BB-8 by Sphero Review Part II: 3 months later

BB-8 by Sphero Review Part II: 3 months later

Believe it or not, BB-8 remains part of our everyday lives three months after we published our first review. This little guy sits charging next to my television - I'm just a few feet away from him right now. That's a real rarity when it comes to reviews of oddities. With a smartphone, sure - it's not unheard of that I might stick with a smartphone for months and months. But a toy? In this case, even though I've reviewed products galore in the meantime, this BB-8 by Sphero toy has remained in heavy circulation.

Star Wars Bad Lip Reading adds Jack Black, Maya Rudolph, Bill Hader

Star Wars Bad Lip Reading adds Jack Black, Maya Rudolph, Bill Hader

The Star Wars content you're about to witness has nothing to do with the "s" word, nor is it in celebration of The Force Awakens. It might be a LITTLE bit in celebration of The Force Awakens, but not directly. Unless you count the fact that Bill Hader helped create the voice for BB-8, but that's completely beside the point. Right now you're going to watch some Bad Lip Reading, or BLR, for all three of the original Star Wars movies. This is an entirely new epic.

10 ways to celebrate Star Wars TFA without spoilers

10 ways to celebrate Star Wars TFA without spoilers

Despite the fact that the movie doesn't open to the public for roughly another day, there have already been a fair number of people who have seen the film. Big stars, and movie reviewers have been treated to a screening of the film, as tends to happen before it opens up to the general public. Unfortunately that means that spoilers are already out there. One company has already started sending out promotional tweets that give away details of the movie. So what do you do? If you want to avoid spoilers, you need to disconnect from the internet.

Star Wars Yule Log time: Five hours of Darth Vader’s burning suit

Star Wars Yule Log time: Five hours of Darth Vader’s burning suit

This afternoon we happened upon a YouTube-based Yule log uploaded this month by one giant Star Wars fan by the name of Benjamin Apple. This fellow took the idea of Vader burning on the pyre, as a Yule Log for Christmas, and made it into a 5-hour-long epic. Here you can enjoy the fullness of the greatest villain of all time burning, burning on into the darkness, on your own Christmas Eve. There you'll be thinking about how long it'll be before you're able to see The Force Awakens once more - just 12 short hours. Or maybe 18.

Today Google has released a Chrome-based game which uses your laptop computer's Google Chrome web browser and the Chrome web browser on your smartphone to play an augmented reality game. You'll be using your phone much like you'd use a Wii controller, while the game's content is shown on your desktop machine's big screen.

What you're going to see here may ruin the movie for you. We must put up the "SPOILER ALERT" sign here just in case you've not already seen the lot.

Star Trek Beyond trailer uses Beastie Boys music

Star Trek Beyond trailer uses Beastie Boys music

The first trailer for Star Trek Beyond has been revealed, and it's a good time having ho-down of action. This isn't going to be a movie based on ships in space so much as it's going to be about the Enterprise sort of... getting swarmed and crashing. That'll happen within the first half of the movie, so it's no spoiler! Also this trailer features the Beastie Boys. That's strange, if you consider the fact that MCA, (may he RIP), stipulated in his will that "what you get is what you see, and you wont see me in the advertisiiing."

Independence Day: Resurgence trailer sows seeds of hopelessness

Independence Day: Resurgence trailer sows seeds of hopelessness

The first trailer for Independence Day 2, a.k.a. Independence Day: Resurgence, which unexpectedly landed in the middle of a Sunday afternoon football game, is depressing. And no, that's not because of Will Smith's absence. Many of the original ensemble has once again been gathered by director Roland Emmirch, only perhaps to be killed off (or not) this time around. It's because the aliens are back, and they're back with a vengeance. Not to mention a more epic force. The trailer naturally paints a dark and depressing scenario where now you really get to question whether the Earth and its inhabitants survive this second bout.

Star Wars Droid Turbo 2: you can now own a BB-8 phone

With Star Wars The Force Awakens' release just days away, Verizon reveals a full collection of special edition Star Wars Droid Turbo 2 devices, fully customized. Remember that R2-D2 DROID phone from Verizon released all the way back in the year 2010? That device was pretty neat, if not just a bit plain for our now more modern tastes - but wait, what's this? Verizon has once again teamed with Lucasfilm for a licensing deal that goes above and beyond what they've got with the word "Droid" (yes, that word is effectively owned by Lucasfilm and therefor Disney.) Now the Motorola-made Verizon Droid Turbo 2 is coming back with Moto Maker customizations aplenty.

You’re going to Mars, I went to NASA

You’re going to Mars, I went to NASA

I woke up at 5:30 AM after a string of nightmares about being left alone on a dusty red planet. Like a fool I'd eaten a gigantic piece of chocolate cake the night before while watching a set of tiny teaser clips of "The Martian" to mentally prepare for the next day, which was then, now, today. "It's OK," I told myself. "Stay calm. You're in Houston. You're on East NASA Parkway in the same hotel you'd checked in to the day before. Today you're going to go on a brief ride in a Mars rover and talk to an astronaut."

This is the desert planet you've witnessed in the trailers over the past few weeks. Here you'll meet your buddy and ours, the roly-poly astromech droid BB-8.

LEGO Star Wars: Droid Tales Interview Part III: I am your REDACTED

How do you tell a child that Anakin Skywalker was a murderer? What do you do when it comes time for your daughter to find out that Luke Skywalker's father is, indeed, the dark and deadly Darth Vader? That was the task of "LEGO Star Wars: Droid Tales" writer Michael Price, who today answers us that key question - what was allowed to stay in the animated re-telling of the Star Wars saga, and what had to be taken out? What needed to be changed for the children.
