everywhere there is an Internet connection, is more often than not best enjoyed on a TV screen. But what do you do if don't have a dedicated set-top box or gaming console for that? Or even a dedicated TV? Luckily Google's Chromecast has introduced a revolution in watching streaming content, which Sony is now giving homage to by making its PlayStation Vue service compatible with the HDMI dongle.
