It has been a while since I’ve managed to dig up a story involving the Solid Alliance, I was worrying that my favorite seller of overly shiny USB devices had given up. Without the Solid Alliance, who would I have to bash on over and over?!

Alright, so I’m going to say this and we’ll see if Hell happens to freeze over. I actually don’t think this one is all that bad. Is it safe? Alright, looks like the world doesn’t end when I’m actually nice to the Solid Alliance.

This 2.0 USB drive features 2GB of memory and weighs a 20g, despite its heavy look. It measures 32x32x6mm. The drive also locks with the dainty little key that comes with it.

Originally they only featured black and white, which isn’t all that exciting. Now they have added red, green and orange to the line up.

As far as specs go, the mouse doesn’t really have much to speak of, after all it is still just a shiny mouse shaped like a rocket ship. To pick up your own it will only cost you $18.

A few days back I wrote up a usb hub that happened to have a task light attached, the usefulness of the light was a bit of a stretch. However, at least there was the hub so it was still a practical and useful item. Yet this string of fairy lights can only be described as shiny.

You can try to pretend the blue glow is soothing while you work, but in the end you just got sucked into buying a USB product purely for its shiny appeal. Alright, to be fair this silly string of lights does appeal to that childlike girly part of me.

Although they are called fairy lights, the little shapes are actually tiny blue stars. The string is 36” long and is being sold for $12.95.

Sadly this is a Hitachi Japan product, they seem to get all of the cute little accessories that seem to never make it to the US. The earbuds feature an elliptical over shaped port which is great for comfort as well as sound insulation.

The Hitachi HP-CN11 comes in ten different colors and won’t be for sale in Japan until July 25th of this year. They will be sold for 2500 Yen, or $25.

The TV pictures are displayed at 16:9 cinema format and is 1366 x 768 pixels. The TV decked out in crystals measures 80cm across, diagonally of course. It is sold in black as well as white, although the black looks plenty chic.

Although glowing drumsticks aren’t for everyone, I am definitely comfortable enough with my geeky tendencies that I’d be happy to play with a set of these.

However, it would help if I could even play the Rock Band drum set. My hand/eye/feet coordination is completely shot. Actually, just my hand/eye coordination really bites too, I just happen to skate by well enough on the guitar on Rock Band to cover it up at least a little.

The drumsticks from Firestix will start lighting up when you begin banging away at your plastic drums. They are made out of a durable Lexan so that they won’t snap in two when you get overly excited playing a bit of Metallica. Amazon is currently selling them for $25 a pair in both blue and red.

I am not entirely sure how this thing works, but apparently the gist of it is soap-less dish washing. Somehow it uses sonic waves of water to remove even the deepest particles of dirt without the slightest amount of soap necessary.

Word is the little record player thing, which is coincidentally what I thought this was at first glance, shoots water out and an alarming rate, a sonic rate if you will, and cleans stuff. I have no idea how well this little bugger actually works, but I do know, that as far as dish washers go, this is by far one of the best looking ones I’ve seen that wasn’t human.

The only downside I could see is that depending on the number of dishes you are doing at a time, this could be a real water waster, and the other is that if it sprays water hard enough to clean dishes without soap, it could probably quite easily hurt someone. Lastly, most machines I know of capable at pushing water out at rates fast enough to clean things are really loud, and that’s highly unattractive.

Akihabra News was lucky enough to have Sony lend them one of their newest HandyCams for review, the HDR-TG1. In Europe it’s known as the TG3, but the product is the same, a thin, light, and shiny FullHD digital camcorder.

That means it can record at 1920×1080, which I believe makes it a direct competitor to the Sanyo Xacti HD1000. They guys over at Akihabra haven’t had time to review it yet, but initial comments included one regarding the Auto-Focus saying “AF seems a bit too lazy for me,”

For some reason Sony covered up the actual product picture on the box before sending it out, so you don’t get to see that. But if you recollect from the previous article I wrote about this camcorder is uses MemoryStick PRO DUO cards and records in AVCHD, which to some would be considered some major downers, however, if you already have a predominant collection of Sony products, this will likely integrate with the rest of those quite seamlessly. Plus, it does apparently come with an 8GB card for it as well as several other cables for connecting it to your TV and/or computer.

