This past week brought more patent litigation drama along with new rumors for the exciting gadgets to come in the next few months. Sales of Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 have been blocked in Europe after Apple won a preliminary injunction on the tablet. Apple became the world's largest company briefly when its market valuation surpassed that of Exxon Mobile. Windows Phone Mango is now rumored for a September 1 launch with Nokia confirming closure of its US Symbian and feature phone operations. SlashGear Weekly Roundup Video – July 31, 2011

This past week seems to be all about what's to happen this coming August and September, which look to be eventful months. Samsung began teasing its Galaxy S II for its US debut in August, while a white version was announced for the UK around the same time. Motorola confirmed that its Droid Bionic will launch in September and also arriving then is its 4G LTE upgrade for Motorola XOOM 3G customers. Battle of the social networks kicked off this week with Facebook announcing group chat support, a new design, and a video calling feature developed in partnership with Skype. However, the Google+ Hangouts group video chat feature still has Facebook beat although we won't know how real adoption of Google's social platform will be until it opens to the public sometime around July 31st. New hope for the Nokia and Microsoft partnership came this week with the unveiling of the N9 MeeGo handset and the Windows Phone Mango version of it dubbed the "Sea Ray." The N950 sports a similar styling but will have a larger screen, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, and be deemed a developer-only device. All in all, a positive week in developments for Nokia, but not so much for RIM. The BlackBerry maker began layoffs this week and further cut back sales estimates of the PlayBook tablet.

Microsoft's new Windows 8 tablet UI got previewed this past week at the D9 Conference. The new OS was later shown running on some actual ARM-powered tablet prototypes at Computex. The major trade show in Taipei also revealed the ASUS Padfone to much fanfare and gimmickry. Perhaps the two biggest topics of the week, the Google Wallet announcement and Microsoft's Windows Phone 7.1 Mango unveiling, brought exciting new developments for the two mobile platforms. More speculation continued on what Apple has planned for next month's WWDC, where the company is expected to unveil the new iOS 5, OS X Lion, and possibly the iCloud---iTunes cloud music service. In anticipation, Amazon's been competing even more aggressively to campaign for its Cloud Drive and Cloud Player services. Gaming got some extra attention this week with speculation about the next-gen Nintendo Wii, a unique offer on the Xbox 360, and restoration issues for the PlayStation network. Android's WiFi security problem gets a fix, and the latest 3.1 Honeycomb update will be heading to the Asus Eee Pad Transformer and the Acer Iconia Tab A500 in June. Amazon is possibly ramping up a family of Android tablets, with the first two codenamed 'Coyote' and 'Hollywood' to hit the market before end of the year. Apple will be celebrating its 10th retail anniversary with a possible revamp dubbed Apple Store 2.0.
