Jony Ive’s Lightsaber: not another iPhone

Jony Ive’s Lightsaber: not another iPhone

Believe it or not, not every device or piece of software Apple design guru Jony Ive has conceived looks as smooth and precise as an iPhone. In fact this week a conversation has come to light - one between Jony Ive and the director of the next Star Wars film, J.J. Abrams. In a chat between the two, Abrams suggests that Ive made "very specific" suggestions on how a re-designed lightsaber might look. Not smooth, nor refined. Just the opposite - far more gritty.

Behold, Furbacca: the Furby Chewbacca

Behold, Furbacca: the Furby Chewbacca

The very first licensed Furby toy in the history of Hasbro's Furby lineup is, appropriately, from Star Wars. Furbacca, he's called, and he's part of Hasbro's return to the market with the Furby brand. Chewbacca's visage might be slightly less recognizable than your average licensed Star Wars collectible or toy - coming with the standard yellow beak of the Furby rather than his own furry set of chompers. Is this a one-off, or is this the start of something great for Hasbro's strange, speaking electronic friend collection?

Star Wars Humble Bundle summons the Dark Forces

Star Wars Humble Bundle summons the Dark Forces

Today Humble Bundle brings heat with a number of Star Wars-themed games for PC, Linux, and Mac. The team behind Humble Bundle have successfully high-fived the folks who own the rights to these games - previously called LucasArts - and are pushing cash to charity. Users are asked to pay $1 or more - hopefully a lot more - to gain access to a number of rad games from Star Wars history. And what's that - at least one super classic title - Dark Forces, the original 3rd-party Dash Rendar-like character first person shooter back from the dead.

Escape from New York remake once penned by Star Wars’ Gary Whitta

At one point in the very recent past, Gary Whitta was hired to script the first in a series of stand-alone Star Wars movies. These movies would star characters like Boba Fett and Han Solo - and they're still on the books once Star Wars: The Force Awakens is released. Whitta has revealed today that he'd also been working on another cult classic film within the past couple of years - one that's just been acquired by Fox. Here you're seeing the title for Gary Whitta's synopsis for a remake of the 1981 John Carpenter cult classic film Escape from New York.

Aliens sequel visualized by director of District 9, Elysium [UPDATE]

We don't really know what to believe when it comes to this proposed sequel to Aliens. Images posted by Director and Visual Effects artist Neill Blomkamp have sparked our interest, that's for certain - but whether or not he'd actually been attached to a film is unconfirmed. What we do know is that we'd certainly have loved to see a dark, alternate universe in the eye of Blomkamp, especially after seeing these illustrations. Blomkamp previously directed Elysium and District 9 - his next film is Chappie.

’12 Monkeys’ TV show to sync with Philips Hue for mood lighting

In the movie ’12 Monkeys’, time traveler James Cole skips around our timeline trying to thwart the efforts of one organization bent on destroying humanity via a virus. The movie itself is dystopian cool, and a TV show of the same variety would be like Quantum Leap for a new generation. There will be a TV show, too; a spinoff from the movie/short story is currently in production via Syfy, but will have one really neat twist to it.
