This week the folks at WildTangent have revealed that they’ve worked with Sony Mobile Communications to release their game rental service for Xperia smartphones such as the Sony Xperia Z, this continuing their team-up into the future. Back in September of 2011, WildTangent high-fived Sony and began to partner with them in both desktop and mobile products. You’ll find WildTangent pre-installed on VAIO PCs as well as Sony Tablets S and P in Europe already – and the fun continues!

According to WildTangent, the Sony Xperia X will lead the charge with the Xperia smartphone universe, the team promoting their service with a handful of free WildCoins if they register WildTangent on their Xperia device. WildCoins are used by WildTangent members to rent and purchase games for their device. In addition to being able to rent a game for a limited period of time, users are able to purchase that app outright – and when they do so, any money spent on rental is applied to the purchase automatically.

Many games are are available for free as well, they being subsidized – to so speak – by the advertisements they carry in-game. The titles Great Little War Game and Babel Rising 3D are just two of the next-generation of devices coming on quick, and completely for free. You’ll also find the now-classic Fruit Ninja and ultra-powerful third-person shooter game SHADOWGUN there as well.

Have a peek at the Wild Tangent universe for yourself if you’ve got an Xperia device, and consider having a tap with it even if you don’t – it’s growing more universal by the day! Also be sure to have a look at the rest of our Mobile World Congress 2013 coverage through the MWC 2013 tag portal – more up to the minute news blasts and hands-on action than you can handle!

This week we’ve gotten to speak with the folks behind the cloud-based personal assistant project known as Indigo, taking the form of an app for both Windows Phone and Android. What we’re seeing here is the developers at Artificial Solutions creating a natural language service that you’ll not easily get away with speaking about without mentioning Apple’s Siri. The biggest difference is in the genes: unlike the iOS-based Siri, Indigo is coming to every platform the developers wish it to – iOS included (though later this year instead of immediately).

This app is what the company calls its first “highly intelligent personal assistant app”, and it works quite similarly to the ever-growing family of natural language-toting apps across the gamut. This means you’re working with the ability to ask questions or tell it to do tasks for you in several different ways, and it’ll remember your preferences while you do it. This app is fully prepared to work with developers from around the appsphere as well, with full SDK availability coming up immediately if not soon for you and yours – that means you’ll be able to call up any app that decides to integrate Ingego support.

Your preferences are also connected to an online repository of sorts, able to remember what you like and what you’ve told it to do across multiple devices. There’s both a browser-based interface and an app interface, both of them working to bring you ease in task-doing from your mobile device – or your desktop computer, if you like.

Down the line, this app – and apps created for Indigo with Artificial Solutions’ software developer kit – will be able to do anything from creating a series of calendar events to controlling their television schedule. Hook it up with the internet browser on your refrigerator in the future – the sky’s the limit!

Developers interested in checking out Indigo should hit up hello-indigo.com and have a peek – meanwhile you non-developer users out there should head there as well and have a click around. Natural language commands will be yours – sooner than later! Then of course you’ll also want to check out the rest of the action we’ve collected and pushed earlier this week and into the future at Mobile World Congress 2013 in our MWC 2013 portal!

Your eyes may be the window to your soul, but they’re also another potential source of biometric security, and that’s something EyeVerify wants to see baked into smartphones and laptops. Relying on the fact that the pattern of veins in each person’s eyes is unique – no matter if you’re a twin or even if you’ve been somehow cloned – the EyeVerify system creates a digital fingerprint from a snapshot, and then uses that to verify your identity in future.

The system requires a 2-megapixel camera or above to get a good enough shot of the eye, which EyeVerify tells us has been the minor hitch in its plans until recently: we’re only just starting to see phones with suitably high resolution front-facing cameras arrive on the market. It will work with the rear camera, but then you’re reliant on the audio prompts to make sure you’re lining things up properly.

The learning process takes a half minute or so, building up a map of the veins around one or both eyes, and then subsequent identification routines take a few seconds to verify. It’ll work if you’re wearing glasses, too.

EyeVerify is pushing its technology to manufacturers and enterprise customers, rather than individual users, hoping to get the vein security system preloaded on hardware instead of offering it on a per-device download basis. It’s also counting on the recent spate of hacking attempts to “encourage” systems managers to demand more comprehensive security systems.

Given how existing biometrics system, such as Google’s face-recognition on Android, has been more gimmick than actual security, EyeVerify may have an uphill battle proving its option is truly secure. To help it do that, a closed beta will kick off later this year, though there’s no telling when exactly we’ll see EyeVerify show up on actual devices.

