Samsung demands Apple’s Galaxy Nexus ban be frozen

Samsung has appealed against the preliminary injunction blocking US Galaxy Nexus sales, arguing Apple cannot prove that iPhone market share is legitimately threatened by the Android phone. Apple secured the early injunction late last week, convincing a US judge that the Galaxy Nexus is likely to be found infringing on at least one of four patents the Cupertino company holds. However, Samsung insists that Apple's case fails to prove that the potential loss of market share caused by the third-gen Google phone is as "substantial" as the Federal Circuit's requirements.

HTC looks to be working on its own version of Apple's Siri intelligent voice assistant app. The Taiwanese manufacturer posted a teaser image today revealing both an odd sense of humor and a potential Siri rival. This week it appears that someone at the Wall Street Journal has head from a reliable source that Google's own Siri competitor - known internally as codename Majel - has had its development plans accelerated. What this could mean for you, the reader, is that we'll see said competitor at the next big Google event, that being the developer event known as Google I/O coming up on the 27th of June. For those of you that don't know, the codename for this project is a reference to Majel Barrett, also known Nurse Christine Chapel in the original Star Trek television series and - much more importantly - the voice of the ship's computer as well.

iOS 6 signals Apple legacy device drop-off

For those of you that did not know, iOS 6 was revealed this week at Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference 2012, and with it came news that several older model mobile devices, including the original iPad, would no longer be getting updates past version 5. Included in the update to Apple's latest mobile operating system are the iPhone 3GS, 4, and 4S, iPod touch models older than the 4th generation, and the iPad 2 and 3. Everything older than this will more than likely have service updates if bugs arise in the future with iOS 5, but they will not be traveling up unto the 6th iteration of Apple's mobile environment.

Apple iOS 6 Beta download links go live

For those of you out there with a taste for Beta-testing and a heart for developing, Apple has released the first wide-release version of iOS 6 to the public. This version is available to anyone with an Apple developer account and is available now at Apple's developer site, but will not be ready for prime-time for at least a few more weeks. This version of Apple's mobile operating system will work on most Apple mobile products but will not function on the oldest versions of the iPod touch or the original iPad.

Amongst the many wild and rapid-fire announcements made by Apple today at WWDC 2012 came not only news that iOS 6 was coming to most legacy mobile devices, but that Siri was coming to The New iPad as well. This is the iPad 3rd generation aka the iPad 3 and the iPad with Retina display, and with the upgrade to iOS 6 we'll see Siri as well. This upgrade will come to both 4G LTE models of the tablet as well as wi-fi models.
