CTIA was last week, and the SlashGear team brought you lots of great coverage from the event. While new devices were scarce, we got a closer look at some impressive phones and products from some of our favorite companies. We’ll bring you up to speed on CTIA and other important news just in case you missed it.

We took a look at the MSI X-Slim X340 and compared it to the iPhone 3G and Lenovo ThinkPad X301 in terms of size. The MSI X-Slim X340 is an attractive laptop, and the planned sub $1000 price tag makes it even more so.

There are rumors circulating that Apple has ordered 3.2 MP and 5 MP camera sensors, possibly for use in their next revision of the iPhone and possibly another unannounced device.

We had a plethora of Palm Pre coverage from CTIA over at our sister site, MyPre.com and if you missed it all, go check it out. The Pre is set to make some trouble for the iPhone’s, assuming that Palm and Sprint announce the release date and price point for the device. First there was the hands-on video and then the demo of the Pandora and Fandango applications, which are looking pretty slick.

SoundID has some new Bluetooth headsets that we got our hands on at CTIA. We got an interview with the CEO of SoundID and got a demo of the device.

BlueAnt also had some new Bluetooth headsets that we got a demo of at CTIA. They’re featuring voice controls for easy pairing and information such as battery life and pairing status.

And finally, we got a look at the previously announced Motorola Evoke and MOTOROKR headset. The Evoke is a new touchscreen phone meant for users who are new to touchscreens as a whole, and the MOTOROKR’s are some lightweight and quality sounding headsets.

Continuing our list, we have a company offering products that are well known around the cellular world. Novatel Wireless was showing off two of its hottest new devices, both of which are exciting for anyone who ever needed an internet connection on the go.

First up is the MiFi. This handy little device broadcasts a wifi hotspot to connect up to 5 users to the EVDO Rev. A cellular connection. The battery lasts 4 hours for active use, and 40 hours of standby. The MiFi was a lot smaller than I thought it was going to be. You can literally stick it in your pocket and lose it if you’re not careful. The version in the video below is the CDMA version, and there will be a GSM version released soon.

We saw the MiFi in action, and it was sweet. It worked like they said it did, and the internet connection was fast enough to satisfy the mobile users of Slash Gear. There haven’t been any official announcements for which US carriers the MiFi will be available on (CDMA, think about it) but we were told we would be seeing the MiFi in stores “very soon.”

Novatel’s next product was as equally exciting as the MiFi. The MC996D Wireless card is a HSPA+ capable wireless modem that can handle, in theory, up to 21.6 megabits per second. No word on release date or pricing, but you can assume it will be on a GSM carrier sometime in the near future.

This application acts as a second business line for those who really get a lot of use out of their phones.

Using GPS this application can determine the pre-programmed number that you are closest to and transfer the call to that number, or if you would like you may also choose another number from the list.

Coincidentally this application was submitted to Apple back on October 15th with no word on availability or even an approval. If you are interested in trying it out now you can head over toMynewber.com to sign up for a beta test.

The Pogoplug by Could Engines provides users remote access anywhere in the world to their external hard drive through the Internet. This small plug also allows you to access your external drive even from your home computer as a local drive.

Just plug the Pogoplug into an internet line and follow the simple setup instructions and you will be able to access your music and video content as well as any other files you may have through any web browser securely outside of your home with no need to configure or compromise your firewall.

The Pogoplug is designed to offer anyone a simple and affordable solution to carrying your hard drives around with you. Last year alone over seven million drives were sold in the US alone with numbers growing as the general public becomes more aware of the technology. This service also works with the growing number of iPhones and BlackBerry handsets as well as many other HTML web browsers. We are not 100 percent sure about the available date, but you will be able to pick up the Pogoplug for $99 when it does release.

Plastic Logic has set out to lead a revolution establishing the plastic electronics industry using our proprietary technology in plastic electronics to create a range of products. The first product they offer is the Plastic Logic eReader and is focused on reading digital business content and better organizing the information.

Plastic Logic’s technology solves critical issues in manufacturing high- resolution transistor arrays on flexible plastic using low temperature processes that do not require mask alignment. The reader comes in a stunning form factor being only the size of a 8.5 x 11-inch piece of paper and also thinner than a pad of paper.

Plastic Logic is building these displays in their new stat of the part high-volume manufacturing facility in Dresden Germany. This eReader technology is set to launch in 2009 and become more commercially available in 2010.

