Apple and carrier Orange have announced that their exclusivity agreement in France has ended prematurely, after telecoms regulators decided the deal was "a new rigidity factor in a sector that already suffers from lack of competition."  The news comes after a temporary injunction filed back in December 2008 - and later upheld in a review in February - following complaints from network rivals Bouygues Telecom and SFR.

Is it the morning for Android-based MIDs?  Jenn over at Pocketables has turned up evidence of two devices both running Google’s open-source mobile platform, in the shape of the Eston MID-02 slider and a video of French carrier SFR’s M! PC Pocket running the OS.  Eston’s device – which is also branded as the M4301 – has a 4.3-inch resistive touchscreen and can dual-boot Windows CE 6.0 and Android.

With rival carrier Orange France rocking their Tabbee WiFi tablet, SFR are retaliating with a compact companion device of their own.  The SFR Hubster is currently in trials across France, offering a compact touchscreen, streaming photos, music and video, together with internet access over WiFi or a wired ethernet connection.