You know that robotic guitar that Gibson rolled out last year that could auto tune itself to a number of different scales and were programmable to any custom tuning you required? It was like the most badass guitar ever, well they are making a new version that will be more widely available, since getting your hands on one of the originals was nigh impossible.

The downside is that they may not need to make many more of them as the first thing most buyers are going to have to do is to have it re-finished in some other color than the bright, shiny, metallic purple that it comes in. The new version will be the SG version of the robotic guitar.

I got to see the original in action at CES this year and it really is as awesome as it sounds. You set it to tune, strum it a few times and let it adjust the strings, then once it’s all adjusted you push the knob back in and you are ready to rock. Next they need to work on an acoustic/electric hybrid version of this.

A mouse for the general public is typically a boring accessory to an average computer. However, for those of us that live and breath through the computer we need awe-inspiring accessories to accompany it. This sparkly mouse is just the thing to sit next to any pink and/or sparkly keyboard.

I have my mouse that I like to show off to everyone and for me, it fits, it’s a gaming mouse with more buttons than I can handle. Yet, it is my pride and joy right along side my illuminated keyboard. So I understand the need for gadgets that fit your needs and personality. For me, this mouse would have every one of its faux diamonds picked off in a week, but for someone else its perfect in every way.

The mouse measures 10 x 3 cm and is being sold online for about $55. Which is much cheaper than some of the Swarvoski adorned gadgets that have popped up here and there.

So first it was those new notebooks I told you about the other day, the Jisus ones, and now the guy is cranking out a very fashionable cell phone watch. The WM2 is due out on April 14th and boasts a 1.3-inch 260k color touchscreen.

Other features of this watch include Stereo Bluetooth and 1GB of storage for MP3 or MP4 files. You’ll also get about 5 hours of talk time or 240 hours of standby (regular watch) time.

The biggest downside of this watch is the $471 price tag. Then there is the fact that this guy or company has come out of the blue, announced two fairly cool products, with this watch only being shown in shiny concept drawing stages, and has yet to have a product actually released. I’m sorry but this many cool products being announced this quickly throws up the “Fishy” flag in my brain. However, if this watch/cell phone actually does come out and it really does look as cool as the picture and it works in the US, It would definitely be worth the asking price.

For those with expensive tastes when it comes to kitchen gadgets, you’ll love this Crystal-Encrusted Toaster from Neiman Marcus. I have on occasion looked at a $50 vintage style toaster and drooled a bit, knowing I have a perfectly good toaster at home.

However, now I feel a little less prissy since apparently someone saw fit to create this expensive little number. The toaster created by Russell Hobbs is made of glass and stainless steel and encrusted with more than 200 Swarvoski crystals. Which leaves me to wonder. Why?! Seriously people, it’s toast.

It, as with all toasters, has a dial to decide how brown and crispy you want your bread. However, despite the price, it still pops out normal, boring, plain toast. If you can’t seem to resist that whole shiny factor, the toaster will set you back $300.

Engadget has gotten their hands on iPhone firmware version 2.0. Some of the new features include a scientific calculator when you turn your iPhone sideways with the calculator open and the previously announced Exchange support is as smooth as it should be.

There isn’t a contacts search function, although they proposed that it might be because they don’t have too terribly many contacts, so it might require a contact least of more length for that feature to kick in. There is also no two pane mail client (mail list in one, message in the other).

The app store was there though, even though all it did was error code out saying that it couldn’t connect. There were also a couple of button icon changes, including the calculator button and the iTunes Store button. Other than that, nothing really important to see here, I’m just really, really hoping that Firmware 2.0 lands on Hardware 2.0 with a new shiny 3G chipset, I know other users are pushing for a whole list of other new hardware features, and those would be nice, but just a new 3G chipset would make me happy.

They are scheduled to be released in June for an unknown price. It looks like a pretty nice player, I’m still kind of partial to my Samsung YP-P2 though, and I don’t think this player has the touchscreen like my P2.

Yashica, the brand, is returning with some new digital and film cameras. The DVC825 seems to be from their higher end and is a digital camera that looks simply amazing.