This week we got the opportunity to take a peek at the newest Moen water distribution system for your sink, the MotionSense Touch-Free faucet. Moen’s own Maribeth Kwasniewski showed this system off with us at ShowStoppers during CES 2013, revealing the multiple ways you’re able to activate it when you get it for yourself in the very near future. The first of these is the Wave Sensor – that black dot at the top of the neck of the faucet, able to toggle the water’s flow when you move your hand over or across it.

What this wave sensor being able to “toggle” means here is that if you wave your hand over the faucet once, the water turns on, if you wave your hand over it again, the water turns off. Whichever state the water flow is in when you wave your hand over it, it’ll be the opposite when you’ve waved. If you wave once to turn the water off and walk away, the water will automatically shut off in 2 minutes.

Next is the Ready Sensor, this feature turning the water flow on when you place your hands under the faucet. This works like the sensor you’ll see it massive amounts of bathrooms in restaurants, hotels, and everywhere in between right this minute. The third way to work with this faucet is with its one handle – pull the handle out and it turns on, pull back or push forward and the water becomes hot or cold.

As for the temperature of the water when you use one of the sensors: that’s controlled by a control box that you set (under the deck, aka under your countertop) when you first install the faucet. You can set and re-set this controlled temperature but can also control the temperature above the deck with the handle as described above. This system sticks to the controlled temperature you’ve set whenever you initiate the flow of water with one of the two sensors.

This faucet starts at $399 USD and is available right this minute from a variety of retailers and online (if you know where to look). Have a peek at the rest of our CES 2013 coverage in our giant CES hub or check just the ShowStoppers hands-on posts in our ShowStoppers 2013 tag portal – it’s all good!

We’ve been given another opportunity to get right in deep with Lenovo’s newest convertible tablet running full Windows 8: the ThinkPad Helix, and this time we’re making a point of checking out not just the ripping and the flipping, but the spoiler on the back and the precision ruined craftsmanship as well. As you may well know from our previous look at this machine, you’re able to open it up in its notebook form to use it as a full-function Windows 8 laptop, press the button on the lower left of the display, “rip” it out, use it as a tablet, and place it back in place the other way around – then you can push it back down flat and have a massive battery capacity as well.

One of the more interesting things we’ve learned in this new look at the machine is the fact that you get a couple of relatively hidden cooling fans under the hood in the back. Have a peek at this sequence of photos to see the spoiler (our term, not theirs) coming up as you life up the hood of this beast. Under that spoiler is a couple of fans that’ll keep this machine cool no matter what you’re processing or indulging in.

The Lenovo Helix is solid, made with the same level of attention to detail that the full ThinkPad line always is. When we took a few minutes to literally carry the device around for a while, we noticed it was relatively light and felt solid above all else. The connection between the tablet and the keyboard is strong and ready for everyday work and play action.

Have a peek at the photos and video above and below and make sure you tune in throughout the week to our CES portal for every bit of CES 2013. We’ll be getting much more hands-on and up to the minute updates as we see the best of the season appearing right here, live from Las Vegas.

These days, it seems that the art of taking down handwritten notes is dying. Why use a pen and paper when you’ve got a tablet or ultrabook in your bag that you can use to type things up instead? There is something to be said for handwritten notes, however – sometimes it’s much faster to write down something by hand, and during big shows like CES, taking along a pen and some paper ultimately cuts down on the amount of stuff you’re taking onto the show floor.

Of course, the environmentally-minded among us might be concerned with the amount of paper we use to take down these notes, but thankfully the folks at Improv Electronics have found the answer to that wasteful issue. Say hello to the Boogie Board Sync LCD eWriter, which is outfitted with a 9.7-inch pressure-sensitive LCD screen that lets you jot down notes on the fly and then share them in any number of ways. This isn’t the first Boogie Board eWriter we’ve seen, but it certainly is the largest of the bunch.

The Boogie Board Sync comes equipped with a micro SD slot, so if you’d like to stash your notes on a card and move them to your other devices later, you can certainly do that. There’s also a micro USB port for wired transfer, but if you’re a fan of going wireless, this baby also comes with support for Bluetooth. Using that Bluetooth functionality, you can send your finished note to any other Bluetooth-supported device, whether that’s a computer, smartphone, or tablet. You can also sync your Boogie Board with a second screen using Bluetooth, meaning that what you write down on the eWriter shows up on your second screen (perfect for presentations and the like). Fancy saving your note and uploading it to Evernote to refer back to later? You can do that too.

The models we saw during ShowStoppers certainly look nice, but at the moment, they’re only in the prototype stage. Though they do feel good in the hand at the present moment, we’re expecting a few things to change as we move toward the final product, which is scheduled to be released in time for 2013′s holiday season. Hopefully we’ll get to spend a bit more time with the Boogie Board Sync soon, but for now, have a look at our CES portal for much more from the show.

