Sony PSP plans could include touchscreen

Sony's PSP Go failed to ignite the mobile gaming market in the way that the company hoped it might, but that hasn't stopped Sony engineers and designers from pushing ahead with another PSP successor. According to Sony's gaming chief, Kazuo Hirai, the company has been looking to the next-gen handheld "since the day" the PlayStation was released, and might use both a touchscreen and traditional physical gaming controls. Meanwhile, Hirai believes there's still a segment of gamers for whom the popular - and cheap - iOS, Android and other mobile games aren't sufficient.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play tipped as PlayStation phone as SE go on domain spree

The discovery of a number of "xperiaplay" domain registrations by a Swedish PR company that counts Sony Ericsson among its clients has led to suggestions that the upcoming PlayStation Android smartphone will launch as the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play. The gaming handset has been spotted in the wild on numerous occasions, complete with PlayStation-style control pad buttons, but so far its branding has been unclear. The hunt for the domains was prompted by PocketNow's discovery of an "XPERIA PLAY" trademark filing.

Sony Ericsson pico-projection phone patent app hides its own display screen

A new Sony Ericsson patent application suggests the company is looking at the feasibility of a smartphone or MID-style device with not only an integrated pico-projector, but the screen onto which it displays as well. The submission, titled "Mobile Communication Device with Built-In Projecting Screen", describes a mobile device with a regularly-sized screen together with a pull-out projection screen onto which the pico would create a larger picture.

An inside source at Sony Ericsson has supposedly confirmed that their PlayStation Phone will be released in March 2011, having made its official debut the month previous at Mobile World Congress 2011. According to ITProPortal, the Android-powered gaming smartphone will apparently be branded the PlayStation Phone, rather than - as had previously been suggested - falling under Sony Ericsson's XPERIA umbrella.

Sony Ericsson's PlayStation Phone looks another step closer to likelihood, with the discovery of what could be Sony-style gaming controls in the new Android 2.3 Gingerbread SDK. In among "android.view.KeyEvent" there are the following input keys: A, B, C, L1, L2, Mode, R1, R2, Select, Start, ThumbL, ThumbR, X, Y, and Z, which would certainly fit in with PlayStation controller nomenclature.

So there's this guy, and he's on the internet. He has a Playstation phone, and he runs it in front of a camera, but he's got no games for it! You know what that means? It either means he really doesn't like games or they just don't really have any ready to even show this guy who seems to be the only person in the world to have this early version of the "Zeus Z1." What you CAN see is that it's running a version of Android which very much appears to be version 2.3 Gingerbread (it even says Gingerbread on the app version, wowie), and there IS definitely a Playstation icon.
