We all love a sandwich, but how often does your sandwich light up from power it has collected itself?  If you're chowing down on a prototype from the Florida Energy Systems Consortium then it might just do that (though probably not tasting particularly good in the process): they're working on the idea of layered OLED and solar-cell panels, which would capture sunlight during the day and recharge a back battery plane, before lighting up at night.

Sometimes a gadget comes along that is so pretty that, when you realise it has a spec-sheet more barren than the Sahara, you can’t help but tear at your chest and roar.  LG’s GD510 “Pop” isn’t quite so bad as all that, but it’s a handsome 3-inch touchscreen phone – the most compact ever with such a screen-size, they say – with a brushed aluminum body that throws out most of the things we take for granted in today’s handsets.  WiFi we can live without, but a handset lacking 3G?  For shame!

And by everyone, we mean it. Considering the way the  government is cracking down on cell phone usage while driving, and especially texting, handsfree devices need to improve so that people will want to use them. And while many people might not want to wear those earpieces, or have their phone’s speakerphone on all the time, Scosche has the answer for you: a Bluetooth speakerphone that attaches to your windshield, so that the solar panel on the back can keep your battery fully charged all day long.

If you’re going to ask someone to design a bike, you may as well make it an Olympic medal winner.  Chris Boardman has put pen to paper and come up with this concept for his Boardman Bikes brand, an “intelligent” cycle that not only keeps track of your calorie count but has fingerprint recognition for a biometric lock, integrated mediaplayer and a solar-powered motor for giving you a push when faced with hills.

Take one Nintendo DS, a handful of solar panels, some spare time and this Instructable, and you could end up with this: a solar-powered DS that you never have to plug into the mains again.  By strapping four 60 x 60mm panels – each capable of a maximum 3 volts at 40 ma power output – to the top and bottom outside casings of the DS, you can actually create a trickle-charger potent enough to avoid ever needing mains power.
