Sony grapples for relevance with Concept for Android thrust

Despite a few rough starts, and still ongoing rough patches, Sony is committed to the mobile industry, particularly smartphones. But, based on mobile business head Hiroki Totoki's statements, its vision won't revolve primarily around the rat race that is smartphone hardware. Instead, it wants to double down on the user experience, which, in this context, practically means the Android experience. Now Sony is taking the first step towards that goal by starting what it calls its Concept for Android Initiative in Sweden to tackle exactly that problem.

Sony Xperia Z3 clocks slightly better than Xperia Z4

Sony Xperia Z3 clocks slightly better than Xperia Z4

Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 just can't seem to catch a break. The ghost of overheating looms forever over its head and it seems that all that might actually be for naught. Vietnamese site Vật Vờ took both the Xperia Z3 and the Xperia Z4, a.k.a. Xperia Z3+, and timed their performance, one running on a Snapdragon 801, the other on the seemingly cursed Snapdragon 810. On paper, the Snapdragon 810 should run circles around the older, 32-bit chipset with only half the number of cores. Reality, however, begs to differ.

First, it rather quietly unveiled the Xperia Z4, which may or may not be limited to the Japanese market. And then there are whispers of an Xperia P2 that looks terribly similar except in a few areas. Now there is word that Sony might actually sell the Xperia Z4 in other markets as well, but quite appropriately name it as the Xperia Z3+ instead.
