Slingbox announces new 350 and 500 models

In what was a seemingly strange move, two new Slingbox models - the 350 and 500 - appeared earlier this month on Best Buy shelves with nary a peep of announcement. This sudden appearance of new models left us scratching our heads, but stranger things have happened. Fast forward one week, and Slingbox has officially announced the release of the two models. Broadcom signs Myriad and Sling deals for Android, streaming TV everywhere

The folks at Broadcom have dropped a couple of silent bombs this week in announcements of deals with both SlingBox's EchoStar and with Myriad for their Alien Vue solution, these deals resulting ultimately in two things: a chip made by Myriad that allows for TV Everywhere NOT just limited to wi-fi in your own home and Android apps on your TV set-top box! With their deal with Sling, they're set to create their upcoming BCM7425 SoC (or chip, if you prefer) with embedded Sling place-shifting technology. SlingPlayer for Logitech Revue Google TV STB officially released

Sling has released SlingPlayer for the Logitech Revue, allowing all owners of the Google TV set-top box to access its media streaming app and placeshift content locally or remotely. Announced back in July - and opened up for a closed beta at the same time - the app requires a Slingbox SOLO or Slingbox PRO-HD as well as a minimum of a 600 Kbps connection if you're content with standard definition video. SlingPlayer for Boxee Box revealed

Sling has launched a new streaming app, SlingPlayer for Boxee Box, pulling in content place-shifted from your Slingbox directly to the compact STB. As with the existing SlingPlayer apps for mobile devices and tablets, along with the SlingPlayer for Facebook app released last week, the new option allows for remote control of an SD or HD video source - including setting and playing back DVR recordings - as well as streaming live TV. SlingPlayer for Google TV beta opens [Video]

Sling has thrown open its beta for SlingPlayer for Google TV, allowing those with one of Google's STBs - like the Logitech Revue - to stream content from their Slingbox Solo or Slingbox PRO-HD. Dubbed "SlingPlayer for Connected Devices" the new system bypasses a software upgrade or app, and instead works as a Flash-based sit specifically coded for the Google TV platform. Verizon to pair 4G LTE smartphones with Slingbox in new offer

Sling Media and Verizon have announced a deal in which LTE mobile broadband subscribers can get a Slingbox media streamer and a copy of SlingPlayer bundled in with their monthly subscription. The app will be provided for select Verizon 4G smartphones, which currently means one or more of Samsung's, HTC's, the 4G Galaxy Tab or Motorola's. Read The Full Story

Sling Media has released the new SlingPlayer Mobile for iPad [iTunes link] app, offering full-screen control and viewing of streamed video from your Slingbox. SlingPlayer gets Windows Phone 7 video demo

We've known SlingPlayer for Windows Phone 7 was coming since March, but now a video demo of the app in action has been released.  TheMisterSling's clip shows the app running on an LG handset, complete with the usual on-screen remote control functionality for managing your streaming DVR, STB or other source. Slingbox PRO-HD Freeview Review

Sling Media’s Slingbox PRO-HD for the European market has been a long time coming, two years in fact, though the streaming media market has largely left its niche alone in the meantime.  As with the US model, the PRO-HD promises to take your SD and HD video sources – cable TV box, DVR, DVD player or even CCTV hardware – and squirt it over the internet; however, this new version also includes a Freeview tuner to add free-to-air digital TV to that list.  Check out the full SlashGear review after the cut.

SlingPlayer Mobile for Android hands-on [Video]

Sling Media have released a brief demo of their new SlingPlayer Android client, but we fancied a better play and so managed to grab a copy of the beta for ourselves.  Loaded up on a Nexus One, the control process was just as straightforward on the Google phone’s 3.7-inch display as it looks on the EVO 4G’s 4.3-inch screen; picture quality is decent, and while there are a lot of on-screen controls – since they’re basically recreating your full set-top box remote in the mobile client – after a little use it’s all reasonably familiar.  More first impressions – and a demo video – after the cut.