This week we got the opportunity to have a chat with Sue Choe of Spigen SGP at ShowStoppers during CES 2013, and she brought with her a backpack full of goodies for us to look at – the backpack itself being one of the best! This is the Spigen SGP New-Coated Backpack made specifically for the multi-device citizen amongst us, working with so many pockets inside that you’ll never be able to fill them all up! And it’s rather fashionable, too.

This backpack has 11 main storage spaces made for your laptop, tablet, mouse, chargers, pencils and pens, smartphone, and whatever else you’ve got that you simply must bring with you on a regular basis. The inside is lined with some extremely soft synthetic fur in a couple of the most important places, keeping your most precious high-quality devices scratch-free no matter how many times you push them in or pull them out.

As you’ll see Sue demonstrate, this backpack looks deceptively simple in its outward appearance. You’ve got several color choices including Black, Orange Brown, Gray, Khaki (green), and a lovely shade of Navy blue, each of them with their own complimenting accent colors. The pack has padding galore on the back so you’ll be comfortable all day long as well as padding underneath so you can set your back down on the ground without worrying you’ll be smashing your devices.

Have a peek at the hands-on photos and video we’ve got here and be sure to check this bag out in the near future up on Spigen SGP’s own online store. You’ll be able to pick this back up for $99.99 USD immediately if not soon for you and yours. Also be sure to check the rest of our Showstoppers 2013 coverage and our massive CES portal, too!

The past few days we’ve seen countless little Bluetooth speakers, JAMBOX look alikes, and various speakers but the new SoundMatters Dash 7 packs a powerful punch for such a small speaker. First mentioned earlier this year their ultra portable Bluetooth speaker was on display here at CES 2013 for ShowStoppers so we snagged a few photos.

The speaker boasts pristine omnidirectional sound for such a small device. It’s also bundled with an angled stand for directional listening. The stands design mimics an Apple smart case too. It weighs just over 7 ounces so is extremely lightweight, and stands only 0.75-inches tall. Essentially, it’s designed to be nestled below your smartphone or tablet without restricting the view.

As you can see from our images below, the device is impressively sleek and we can confirm it’s rather light and ultra portable. Being able to lightly toss it nearly anywhere your smartphone or iPad goes without wasting much more space makes it quite versatile compared to some of their competition. The front face has the power button and led, along with a volume up/down dedicated button for ease of use. Around to the side is a 3.5mm audio out if you opt not to use Bluetooth, as well as a sub out feature if you really want to push out some bass.

Just like the Jawbone JAMBOX the Dash 7 uses a woofer/tweeter setup for sound, as well as a floating and moving battery to improve bass response. This makes the sound much better, louder, and crisper than you’d expect from such a tiny little speaker. Colors include red, white, black, and silver and the SoundMatters Dash 7 will hit the streets in February for around $219. Pretty big price, but that brings big performance in a small package.

SuperTooth launch their new Disco Twin pair of Bluetooth stereo speakers here at CES 2013, and today at ShowStoppers, we ended up getting our hands on the pair. The two speakers come together in the package, and they’re about the size of a tall glass of beer. It’s a stereo pair, so one speaker is the left channel and the other the right.

The company had originally promised that its previous Disco 2 speaker would have A2DP technology that would allow two speakers to work together to achieve stereo audio, but that didn’t happen. However, the company introduced the Disco Twin, which offers a pair of speakers with, not A2DP, but Bluetooth, with the left-sided speaker being the master speaker.

Each speaker provides 16 watts of RMS power combine for a total of 32 watts. The Disco Twin speakers feel surprisingly robust, and they have plenty of weight to them so that they won’t slide around easily on your desk or shelves. However, the cloth covering surrounding the speakers seem a bit fragile, and could easily tear if you’re not careful.

Either way, the speakers provides excellent volume, and even in the crowded and loud ballroom, the speakers were crisp and clear, and were plenty loud with even a few notches left to go before it hit level 10. The Disco Twin is priced at $199 and general availability is said to be starting in February.

Today at ShowStoppers during CES 2013, we’ve seen a lot of nifty gadgets, but one in particular is really impressive. The HoverCam Mini 5 is a pocketable scanning camera that plugs into your computer’s USB port, and it folds out into an overhead scanner. We ended up stopping by the company’s booth and getting a hands-on session with the new device.

The idea behind the Mini 5 is to essentially replace flatbed scanners, which are slow and obviously really large. The Mini 5 can fold up into the shape and size of a small candy bar, and unlike flatbed scanners, the Mini 5 instantly scans whatever is sitting below its camera, since it basically just takes a quick photo.

