Start the day as you mean to go on: with a bargain. If you’ve been thinking of picking up a Palm Pre, but have shied away even from the recently reduced price of $149.99 on Sprint, then how does a sub-$100 Pre strike you?

Start the day as you mean to go on: with a bargain. If you’ve been thinking of picking up a Palm Pre, but have shied away even from the recently reduced price of $149.99 on Sprint, then how does a sub-$100 Pre strike you?

It doesn’t exactly hold up to their last laptop deal – which saw a Compaq discounted to $298 – but if you fancy a 17-inch display and another big-brand name then Walmart’s latest notebook promotion may tick your boxes. Up for $348 is the Toshiba Satellite L355-S7915, a 2.2GHz Celeron 900 machine with 1,440 x 900 display, 3GB of RAM and a 250GB 5,400rpm hard-drive.

We’ve made no bones about how impressed we are with the MiFi “intelligent mobile hotspot” from Novatel Wireless, having played with both Verizon and Sprint’s CDMA models. If you’ve been tempted by a 3G hotspot of your own, but been put off by the $300 sticker price, then head over to Amazon where both the Verizon and Sprint models are down to just one cent with a new service plan.

We’ve seen the Palm Pre accidentally advertised for $99.99 before, but if you’d like a legitimate $99.99 deal then head over to LetsTalk. The company is offering the Palm smartphone for $99 after a combination of mail-in and instant discounts, though you’ll seemingly need to order before the end of today if you want to be eligible.
The Pre in question is new (rather than refurbished) and requires a two-year agreement with Sprint, but that’s no different to what the carrier themselves (or Amazon) expect of you.
If you’re looking for mobile email access and your budget counts out any of the usual smartphone suspects, you could do worse than head over to Amazon. They’re currently listing the Peek mobile emailer at $19.99, a 60-percent saving on the regular price.

Back when it launched, the Linksys DMA-2200 Wireless Media Extender retailed for a cool $350. Capable of streaming content from your Windows Media Center in one room, to your big-screen HDTV in another, the DMA-2200 faired reasonably in reviews, hindered by its big sticker price. Now, though, Newegg are listing the DMA-2200 for just $94.99 with free shipping, at which point it becomes a very tempting offer indeed.

Somehow putting up with the BlackBerry Storm’s touchscreen foibles and periodic leaked firmware seems a whole lot more manageable when you’ve only paid $99.99 for it upfront. Amazon US currently have RIM’s first touchscreen smartphone listed for just $99.99, with no pesky rebate involved.

Ultraportables with integrated optical drives are rare beasts – the netbook world only has one, for instance – and they usually carry a pretty high price premium. That was certainly the case when the VYE S41A first arrived, complete with its convertible 7-inch touchscreen, DVD burner and 800MHz Intel A110 processor: you were looking at around $1,500 when it first launched. Now, Expansys UK have it listed for just £449.99 ($661).

Peek are really pushing their email messenger lately, with seemingly a promotion for just about every main event. Next up in the calendar is Valentine’s Day, and in keeping with the loving spirit there’s a two-for-one deal through Amazon.

Surprise! More HDTV deals in the week of Super Bowl. If the Sony’s HDTV and Blu-ray bundle deal is too steep for your wallet; Walmart has announced its Super Bowl/HDTV deals with much affordable units, plus a $100 gift certificate to stock up the rest of the party staples.
Walmart deals include a reduce price 32-inch Samsung LCD HDTV at $498 and a 46-inch Sony LCD at $1,298, and both unit come with an additional $100 store gift card. It’s said to have discounted at the same level of Black-Friday deals, and not counting the extra $100. I don’t know if you can apply the gift discount on the purchased set, but the extra $100 should be plenty to stock up beers and chips for the big game.
According to the report, the promotion went into effect yesterday; presuming in store only, as there aren’t any online promotes to be founded, and we do not have technical details on the discounted sets.
