Sony Ericsson XPERIA ray and XPERIA active arrive, plus txt messager
Sony Ericsson has unveiled a trio of new devices, including a pair of Android 2.3 Gingerbread smartphones and a QWERTY featurephone for the messaging-obsessed. The Sony Ericsson XPERIA ray looks a whole lot like the X10, but is considerably smaller, Crave reports, with a 3.3-inch 854 x 480 touchscreen, 9.4mm thick chassis and 100g weight.

Sony Ericsson dates XPERIA X10 Gingebread update, teases with video demo
Sony Ericsson has confirmed that the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the XPERIA X10 is scheduled to arrive in early August, though not everybody with the handset will get the new ROM. Those with generic trade models - i.e. sold unlocked and SIM-free - will get the update first (you can see Sony Ericsson's demo of Gingerbread on the X10 after the cut), but only select operator-supplied X10 variants will get it after that.

Apple could buy lion’s share of mobile rivals in cash estimate analysts
Apple could feasibly buy the bulk of its competitors using its cash reserves alone, it's been suggested, with only Samsung proving beyond its reach should Steve Jobs decide to go on a bizarre cellular spending spree. Sony Ericsson Android NFC intent tipped by NXP
Sony Ericsson will use the same NFC chip as found in the Samsung Nexus S for its new Android smartphones, according to the component supplier. NXP Semiconductors has confirmed that Sony Ericsson will be slotting the PN65 NFC solution - consisting of the NFC radio controller, the embedded secure element and NFC software - into future devices, enabling mobile payments and other short-range wireless use.

After a Couple Weeks with the Xperia PLAY
Let’s talk about the Xperia PLAY for a moment, speaking first about how nice it feels to use, then working in some games, since that’s exactly what this device is all about. Let me also preface this by saying that at first I wasn’t going to be able to give this device a fair revue because my standards were so high and it’d been built up to be the greatest and most anticipated device of all time by PlayStation fanatics – everything changed the day I got to grab my first hands-on with the device personally and I was able to kick the face of my opponent with Bruce Lee. Several weeks and a slew of Xperia PLAY-specific reviews in, I’m fully for the furtherance of the career of whoever or whatever was responsible for the design of this platform, be it human, robot, or cross-breed PlayStation monster.

Sony Ericsson has announced a pair of new feature-phones, though while the Mix Walkman and txt pro may look like they're running Android, in fact they've just borrowed the skin from the XPERIA mini. Both the QWERTY-toting txt pro and the all-touch Mix Walkman get 3-inch 400 x 240 displays and 3.2-megapixel cameras, FM radios, quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE (though no 3G) and a microSD card slot.

Sony has admitted that the Sony Ericsson Canadian eshop has been hacked, the latest in a growing number of embarrassing security lapses for the company. The personal data of around 2,000 people has been stolen, though Sony insists that passwords were encrypted and credit card information was not among the loot.