However, what’s most impressive about the Mini 5 is the detail that it can capture. Zooming in on a five dollar bill that they were using during the demo resulted in extreme detail of the print on the bill, including the fine details around the Lincoln Memorial and all the names of the states surrounding it.

You can also use the camera for live conferencing, and share what the camera is seeing with someone else. There’s also a motion detector that will automatically scan an item when it detects that movement has stopped. The Mini 5 will be available sometime in Q2 2013 at a price of $199.

We’ve seen our share of cool devices and ideas here at SlashGear, but this one might just rank up with the best of them. Today at ShowStoppers we got to take a look at a new technology called Tethercell, which incidentally went live on crowdfunding site Indiegogo earlier today. Tethercell has received a significant amount of funding in its first day, due to the simple fact that it allows you to control your battery powered devices from your smartphone.

Specifically speaking, Tethercell is a AA-battery adapter that will fit your device in place of one battery. The adapter itself is powered by a AAA-battery, and when it’s been inserted into your device, it lets you switch it on and off using an app installed on your smartphone. That’s pretty cool, but of course, there are plenty of other nifty features to go along with this technology.

Using Tethercell, you can track the amount of juice you have remaining. The app will let you know when your batteries are running low, and you can even set schedules for your devices. Is there one battery powered toy your kids love but you absolutely hate? Set a schedule to only let them play with it for an allotted amount of time, and enjoy peace for the rest of the day. The app connects to the adapter using Bluetooth 4.0, so this technology could one day be applied to any smartphone with Bluetooth 4.0 capabilities.

Tetherboard, the company behind this technology, says that Tethercell should begin shipping in late 2013 (provided everything goes well with its Indiegogo campaign). At first, Tethercell will only support AA-batteries and iOS, but the team promises that Android and 9-volt support will be following soon. This is just the beginning for Tethercell, so expect to hear more about it in the coming days and weeks. While you wait for more details, be sure to stop by our CES portal for all of the trade show news you could ever want.

This week we got the chance to not only get our hands on the TrackinPoing XactSystem precision-guided rifle system, we had a chat with the company’s President Jason Schauble as well. This system is able to turn your shooting into a digitally that’ll make you as precise a marksman as you can be. What we’re seeing here is a massive computer system mounted on top of a specialized firearm (in this case) complete with processing power and connectivity to your computers of all kinds – with this system you gain more information on your shooting accuracy than you’ll have ever dreamed possible.

With this device and system you’re able to connect to your rifle wirelessly and see what your scope sees. The system the folks at TrackingPoint are showing off here is a full-on system including ammunition, an iPad mini to connect with, and the rifle itself. Long-range marksmen are set to become much, much more advanced in the field.

The scope’s vision is shown in the gallery we’ve got below (and above) – see for yourself the system you’ll be using in the very near future. Also note that this system is able to guide the shooter with trigger weight and you’ve got systems like edge and blob detection in the unit for just about as advanced an experience as you can work with. You’ll be able to adjust for essentially all conditions – wind adjustment certainly, zoom, focus adjustment, and a series of modes are included as well.

Have a peek at our talk with the President and make sure you take a close look at the details above and below. This system is a wild bit of technology we’re not often anywhere near, so savor it as well if you’re all about firearms. Also be sure to take a peek at our CES portal as well as our ShowStoppers 2013 tag!

Wearable technology has been around for quite some time now — around 10 years to be exact, and a company called TEC (Technology Enabled Clothing) has been at the forefront of that movement. Today at ShowStoppers at CES 2013, the company unveiled the TEC Jacket 2.0, which is still in its concept phase and we ended up getting a look at it to see what it offers.

The TEC Jacket 2.0 is seriously decked out with pretty much whatever you can think of. If there’s something technology related that would be a good idea on a jacket, this new TEC Jacket probably has it. First off, it’s made of a very lightweight material — it’s essentially a windbreaker on steroids.

It’s got an built-in battery pack made of flat cells all around the bottom, an antenna to boost your data reception to get faster LTE speeds, a hood-mounted heads-up display, strategically-placed LEDs that keep you safe at night while on the road, and a magnetic zipper that ensures it never comes loose in the heat of the moment. And of course, there’s plenty of specialized pockets that stash away all of your precious gadgets.

There’s also speakers mounted inside the two ends of the collar, as well as microphone integrated into the collar as well. There’s even coils on the inside of the chest area that can regulate body temperature when it’s cold outside. The company says that the TEC Jacket 2.0 will be available in about two months.

