There is a new tool available called SiriProxy that was created to control a thermostat, and has also been adapted to start cars and control other apps. A new web discovery engine is set to debut that sprang form that same program that sired Siri. The web discovery engine is called Trapit. Developers crack Siri open to work on any device

Developers at Applidium claim that they have cracked open Apple's Siri intelligent voice-controlled assistant feature to work on any device. Siri is restricted to the iPhone 4S, but has been hacked to work to some degree on the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS. Sony “four screen” revolution to preempt Apple Siri TV

Sony is working on its own revolution in the TV market, with engineers rushing to develop the company’s “four screen” strategy before Apple can release its own television set. “There’s a tremendous amount of R&D going into a different kind of TV set” CEO Howard Stringer told the WSJ, referring to the “four screen” potential once Sony controls not only its own TV, computer and tablet businesses, but Sony Ericsson after buying out its partner.

Apple tries to silence Siri’s voice

One of the original voice actors Apple used for its Siri service has spoken of his surprise at hearing of his involvement, only discovering he was the UK voice default when he saw an Apple advert on TV. Although Jon Briggs was asked by Apple not to discuss Siri, the voice actor agreed to talk text-to-speech with UK paper The Telegraph as he isn't under contract with the Cupertino firm; his recordings, performed 5-6 years ago, were done for Scansoft, a company that later merged with Siri-powering Nuance. iPhone 4S’ proximity sensor is designed for Siri

Thanks to the iPhone 4S teardown at iFixit, there may now be an explanation for why Apple restricts the Siri intelligent assistant feature to the iPhone 4S. Apparently, it is indeed a hardware related issue, or at least partly, as the iPhone 4S uses a new infrared LED proximity sensor specifically designed to work with Siri. Read The Full Story

Apple has reportedly confirmed to developers that it has "no plans" to bring Siri, the voice-controlled personal assistant service available on the iPhone 4S, to any older device. Siri a “competitive threat” says Google in antitrust downplay

Apple’s Siri voice control system is a “significant development” and a “competitive threat” Google chairman Eric Schmidt has admitted, though the concession to the iPhone 4S feature may be more a strategic one than true admiration. Schmidt made the comments during a Senate Judiciary Antitrust Subcommittee, questioned around Google’s competitiveness and whether it was so large as to be subject to antitrust measures; the former CEO also claimed that Google is not, in fact, dominant in search, praised Microsoft’s Bing, PCMag reports, and repeated denials that the company prioritizes its own products in search results.