Leader in mobile storage solutions, EMTEC, has announced the Gdium ultra-portable, affordable netbook computer. In a world of netbooks we are seeing devices spring up left and right, who knows where the next netbook will come from?

The Gdium is fairly small weighing in at just 2.6 pounds with dimensions of 9.6 x 7.2 x 1.5 inches. This new netbook backs at 10-inch screen with 1024 x 600 resolution just above a full QWERTY keyboard (nothing new there). The software application package that comes with Gdium is based entirely upon open source software. Included are a bunch of familiar software applications including Firefox Internet browser, Thunderbird email, instant messaging and even VoIP support.

The Gdium also comes with a G-Key that is required in order to fire up the netbook. The G-Key contains the operating system, a Linux distribution by Mandriva, G-Linux, the applications and the personal data. Gdium runs an optimized version of Mandriva Linux OS that has been specifically designed for a 64-bit system. EMTEC has priced this netbook in the $400 range in order to better compete with rivals and make their mark on the netbook market.

These new modules will be released sometime time in the first quarter of 2009 with prices ranging from about $70 to $300 for the Pico Projector. They are also to announce a keyboard attachment soon after the release of these five modules.

Schwinn has announced a new Pedal Assisted Bike that, as the name applies, assists the user with pedaling. This in turn takes half of the effort that you would normally put into pedaling a bike up a hill. ShashGear had a few moments to test drive these bikes and now I feel I must have one.

The bike itself will take whatever watt your pedaling at and double it in output. Powering the 250 watt motor is a Toshiba SCIB supercharged battery that will provide roughly 15 miles of riding on a single 45 minute charge. The battery is guaranteed to last for 3,000 charges but has been tested up to 6,000 with 85 percent capacity. That is really great compared to the 500 charges that competing bikes boast.

These Pedal Assisted Bikes are available in the $3,000 range, which these days seems a whole lot more affordable than a car, insurance and gas.

Xlink allows users to transfer calls from their mobile phone to any phone in the house. This service works with any Bluetooth capable phone. Pair up to any three devices that will also shoot over any caller information straight to the home phone.

Say you’re at home and your phone rings but you would like to speak on your home phone rather than being stuck to a wall charger with a dead phone. Now you can just transfer any call to your home phone and pick it up from there. This replaces the need for several other services provided by your mobile provider.

Frankly, for $79.99 it seems a bargain. XLink also sell the BTTN gateway, which can connect to up to three cellphones plus a landline (or VoIP line), for $109.99.

Telenav CEO HP Jin stopped by to give us the scoop on a new integrated Telenav service that will be available in Ford Sync compatible cars. Unlike most personal navigation devices (PND) this service will be always updating itself.

The database is always growing and Telenav felt that this service needs to be fully updated all the time. Most PNDs are stuck with the same information that has been pre-uploaded to the device, requiring people to manually update the device periodically. Think the Telenav Shotgun only better and built-in to the car.

Aimed to be released sometime this year we are still not sure as to when we will actually be seeing this service. The service will be free as sart of the car with three years of free service.

Gracenote has come out with a new technology that is being integrated into car navigation systems that helps users navigate thorough there music while staying safe on the road. One of the highlights of this technology is the music CD recognition.

The music CD recognition will automatically bring up artist name, album title, song name and even album art. All of this information is already stored in the pre-loaded in-car Gracenote CD database so there is no need to connect to the internet in order to gain information. This allows users to easily navigate music and keep their eyes on the road. There is also a MediaVOCS service that allows users to speak the name of the artist and find what you are looking for and it will automatically be displayed.

Updating the database will be distributed via DVD every year. Gracenote technology is now available in 4 select Ford models with more to come soon. Some Ford models with navigation systems will come standard with Gracenote, while others will have this as an option.

Shapeways.com has just launched a new service that allows users to create their own 3D items. Online you can create unique and personal items from 3D images to test sculptures.

The technology itself has been around for ten years and Shapways has brought it to the general public. There are five different materials that can be used to create the item such as nylon. A few of the pieces that we were able to see is a vase-like facial sculpture that actually reflects a facial image when a candle is place inside and a worded candle holder.

Right now you can long onto Shapeways.com and upload your images or just create your own personalized sculpture. Pricing varies on size and materials. The Candle holder we viewed would run about $80 while the vase would be a few hundred.