For those who are always in need of a little light while camping, we have just the device for you. MpowerD has introduced a solar-powered lantern they’re calling Luci. Luci is “the little solar lantern with a big impact” and we’re actually really liking this neat idea. Essentially this is a fully waterproof and lightweight lantern that only needs the sun for a charge, and will last up to 12 hours.

Luci is unique and what the company calls “solar justice” and the reason behind that is many solar devices don’t seem to work as advertized, or always take forever to charge. MpowerD’s little lantern is only about 5-6 inches tall, and almost something you’d find floating in the pool during the summer months. For those granola types who are always out camping, you’ll want to check this out.

Luci puts out 1200 lumens of bright light using LEDs, and will last anywhere from 8-12 hours depending on charge. Using a few extremely durable and lightweight solar panels you’ll have a full 8-12 hours of light in just 4 hours charge time. Take it camping and charge her up at night, then use Luci to keep camp bright all night long. With a clear plastic round design the light emits in all directions, and Luci states she’ll brighten a 15 square foot area for hours.

“Just charge in the sun, open, and light up your world.”

MpowerD’s new little lantern that is powered by the sun has a few awesome things going for it. It’s extremely lightweight, durable, and completely collapsible to be under an inch tall and smaller than your hand. Then open it up and light up your world — as they say. For the low price of $15.99 Luci can be lighting up your campsite all summer long. It features low, high, and SOS emergency settings with the touch of a button. I’ll be taking this little lantern on a few mountain bike trips this summer. That is for sure.

Lifeproof’s iPhone 5 case has been on the market for around a month now, so by now, a number of people are keeping their shiny new iDevice safe behind the company’s handy little barrier. Here at ShowStoppers 2013, however, the company is revealing a number of new accessories for its iPhone 5 case, with the offerings ranging from strange to practical. For instance, how do you feel about making your iPhone 5 a little more buoyant?

With the Life Jacket accessory, your iPhone 5 will actually float. That has to be a handy little feature for those who take their device out on the water, though we do feel like we should point out that such an accessory sort of undercuts the waterproofing Lifeproof’s case brings to the table. In any case, with the big orange Life Jacket wrapped around your phone, you don’t have to worry about it sinking to the bottom of the lake or sea should your device go overboard.

Other accessories announced today include more standard fare, like an arm band, bike/bar mount, car mount, and belt clip. These are all relatively self-explanatory, with the arm band giving you a way to run or jog with your encased iPhone 5. The bike mount naturally allows you attach your iPhone 5 to your bike, though Lifeproof’s representatives also suggested that new mothers could use it to attach their phones to a baby’s stroller. Finally, the car mount is about what you’d expect – a suction cup that you can attach to your windshield or dashboard.

It wasn’t all about iPhone 5 owners though, as Lifeproof also took time at the show to announce a new case for the Galaxy S III. Like the company’s case for the iPhone 5, the Galaxy S III case will be waterproof up to depths of 6.6 feet, dirt proof, and shock proof from heights of up to 6.6 feet. Expect to hear more about these accessories and the incoming Galaxy S III case soon.

We know the holiday shopping spree has already ended and Christmas is long gone, but a neat new toy is being shown off here at CES from the folks at SilverLit. What we have here is an awesome RC Car that is controlled by your iOS device of choice, but that isn’t all it does. The RC car has speakers, moving doors, actual headlights and more that all work seamlessly with your iPhone or iPad. Listen to music, or annoy your co-workers with this gadget.

While we’ve seen RC cars and other devices controlled by our favorite smartphones before, SilverLit added a few nice features that makes their Mercedes-Benz quite fun. The device is actually meant to be an awesome replica Mercedes-Benz for your office desk or garage. It then doubles as an RC car. It doesn’t just drive around endlessly searching for a garage however, it has other functions.

We first mentioned this a few weeks ago, and now we have the details. Instead of sitting on a desk, you can use this to secretly annoy and surprise co-workers and office mates. The built-in speakers actually jam out and plays your devices iTunes library. Once paired with the SilverLit app you’ll be able to play your own music playlist. Here’s a quick video of it in action although you might not be able to hear the music.

The Mercedes-Benz by SilverLit has integrated speakers that will blast your favorite tunes right from your iPad or iPhone 5 iTunes library. While this isn’t ideal for average users (as we don’t fit in the car) kids can enjoy it, as well as those wanting to have a little fun at the office. Then you’ll be able to make the SilverLit dance. Yes we said dance. The car lights flash to the beat, and the doors will open and close too. It’s actually quite fun and more than just your average RC car. So far pricing hasn’t been finalized by SilverLit, but it will be available this spring.

