ShowStoppers 2012

My CES 2012

My CES 2012

There's no larger an event the entire year round for tech bloggers such as I, and at the moment, there's no bigger trade show for Consumer Electronics than CES - this being my first full year attending the events inside and surrounding CES 2012, I thought I'd give you a bit of a look inside what it means to be on the publisher's side of this monster storm of keynotes, meetings, and floor time. Now that the week is over, I've got a couple of moments to sit on the couch and attempt to put down everything that happened (viewable through our [CES LIVE Portal]) without having a heart attack over the sleep I've lost, and I'd like for you to snoop in on the situation from this perspective. Once you've read what I've got to say here, please feel free to ask any questions you might have as well.

Boogie Board RIP eWriter hands-on

Boogie Board by Improvelectronics may or may not be a device you've heard of before. I guess in a way we could call it a tablet although it isn't really a tablet in today's usual terms -- and instead more of a notepad device. Whether you have a Boogie Board for your kids or to save space and paper in your office you wont want to miss the new RIP -- it can save your notes.

We were here at ShowStoppers 2012 in CES with Wrapsol. Today they unveiled the Wrapsol non-slip grip pad. We've seen products that do essentially the same thing before, but not with their superb 'tactile' technology. Tactilla isn't velcro or adhesive. It creates a wider surface area and tension so that i can even grip clothing.

Insider Talk: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Hybrid

Insider Talk: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Hybrid

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 burst on to the scene last year to considerable interest, thanks to its thin profile combined with high-end hardware and classic ThinkPad styling. The newest model is much the same with a few upgraded components, but the "Hybrid" distinction is thanks to the addition of a Qualcomm ARM-based system on a chip, which adds a low-power media mode. Lenovo was kind enough to join us on stage at the Showstoppers event at CES to show off the new model.

Exclusive Insider Talk: Anya Ayoung Chee of Project Runway and HP

This week we got the opportunity to sit down with HP and Project Runway Season 9's winning designer Anya Ayoung Chee to speak about her win of the Intel & HP design challenge. We were at Showstoppers CES 2012 and spoke about no less than how technology made the task of being a modern day designer a wholly enjoyable one - textiles to integrated media, all of it sits at the heart of her interests. For the HP design challenge she spoke on how the technology the contestants needed to use was very user friendly and made her taking part in the challenge a positive one - an organic feel to the whole situation made for, again, a positive experience from start to finish. Social media, Chee noted, is a part of her every day life, Twitter especially, she connecting with her fan base in a way that designers of the past never had the opportunity to.

Ultrabooks are all the rage at CES 2012, but Lenovo's just unveiled a new model with an eye-popping twist. The Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga takes the slim frame of the other IdeaPad U-series ultrabooks and adds Windows 8, ten-finger multi-touch and a unique double-hinged design to make a convertible tablet with a full keyboard. It's one of the most unique designs we've seen at the show, so we asked Lenovo to the stage of the Showstoppers event to show it off.

Exclusive Insider Talk: Lenovo Racer-A hands-on with Stephen Miller

Here at CES 2012 during Showstoppers, we've been fortunate enough to get a personal interview with no less than Lenovo's own Stephen Miller speaking all about the 1st IA platform smartphone based on the Intel Medfield chip, the Lenovo Racer-A SmartPhone, aka the K800. This device is part of the Idea Smart Phone K series and has a 4.5-inch 720p multi-touch display with fabulous viewing angles.
