Star Wars practical effects: J.J. Abrams speaks on the standard

This morning during Star Wars Celebration 2015, J.J. Abrams spoke about practical effects in the next movie. He spoke about how they went to Abu Dabi to film the first planet you see in the first teaser for the film - on a planet he revealed was called "Jaku" (we'll see a correct spelling soon). In that place - in the desert - they made the film as complete as they could without effects. In fact, Abrams suggested that the first copy of the film - before Industrial Light and Magic steps in with special effects - the movie can be watched in its entirety.

Star Wars 7 Trailer 2: coming April 17th

Star Wars 7 Trailer 2: coming April 17th

There are several different times at which the next Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer might be entering your eye sockets. The first is April 17th - this is one day after the first day of Star Wars Celebration, where - rumor suggests - Lucasfilm will be releasing the next teaser trailer for the next Star Wars movie. One day or less, that'd be, before low-quality versions of the trailer (filmed by amateur thieves) is released, and probably one day or less between the showing of said teaser trailer and the online release of said trailer.

The movie is based on the book by the same title, written by Ernest Cline, a fellow who today suggested that, due to the Spielberg assignment, he'd be having "a massive coronary" in the very near future.

Tie Fighter Anime whets your appetite for Star Wars 7

What's that - a TIE-fighter anime series? Not quite. More like a taste of what's possible made by a single artist. The artist known as MightyOtaking has created the full-sized version of the demo 2-minute picture he'd been working on earlier this year, this piece of work simply called "TIE Fighter (short film)". "Drawn and animated by yours truly," he says, "over 4 years worth of weekends." You'll notice several sound effects from the original TIE Fighter video game for PC - that's the inspiration for this whole project, after all.