Here at ShowStoppers during CES 2013, TrackingPoint is showing off a next-generation rifle/scope combo that includes some amazing technology that we’ve never seen before in a firearm. The company had the rifle and scope on display, and we ended up checking it out for ourselves to see what kind of features and high-tech goodies that it offers.

TrackingPoint has developed the world’s first precision-guided firearm (PGF) system and essentially, the company is putting fighter-jet style “lock and launch” technology into rifle systems. The company says that this creates the most accurate shooting system in the world, and it can enable anyone to be an elite long-range marksman within minutes.

Check out our Extended Talk with Jason Schauble, President of TrackingPoint as well.

As far as what the scope and rifle system can do, users can stream video to a smartphone and display what you see through the scope on the screen of a mobile device over a WiFi or data connection. The scope can also control the trigger weight in order to guide the shooter, so when the shooter is off target, the trigger weight is temporarily inflated to defer launch, but when the shooter precisely intersects the target, the trigger weight is decreased, which allows normal trigger use.

The system also utilizes computer vision-based digital image processing to track targets. Images from the optical sensors are analyzed and targets are identified and tracked, thanks to techniques such as edge detection and blob detection. As far as buttons, there’s a focus adjustment, a zoom rocker, a mode button, and a wind adjuster. The rifle system is expected to be available some time this year at a price between $15,000 and $20,000.

Enter the olloclip: an iPhone lens system that connects to your device with a set of three different shooting modes: fish eye, macro, and wide angle – and the case we’re looking at today is hitting the market very soon. This system has been out on the market for some time in its original iPhone 4/4S form and is now bringing on the heat for the iPhone 5′s body and size. We got our opportunity to have a hands-on look at this bit of hardware at ShowStoppers 2013 during CES this week in fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada.

This system comes in a box that contains a microfiber bag with the olloclip logo on it so you can carry it all in your pocket safely, two lens caps (one for each side), and the actual olloclip unit. The unit connects to the corner of your iPhone 5 either on its own or combined with a special protective case (that of course protects your iPhone 5 as most people love to do.) The unit carries with it all three different lenses at once, one of the two red units being able to flip to reveal the second angle, the other containing the third.

This system is a bit of hardware and works with the lens on your iPhone in a way that you don’t have to concern yourself with which app you’re using to match up with it. Instead, you’re modifying the eye through which your iPhone sees, this allowing you to take photos as you normally would, here with extraordinary results. The entire system can be left on your iPhone in your pocket or, if you prefer, can be attached at will and carried separately in your handy olloclip pouch.

This solution for your iPhone 5 is out in stores right this minute, ready for action for a cool $69.99 USD right this minute. You’ll be able to pick one up in red and black, black and black, or white and black. Have a peek at the rest of our ShowStoppers 2013 action as well as our CES portal for more action than your eyes and ears can handle – all week long!

While Apple keeps up the mobile hero action with their iPhone 5 all around the world, Lenovo brings forth a massive beast of a device known as the IdeaPhone K900. These two devices are just about as different as two phones can get, the iPhone working with a 4-inch display, the IdeaPhone K900 bringing on a beastly 5.5-inch display, but the similarities are there: both companies want the world to understand that they want to push forth a hero made not only to destroy the competition with specifications, but as a solid project that’s more than the sum of its parts.

You can get the full details of the Lenovo IdeaPhone K900 in our original hands-on from just a bit earlier tonight, but the key bits appear to be this: a solid thought-out bit of hardware surrounding Lenovo’s unique brand of Android and an Intel Atom Z2580 (Clover Trail) processor. The iPhone 5, compared in those aspects, is of course also a solid thought-out bit of hardware surrounding Apple’s own entire mobile OS (iOS) and an Apple A6 chip.

At the moment there’s really not a whole lot we can compare between the two because of the prototype stage of the Lenovo device, but the approach appears to be very similar. Of course Lenovo’s device runs Google’s mobile OS instead of their own in-house software, but they seem to want to move forward with a single device as a hero. We’ll see this year if they stick to their guns.

Have a peek at the couple of real simple photos we’ve got of the two of these devices side-by-side and let us know if you feel like the two are going to be hitting the same person’s pocket any time soon. Be sure to see our CES portal as well as the ShowStoppers 2013 tag to see more action throughout the night and forward through the rest of the week, and keep an eye tuned for more sweetness from all angles!

Here at Showstoppers 2013 during CES 2013, Evado Filip is showing off its new device called VivoPlay. The device has one very important goal: keep your children safe without suffocating them. Parents can link the VivoPlay to a companion iOS or Android app, keeping tabs on their child while letting them still be a kid.

