Pogoplug are pushing out a new update for their plug-and-play HDD sharing system, improving media streaming functionality and adding in the ability to set automatic copy jobs. The new Pogoplug firmware allows for streaming to PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles, presumably using DLNA, while Active Copy can be set to automatically copy files to a remote Pogoplug unit for offsite backups.

Latest to the SlashGear test bench is the Iomega iConnect, a compact box that can share both drives and printers to local and remote users. Intel Atom “storage optimized” platform promises faster NAS
Intel's Atom processors may be best known for their role in netbooks, but the low-power chips have also been making inroads into always-on devices such as NAS, RAID arrays and small servers. It comes as little surprise, then, that Intel have pushed out its first "storage-optimized" Atom-based platform, using the latest D410 and dualcore D510 CPUs paired with the high-throughput Intel 82801IR I/O Controller. Apparently the platform has already been picked up by LaCie, LG, QNAP, Synology and Thecus for upcoming products.

Synology DS710+ NAS Review
Synology have made a name for themselves in the network-attached storage segment for sturdy hardware, comprehensive software and decent performance, the the company are hoping to deliver all three once again with the DiskStation DS710+. Iomega iConnect Wireless Data Station turns USB drives into remote NAS
We've a feeling Iomega have been keeping an eye on Pogoplug, since the new Iomega iConnect Wireless Data Station offers the same sort of networked connectivity for USB drives. Basically a remotely-accessible NAS with no onboard storage, the iConnect has four USB 2.0 ports for hooking up external drives or memory keys, together with a gigabit ethernet port.

Iomega StorCenter ix2-200 gets bigger, swappable drives
It's been a long time since we reviewed Iomega's original StorCenter ix2 NAS, and the company have finally got around to updating the dual-drive consumer/small-office backup and media-sharing system. The Iomega StorCenter ix2-200 keeps the compact footprint of its predecessor but boosts capacity - 1TB, 2TB and 4TB models are on offer - upgrade potential and green credentials.
Unlike the ix2, the ix2-200 has twin user-accessible drive bays, and they're filled with low-power drives that are automatically spun-down when not in use. The StorCenter also has DLNA media streaming, RAID 1 drive spanning for improved data security, three USB ports for plugging in external drives or webcams, and optional Bluetooth for wirelessly transferring files from mobile devices.

Netgear Stora 1TB home NAS arrives
Netgear have unveiled their latest home storage device, the Stora, which the company is positioning not only as a NAS backup but as a media-sharing hub. The Netgear Stora takes two 3.5-inch SATA drives and connects via gigabit ethernet; there are also two USB 2.0 ports for sharing printers or plugging in external drives. ASUS Home Server TS mini leaks: compact dual-drive NAS
Details and fuzzy live shots of ASUS' upcoming Home Server have leaked, and while there's no official word from the company themselves this looks like the kind of compact storage we would happily find space for on our bookshelves. The 9.6 x 3.8 x 8 inch ASUS Home Server TS mini packs twin 3.5-inch hard-drives together with a fulsome six USB 2.0 ports and two eSATA ports.

LG N2R1 NAS saves “precious family memories”, packs DVD burner
LG have announced a new NAS (network-attached storage) which rather than positioning as a computer peripheral are instead suggesting would make a great place to back up multimedia files. The LG N2R1 packs up to 2TB of storage and RAID data redundancy, and can function as a DLNA or iTunes media server in addition to backing up your family photos, videos of grandparents falling off chairs and other priceless clips.

Iomega StorCenter ix4-200d NAS: up to 8TB plus optional Bluetooth
If only this were a desktop microwave-cum-coffee-machine, ideal for topping up your caffeine levels and heating up your harried lunches, but sadly it's just Iomega's latest NAS. Apple 2TB Time Capsule lands for $499
Apple have quietly added a new 2TB Time Capsule to their line-up, three months after the backup device refresh was tipped. As with the existing 1TB model, the 2TB Time Capsule acts as both a WiFi draft-n router with simultaneous dual-band support and as a backup facility that works with OS X Leopard's automated Time Machine app.