It has the bendy and twisty parts of some Nokia phone I’ve seen before and what looks like a bright shiny aluminum casing, all of which combines to make for one sexy ass camera. Sadly this particular camera costs $1700, but that’s also good because it shows that unlike its previous iteration, the Yashica brand name won’t be stuck with mediocre middle-of-the-line cameras and they’ll actually have some high end products.

The DVC825 has an 8MP CCD sensor, 3x optical zoom that’s all internal, a 2.5” LCD, 8x digital zoom, auto White Balance, and 256MB integrated storage with an SDHC card slot for expansion. Apparently most of its price comes from its appearance and materials, but there is mention of an Earphone that’s included that makes me believe it also does video, but the specs for that just might not be listed.

I am no photography historian, but apparently Yashica was fairly well known and respected for the middle of the line cameras that they made back in the day, but they went bankrupt in 2005. Since then they seem to have been bought out by MF Jebsen and are giving it another go. No word when we’ll see them statedside, but its always good to see more competition entering into the digital camera market.

So there are two concentric circles of LED, those are the hours and minute markings, every 5 minutes, with the inner circle being the hours. Then there is a bar of LEDs to indicate which minute, within the five minute markings, it is, oh, and there is also an AM indicator light.

Nothing is numbered, so if you are having an off day, you’ll have to count every single one of those dots. Its waterproof for up to 150 feet and has a stainless steel casing, the price is still a bit too high though at £99 or about $200.

This thing is so old it still has an integrated floppy disk drive. But somehow he managed to (thickly) coat it in bright, shiny, gold paint and add some sort of air intake and a Cadillac logo,

There is also a “PIMP inside” logo, a pair of exhaust pipes, and some flame stickers. The best part has to be the “DELL” spelled out in crystals on the top of the air intake. The specs are garbage, and the fact that it runs Windows ME just makes it that much worse, it hurts my eyes to look at it too long, but talk about dedication, the dude should put a grill around the floppy drive slot, that would top it all off.

With over 700,000 of these babies sold its no surprise they are trying something new to see how much longer they can capitalize on this single design, and they really are truly amazing devices. Other than the external color change there is at least one internal update as well.

The internal update comes in the form of some better QWERTY keyboard software, I wonder if that brings it closer to that of the iPhone, or if maybe it’s even better than that. This is one shiny phone, I feel sorry for the photographer that had to try and take shots of the thing without getting a ton of glare.

Since you were probably wondering, it appears to only be coming to 18 European countries, no word on if/when it will make its way to the US. Pricing though should be pretty close to the $500 USD that the older models seem to be going for these days.

Well, now there is a cocktail mixer that can do a better job of entertaining you than those fools.

You pour in your ingredients and put the lid on just like any other cocktail mixer, but instead of picking it up and shaking it, you hit the button and it spins all the ingredients together hurricane style. I’m not much of a cocktail guy, but if I were, I’d definitely want one of these.

If you are a big fan of cocktails such as Martini’s, Cosmopolitans, or other such drinks, you can pick one of these up at Amazon for $14.49. I assume its battery powered as well, so you’ll need some of those as well, just be sure that you and those you drink with have more personality than this drink mixer.

Clearly I haven’t been alone all these years in wondering why we don’t make cars out of wood as some graduate students are actually going to give it a go. I can imagine some logistical problems such as the density of wood, the ease with which it breaks, and its lack of ability to stand up to the elements on its own, but I think they can figure something out.

I mean, there are houses built out of wood that last for hundreds of years, why couldn’t it work with a car too? As you can see from the picture, they are planning on making the whole of the exterior wooden, but there will likely be wood inside as well, and under the hood the chassis and suspension get wood complements as well.

There is also talk of a 600hp V8 (something about that big of an engine being surrounded by kindling scares me). They even managed to design wheels that can hold the 2500 pound body, and the wheels are made with wood too. Understandably, they did have to move some things around as far as the exhaust is concerned in order to keep things from catching on fire, but I like the look of it.

So you already have an iPod or iPhone, but you want it blinged out a bit without dolling out thousands of dollars, well, the Gilty Couture collection has you covered, well they actually have your iPod covered, but you get the idea. Anyways, you can buy a case for your iPod or iPhone from these folks in various metals/crystal colors and they all look amazing.