There are a number of potentially life-saving features Evado Filip is focusing on with the VivoPlay. The first of the features is location, with the device being able to keep an eye on your child’s location using GPS, GSM, and WiFi. Using those three technologies at once means that there’s a better chance your child will be able to be found if they go missing, so naturally, it’s a winning idea.

Parents will be able to designate five different numbers that can communicate with the VivoPlay, and outside of those, the device won’t be able to contact anyone else. Children only need to push a single button to make a call, so if they ever need help, they won’t need to go through menu after menu to make a call. Parents will also be able to send text messages up to 16 characters long to their child’s VivoPlay, which is an added bonus.

One particularly nifty feature is the ability to create safe zones. If your child wanders outside of the safe zone you’ve designated, you’ll be alerted with a text message, and in turn you’ll be able to contact your child and see what’s up. It’s a very cool little device and it even comes with a built-in emergency feature that a child can use to get help quickly. The VivoPlay will be available soon, but while we wait for more details to come out of Evado Filip, be sure to check out our CES portal for all of our news from the show.

With the Lenovo IdeaPhone K900, the company enters in the race for a real live hero phone for the whole world, here reminding us instantly of the other massive smartphone in this warring market – the Samsung Galaxy Note II. What we’ve got here is a real live fight for a dominant beast, a massive machine made to rule them all, starting with displays – and Lenovo takes the cake with resolution right out of the box. Samsung, on the other hand, has the physically larger display (though it is a bit less dense in its pixel distribution.)

The thing about the IdeaPhone K900 right this minute is that it’s still in its prototype phase, not actually coming out until somewhere around April of this year – and the initial plan is to release it in China alone. The Samsung Galaxy Note II is already out in quite a few countries around the world, including the USA and Europe. The prospect of the IdeaPhone K900 is great though, regardless of its release range, simply because it’s working with the relatively rare Intel Atom Z2580 Clover Trail SoC.

The Samsung Galaxy Note II works with the Samsung Exynos quad-core processor we know works to great effect even across its massive face. The IdeaPhone K900 has a display that’s 5.5-inches and 1080p resolution with IPS technology while the Galaxy Note II’s face is a 5.5-inch 720p display working with Super AMOLED – bright as can be.

Some of the items we’re really not able to compare at the moment are the Android OS versions, as though the Note is up to Android 4.2 in some places, the Lenovo offering has not yet been shown with a full working version of Android as of yet. We’ll be sure to see a whole lot more in the very near future from the company as the device hits the market. Have a peek at our hands-on comparison images above and below and let us know which one you’d choose if given the chance!

OtterBox is making a big appearance here at ShowStoppers during CES 2013, and they unveiled their new Armor series of smartphone cases. The company is known for durable and indestructible cases, and the Armor series definitely skimp on that. In fact, the Armor series is OtterBox’s most toughest case yet, and we ended up getting our hands on the new case.

OtterBox says that new Armor series case is waterproof, drop proof, dust proof, and crush proof. It can withstand water as deep as 6.6 feet for up to 30 minutes before it’ll give. It’s drop proof from up to 10 feet and it can withstand up to 2 tons of pressure. Plus, completely dust proof, and the company says that “zero” dust will get into your phone.

Actually, the phone is so dust proof that they put screens over the speaker ports so that sound will still come out of the phone, but no dust will get inside. We have to say that it’s really impressive, and users who want complete protection of their phone will no doubt benefit from OtterBox’s new Armor series case.

The case will be available for the iPhone 4/4S, iPhone 5, and the Samsung Galaxy S III. Technically, OtterBox says that the case is still a prototype, but it’s “very close” to being a finished product. It’ll be available starting February 22 at a reasonable price of $99.

This week the Lenovo IdeaPhone K900 has been revealed: a massively powerful smartphone working with Android and a 5.5-inch 1080p IPS display with an Intel Atom Z2580 processor (that’s Clover Trail, mind you) under the hood. This smartphone is super slim at just 6.9mm and weighs in at just 162g, both of these specifications rendered extra impressive by the fact that you’re working with the features you’re about to read all about. This machine feels just as nice as it sounds, looking ready for the market in the very near future.

The Lenovo K900 is the company’s new hero phone, working with a composite of stainless steel alloy and polycarbonate in a Unibody mold – sleek and robust. The phone remains thin due to work Lenovo’s done on optimizing both the thinness of the camera setup and the layout of the internal battery. The front of this device is covered with top of the line Corning Gorilla Glass 2 for scratch protection as well – their newest solution.

Lenovo IdeaPhone K900 hands-on with Chris Davies:

Though as Lenovo mentions, Intel has not released full specifications on the chipset as such, Lenovo will be bursting forth with this SoC sooner than later – April in China, in fact. Pricing, if you’re wondering, has not been announced at the moment. Then there’s the camera technology behind this machine’s lovely 13 megapixel shooter.

