Sony Ericsson dates XPERIA X10 Gingebread update, teases with video demo

Sony Ericsson has confirmed that the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the XPERIA X10 is scheduled to arrive in early August, though not everybody with the handset will get the new ROM. Those with generic trade models - i.e. sold unlocked and SIM-free - will get the update first (you can see Sony Ericsson's demo of Gingerbread on the X10 after the cut), but only select operator-supplied X10 variants will get it after that.

Leaked Sony Ericsson ANZU is 4.3-inch replacement to XPERIA X10? [Updated]

Let's not get ahead of ourselves here, but according to the latest Android rumors you may just be looking at Sony Ericsson's successor the XPERIA X10, currently codenamed ANZU. XperiaX10Blog's source reckons the smartphone has a 4.3-inch display along with an HDMI output, and that Sony Ericsson is aiming to release the ANZU in Q1 of 2011.

Android 2.1 for Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 series to make Halloween debut

It's taken them a long, long time, but Sony Ericsson is finally ready to push out the Android 2.1 Eclair update for the XPERIA X10, X10 mini and X10 mini pro.  According to the company's official blog, the Nordic countries will get Eclair first, with the first OTA notifications going out in the evening on Sunday, October 31.  Availability will spread throughout November 2010, so not everybody will get it at the same time.

Bile, vitriol and general frustration in the comments over at the official Sony Ericsson blog this morning, as the company confesses its promised Android 2.1 update for the XPERIA X10, X10 mini and X10 mini pro will no longer be released sometime this month.  Instead, the much-promised upgrade will begin rolling out at the end of October, though it could take a few weeks after that before users actually see it hit their handset.

Sony Style's teaser page has hatched into the launch of the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10, with the Android smartphone set to hit AT&T's airwaves from Sunday, August 15th.  Priced at $129.99 with a new, two-year AT&T plan, though not currently available to order online, the smartphone runs Android 1.6 with a 4-inch WVGA touchscreen, Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and an 8.1-megapixel camera with LED flash.

XPERIA X10 rooted with custom hardware

The first step in providing a public root for the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 has been achieved, with xda-developers member jerpelea managing to break open the Android smartphone and load up custom ROMs.  The drawback at present is that the hack requires SETool, which runs on its own custom hardware rather than being a cross-platform software tool; at present, only those with access to that hardware can actually modify their X10.
