46-megapixel Sigma DP3 Merrill Compact Camera to launch in March

Camera manufacturer Sigma has announced that it will be launching a new compact digital camera in March called the DP3 Merrill Compact digital camera. The street price for the camera will be $999 and it will have a very impressive resolution of 46-megapixels. The camera uses a 50 mm f2.8 lens is equivalent to 75 mm on a 35mm SLR camera. Sigma unveils four new Art lenses

Sigma has unveiled a handful of new lenses that will join the company's current lineup of Art lenses, which are designed to be high-quality alternatives of the competition, like Canon and Nikon lenses, but with a slightly lower cost than you would normally see with these companies. The four new lenses that Sigma announce are a 30mm f/1.4 DC HSM, 60mm f/2.8 DN, 30mm f/2.8 DN, and a 19mm f/2.8 DN. Read The Full Story

Sigma ultra-thin set-top box platform hangs on your AC outlet

We have already talked about the Google purchase of SageTV that was announced over the weekend. Something interesting in the purchase that we have been thinking about is the fact that SageTV has just finished porting its software over to the Sigma reference design hardware. The speculation is that the ability to operate on the Sigma reference platform may be the driving force behind Google gobbling up SageTV to use the company's middle-ware expertise to build up a new version of the failing Google TV hardware that isn't doing well at all on the market today. Sigma to Release DP2x Compact Camera

Sigma announced its newest DP2 series camera, the Sigma DP2x compact camera. The DP2x uses and Analogue Front End (AFE), and offers improved autofocus speed, according to Sigma. The DP2x sensor, at 20.7mm x 13.8mm, is approximately seven to 12 times larger than sensors used in most other compact digital cameras. Read The Full Story

Sigma SD1 flagship DSLR breaks cover

Sigma has launched a new DSLR camera and the thing is a beast. It has a 46MP 24 x 16mm APS-C sensor and a magnesium alloy body. The DSLR is also weather resistant and has sealed o-ring connections. Sigma SD15 DSLR finally goes on sale [Video]

It's taken them long enough, but Sigma has finally put their SD15 on sale in the US.  First unveiled all the way back in September 2008, the $989 DSLR body uses a 14-megapixel Foveon X3 direct image sensor, which uses three layers to capture RGB pixels individually.  Unsurprisingly, Sigma USA's general manager Mark Amir-Hamzeh reckons the lengthy maturation time for the DSLR was well-founded: "It's been long-awaited, for sure, but it's worth the wait" he says. Sigma SD15 DSLR finally launching this month

It's been a long time since we first saw the Sigma SD15 - all the way back in September 2008, in fact - and the DSLR has only just managed to get a price tag and release date.  According to Sigma, the SD15's specs are little changed to what we first saw all those months ago, with a 14-megapixel Foveon X3 direct image sensor consisting of three 4.7-megapixel layers that individually capture red, green or blue light. Android 1080p set-top box prototype gets demo

It might not mean much to the Android smartphone lurking in your pocket (or that you'd like to have there), but MIPS and Sigma Designs have been demonstrating an Android-based set-top box capable of 1080p high-definition video.  The STB prototype is being positioned as "a major milestone toward the creation of a reference platform" for Android-powered home entertainment devices, with the two companies adding support for Sigma's hardware graphics acceleration and decoding. Sigma DP2 camera now available for pre-order

We got our first look at the Sigma DP2 camera back in September, but now it looks like the digital point and shoot device is available for pre-order on Amazon.com. Apple stole headlines this week with a surprise update just seven days after refreshing their Mac line.  The new 4GB iPod shuffle is even smaller than the original, using an in-line remote and VoiceOver spoken tracknames to get around the absence of a display.  Apple also released iTunes 8.1, while rumors of a multitouch 10-inch netbook flourished as first Chinese then US press picked up on the capacitive panel trail.
