Duracell’s Star Wars commercial is better than the prequels

Duracell’s Star Wars commercial is better than the prequels

The video spot you're about to see takes on Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Christmas morning. Therein you'll find the fight for the Republic, as executed by a couple of youngling Jedi wielding some fabulous battery-laden lightsabers. They're using Duracell batteries, of course, as the video was made for Duracell batteries with licensing from Lucasfilm. This story is just one minute long, but it'll thrill, it'll chill, and it'll make you understand the true nature of The Force. With batteries.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 casting calls for beautiful women and odd men

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 casting calls for beautiful women and odd men

A bit of outrage has been prematurely sparked this week as the first casting call for extras on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is sent out. While this first casting release calls for "beautiful/model aliens - MEN and WOMEN" and "Character Aliens - MEN (only)", it also calls for "BALD WOMEN" separately - and is, of course, only the first of MANY such casting calls that'll be revealed over the next few weeks and months. Director James Gunn took to Twitter to stem the influx of negative outcry over the situation this morning.

The Star Wars toy BB-8 by Sphero is given a software update that includes exclusive content from The Force Awakens several weeks before the film's premiere. While you can see the relatively limited holographic projection action released with the device initially in our first BB-8 review, today we're running down the extras delivered in this update. Both C-3PO and R2-D2 are now here to provide us with a couple of clues as to what will be happening in the film. Very, very tiny clues.

Star Wars The Force Awakens will stream on Netflix

Star Wars The Force Awakens will stream on Netflix

The Chief Content Officer of Netflix, Ted Sarandos, spoke this month with shareholders to tell them the news about Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It would seem that while the movie would potentially be on the service in Canada as early as the end of this year, the film won't be available to Netflix for streaming until Netflix gets streaming rights from Starz inside the year 2016. There's a bit of missing information here when you read this story on other publications publishing before SlashGear.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer 3 released in 4K and Music editions

The original "3rd" Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer (otherwise known as the first full-length trailer) has already garnered many millions of views in just over a day. Now Lucasfilm has decided to bestow upon us two new versions of the trailer - one without words, the other in full Ultra HD, aka glorious 4K resolution. These trailers show the same content as before - they're just better for one reason (far higher-definition) or the other (time to bask in the greatness of John Williams' score alone).

Star Wars the “biggest surge for movie tickets our industry has ever seen”

According to Alamo Drafthouse theater chain CEO Tim League, Star Wars The Force Awakens has created "the single biggest simultaneous surge for movie tickets our industry has ever seen." This in a single night, according to League, as the first full-length trailer was released during an ESPN football broadcast and releases in Disneyland-based movie theaters and online via YouTube. "The Alamo Drafthouse has been preparing for this hugely important day for the past nine months," said League, "and we thought we were ready."

Is Boba Fett in Star Wars The Force Awakens? [UPDATE 2]

Is Boba Fett in Star Wars The Force Awakens? [UPDATE 2]

One of MANY Easter Eggs found in the new Star Wars The Force Awakens trailer released this week was a pair of banners bearing familiar imagery. One banner features the "Boba Fett Symbol" as some like to call it, another bears the "Boba Fett Wheat". These banners appear above the heads of Finn, Rey, BB-8, and Han Solo as they enter what we can only assume is the headquarters of some nefarious criminal organization. We might have already seen this organization's insides, too.

Star Wars The Force Awakens trailer released in full

The first full trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been released to the public - not just a teaser, but a full, real-deal trailer this time. This trailer was released during a football game on ESPN during half-time - just about as strange a place as a Star Wars trailer has ever premiered. This release follows a release of the first (final) poster for the film. You'll want to see the Star Wars parody poster collection for starters - right after you watch the video, of course.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens poster parodies ’till trailer time

Last night Lucasfilm released the first (or last?) official Star Wars: The Force Awakens poster in anticipation of the first full-length trailer. That trailer will be debuting tonight during Monday-night Football on ESPN. Until then - or depending on when you read this article, after then - we're having a peek at the poster in all its different iterations. There's a tall version, yes - that'll go with the rest of the collection - but there's also a horizontal compilation. There's also a new nest of fan-edited posters surfacing this week.