You’ll be working with a Sony Exmor BSI sensor as well as an F1.8 focal length lens. This camera has the widest aperture of any smartphone-based camera in the field today, and the front-facing camera has been given a boost as well. With a fabulous 88 degree viewing angle on the front-facing camera on this smartphone you’ll once again be working with the best of the best – no front-facing camera on a smartphone has a wider angle than that.

Have a peek at the hands-on look we’ve got above and below to get a handle on what this phone will mean for you in the very near future. At the moment it is, in fact, only announced for China – but we can dream! Stick around our CES 2013 portal all week long as well to make sure you’re into the fold with all of our up to the minute news bits and hands-on adventures.

We’ve seen our fair share of smartphones and devices that claim to be “water-resistant” or something close, but the folks from P2i aim to deliver the full experience to all smartphones. Yesterday we showed you guys Liquipel that will treat and waterproof your device for a fee, but P2i wants our OEMs to launch phones already fully protected.

The technology, product, and option isn’t really anything new at the moment. It features the same process that will treat your smartphone or tablet on a molecular level. Essentially coating every aspect of the device in a waterproof film invisible to the eye. This covers the electronics inside, speaker grills, cameras and everything else.

We’ve already been enjoying P2i’s technology in some of our favorite Android smartphones. The “Splash Guard” feature that Motorola introduced with their DROID RAZR and RAZR HD is all P2i. The difference between them and other companies is P2i wants our device to be protected out of the box, rather then ship them off for a water-proofing process.

Shown off here at CES 2013 is their brand new technology that builds on Splash Guard to make the entire device 100% waterproof, or what they call “dunkable” to the point where we can drop our smartphone in the tub for hours at a time without harm. As you saw in my image above they featured the Samsung Galaxy S III resting at the bottom of a tank completely unharmed. So while this technology is slowly becoming available to end users, hopefully we’ll just enjoy future smartphones that are 100% waterproof thanks to technology from P2i. They’re working with multiple partners and will be launched inside millions of smartphones throughout 2013.

OtterBox is here at ShowStoppers at CES 2013, and they’re just unveiling some new, updated iPhone cases. The Defender series is the company’s most popular product, and they just revealed an updated version that comes with an extra battery, as well as an accompanying mobile app that provides a user interface for monitoring the extra battery.

The case provides the same great protection that the Defender series has always provided, but this updated version, which OtterBox is still calling a prototype, comes with some extra new features, including an extra 1450mAh battery, which will provide double the power of the iPhone 4/4S, which comes with a 1440mAh battery on the inside.

The case also has ten LED indicators on the front, and each one represents 10% of the battery life, and clicking a button below the LEDs will turn on the indicators for a couple of seconds so that you can see what level the external battery is at without having to open up the OtterBox app.

Speaking of the app (which was built by Fueled), OtterBox introduces iON Intelligence technology with this new Defender case. The app tells you how much juice you have left in both your iPhone and the external OtterBox battery, and will automatically determine when your iPhone battery needs more juice. Again, this is still an experimental sample, so some things may change, but the company said that we should expect it to arrive before the summer.

This week we’ve gotten the opportunity to have a talk with Sriram K Peruvemba, Chief Marketing Officer of Eink, showing today what’s now the world’s thinnest watch. This is the CST-01, a Kickstarter project at the moment, coming from the folks at CST (aka Central Standard Timing) and Eink itself, a partnership that’ll be delivering the watch to users this year. Have a peek at our talk with Peruvemba in video form here at Showstoppers during CES 2013.

What we’re seeing here is a watch that takes the best features of a regular watch, that being low power, readability, and an overall pleasing experience and made it as thin as its ever been. This watch is more than just rugged, too, able to be punched directly in the face (so to speak) without having its usability altered at all. The watch itself is actually only 0.80mm thin – miraculous, really.

The watch is charged through a base station that’ll be coming with the device when users receive it in the mail (or in stores in the future) and you’ll be able to choose from two different time displays, 24 or 12 hour formats. The whole weight of the device is 12 grams – that’s less than 5 pennies, imagine that! From what we’ve heard from Peruvemba right here live and in-action at Showstoppers, this machine is going to be a real fashion hit (as well as a tech hit for nerds of all kinds). See it soon!

The watch is in the process of being funded by a Kickstarter where the first 500 users will be able to own it for $99 (if you fund it, of course). After that you’ll be paying for the watch for a total of $129 USD. The watches we’re seeing here are right off the assembly line, prototypes right out of the factory, literally. Check the photos above and below and see it all in your hands soon!