You get your choice of gold or silver, both are jewelry grade, whatever that means, then you get your choice of regular crystals, or pink crystals, embedded into the metal of your choice making up a fashionable shiny shiny iPod case. On a side note, the crystals are all apparently Swarovski crystals, the value of which I am sure is constantly diminished since they are putting them in everything these days, I even saw them on a pencil the other day.

The price tags depend on model and metal primarily, but the number of crystals is also a factor. The cheapest case, at $55, is for the latest version of Shuffle (also the smallest), its made with silver and has a single (albeit larger than the others) crystal on it, the most expensive is $200, and is probably for either the 5G iPod or the iPhone, they also sell a cleaning cloth, and a velvet pouch to keep the thing safe in.

Sadly it’s just a replica and won’t help you get back to the day you were conceived so you can slap your dad on the ass as he’s going at it and then laugh maniacally. But it does look cool, and if you do happen to have the good fortune of owning a DMC-12, it would be a very fitting accessory to add to your vehicle.

It lights up, and has various power settings, but that’s about the extent of it. It has a matching box that it comes in with a numbered CoA as well.

Buying one and putting it on a shelf? Lame. Buying one and then giving it to someone who owns a De Lorean? Epic. It appears to have similar power connections to that of a car amp, so it’s probably powered in much the same way as well. It will cost you $220 for the pleasure of owning one of these, kind of pricey, but it’s still cool.

It seems that someone is making a large amount of cash on gadgets decked out in Swarvoski crystals because every time I turn around there’s a new one. Although, I have to admit this extremely shiny Zelda themed Wii would have me rushing to the store, that is if it were in an actual physical store.

Every time I see something done in a similar style it always leaves me with that ‘ooh shiny’ kind of feeling. I imagine much like the feeling some used to get from a Pink Floyd concert, possibly minus the drug induced ‘trippy’ kind of feeling.

I don’t even want to begin to guess the price on this console, judging from the prices of similar gadgets. It takes a great amount of effort for me to save up for a standard game console, so I seriously doubt I could pull this bad boy off.

They last for an advertised 8 hours of talk time and 180 hours of standby time which is pretty amazing. They look nothing like a Bluetooth headset either.

The only thing I don’t like is the company’s site where you cant find a single picture from any other angle except in the flash ad on the front page where you can’t really see anything. But, they do have a picture of a model wearing one, and it doesn’t look too uncomfortable, which is good since that’s what some of their awards were for. If you want one, it will cost you $80, you can get it here.

I don’t know about you, but as a geek, I must admit, bright, shiny, and blinking are at the top of my list of “things that instantly and easily distract me”. Now, I know that’s a weird list to keep track of, but it started with squirrels and penguins, so I feel kind of normal for that.

Well, this new USB drive from TwinMos hits all three, its bright, mostly due to the LED lights and reflective surface, its shiny (again with the reflective surface), and its blinking (the LED’s blink, hopefully quite rapidly for maximum distractiveness). Oh, and 4GB USB drives also garner my attention.

So it has 4GB of storage, and the USB connector slides into the drive for easy concealment. There are a total of 6 LEDs, I think 5 of them are indicators and the 6th one just lights up the P1 logo. The drive works with Windows 2k+, Mac 10.1+, and Linux 2.4+. We don’t however have any info on price or when you’ll be able to get one.

So how did the PSP lose all its “extra baggage”? Firstly by removing the love-handles on the back that were for gripping, then moving a bunch of stuff around. Such as the wifi switch to the top, the speakers to the top and closer to the screen.

New or upgraded features include the TV output and a new slot loading UMD drive that is apparently far easier to use and seemingly less prone to breakage. There is also some new news surrounding the white slim PSP, namely the fact that it is to be coupled with Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron, oh and it has Darth Vader emblazoned upon the back of the PSP.

Apparently the shiny factor that mesmerizes a lot of us, applies to all males. At least that is the idea behind this product. The Jonny Glow Toilet Locater glows from beneath the seat to help the boys find their mark.

I’m not sure why any full grown male would need this, because if he misses I’m pretty sure that he is capable of cleaning it up right away to hide his transgression. However, I can definitely see the perks of having one for the younger boys. It would be helpful for potty training especially.

If you do have an easily distracted male in your household you might want to snag one of these. They are priced at $11.99.
