Apple TV-enabled iMac tipped for 2012 television attack

Apple could ease itself into the TV market by integrating Apple TV and iCloud functionality into an iMac-style all-in-one, one analyst has suggested, using a hybrid TV/computer in 2012 as a bridging step before its true Apple Televisions go on sale. The existing 27-inch iMac is a likely launch point, Wedge Partners analyst Brian Blair wrote in a note this week, with the suggestion that "Apple's redesign of the iMac in the first half of 2012 will likely usher in some … TV capability into the iMac offering first," AllThingsD reports. Concerns around an unofficial Siri port for the iPhone 4 and iPod touch have escalated, with some users reporting device instability, their camera no longer functioning and other issues, in addition to concerns around data privacy. The H1Siri hack came to light earlier this week, offering an unofficial way to access Apple's Siri virtual personal assistant tech on older devices; that port, iPhone modder Grant "chpwn" Paul points out, illegally uses copyrighted binaries extracted from the iPhone 4S. Xbox TV puts Microsoft ahead of Apple and Google

Gaming has long been Microsoft’s wildcard: while the company struggles to find its feet with Windows Phone, and faces a difficult tablet market when its Windows 8 slates finally appear, the Xbox 360 continues to sell strongly. Apple explains Siri abortion ignorance

Apple has denied intentionally omitting women's health services and abortion clinics from its iPhone 4S Siri virtual assistant, highlighting instead the system's beta status. Controversy around the voice-controlled system - one of the key selling points of the latest iPhone - had flared when the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) pointed out reports that it would not locate abortion clinics even when such facilities were nearby. iOS 5.1 released early for developers

Apple has released the first developer beta for iOS 5.1, making it the first real update since iOS 5 was released last month. A minor update, 5.0.1, was released earlier this month with the goal of addressing user's poor battery performance. There is much speculation that 5.1 will include updates to Siri, the iPhone 4S voice assistant, that will let users give instructions like turning on off settings like Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Siri controls Spotify in new iPhone 4S mod

The Siri hacks continue, with Apple's voice control system now capable - unofficially at least - of managing Spotify on your desktop.
