Softbank outs AQUOS 104SH Ice Cream Sandwich phone, more

Japanese carrier Softbank has revealed its latest line-up of Android smartphones, and if you love high-res screens and megapixel-packed cameras then it's enough to make you weep. Among the gems are the Sharp AQUOS 104SH, which Softbank says will launch running Ice Cream Sandwich on a 1.5GHz dual-core TI OMAP4460 processor, paired with a 4.5-inch 1280 x 720 display, 12.1-megapixel camera and IPX5/IPX7 ruggedness, expected to arrive in spring 2012.

LG, Philips and Sharp have joined Smart TV forces to create a common, open-standards based app development platform that will allow coders to create one version of their software to run on sets from all three manufacturers. A beta of the common SDK is expected to be released in early October, using HTML5, CE-HTML and HbbTV along with the promise that an app which runs on, say, one of Sharp's Aquos Net+ sets will also run on one of LG or Philips' Smart TV sets.

Android phone from Sharp AQUOS, today we get the next rebranded handset in the Hello Kitty Android flip phone. Is this just a Japanese fad, or are cross-brand re-releases of Android devices on the horizon?

What we're to understand we're looking at here is one strange combination of brands creating a device that's no less than completely absurd. This is a Yahoo! phone made for Japan (since Japan is still so very in love with Yahoo) and will be running on Android. You may recognize this device if you're familiar with Sharp's line of cute little phones: this one being a rebranded Sharp AQUOS smartphone in white. What the non-Google search engine group will be adding to the device is a brand new interface skin on the inside and a lovely new Yahoo! branded case on the outside - why they thought this would be an awesome idea is anyone's guess.

Details of two compact Android tablets have turned up at the FCC, with both the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Sharp 7-inch "EB-W71LJ-H" Galapagos slate crossing through testing.
