Star Wars The Force Awakens toys cover only film’s “first third”

Star Wars The Force Awakens toys cover only film’s “first third”

As you may have guessed, the Star Wars merchandise revealed for The Force Awakens thus far is not the full shebang. Steve Evans, Hasbro's design director for their Star Wars line of toys, spoke this week on the future of the toy line. He revealed that the Star Wars: The Force Awakens toys released thus far had been purposefully restricted in their detail. The detail they'd reveal about the film, not the detail in their plastic. They are, in fact, only from "the first third of the film."

Star Wars Rogue One PS4 VR helmet bundle is fake, but not that far off

Star Wars Rogue One PS4 VR helmet bundle is fake, but not that far off

Today a magnificent forgery has gone viral - one that shows the possibilities with a Star Wars game with its own virtual reality helmet. Not only does this helmet look and feel like a real Rogue Squadron X-Wing pilot helmet, it also incorporates Sony's Project Morpheus - or better known now as PlayStation VR. Again, this bundle isn't actually real - it's a clever construction - but it's not that far off point. ILMxLAB will soon be making products like this a reality.

Star Wars 360 video sends you speeding on Jakku

Star Wars 360 video sends you speeding on Jakku

This morning the first 360-degree immersive Star Wars: The Force Awakens experience was released - and what a doozie it is. This experience comes in the form of a 360-degree Facebook video, created with the technology described in our first ILMxLAB feature. Here you'll be jamming along the sands of Jakku on the speeder you saw in the first couple of teaser trailers for the new movie. You're driving as Rey would, and if you listen closely, you'll hear that the droid BB-8 is along for the ride as well. Watch out for desert marauders while you're out there.

Star Wars original theatrical cuts tipped for re-release

Star Wars original theatrical cuts tipped for re-release

This evening the re-release of the original Star Wars movies - the theatrical cuts of the movies, that is - has been tipped. Not announced by Lucasfilm or Disney, but tipped, by film director John Landis. Landis is a friend of George Lucas and apparently suggested to him that the original cuts of the first three Star Wars films would be re-released. Not necessarily on any sort of format - DVD, Blu-Ray, or anything specific that we know of - just re-released.

Video shows Star Wars Prequels “rhyme” with original trilogy

Video shows Star Wars Prequels “rhyme” with original trilogy

A video showing the intense visual similarities between the original Star Wars trilogy and each successive prequel has been released. This video was made by a creator by the name of "whoispablo", a rather big Star Wars fan and certainly someone who isn't part of the "We hate the Prequels" club. Here you'll see George Lucas suggest of the prequels: "you see the echo of where all is gonna go. It's like poetry, they rhyme", followed by proof.

Latest Star Wars The Force Awakens photos show tiniest details

Latest Star Wars The Force Awakens photos show tiniest details

Today we've been passed a set of photos and cut-out images from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, most of them new to our eyes. These images will be used in merchandise for the film in the near future - you might even see some of these pictures popping up in stores near you on products like posters and wall-clings later this month. For now though, what better way to make use of the lot of them than to hyper-analyze and otherwise turn the lot into wallpapers for your phone and tablet?

This is Devon’s $28,500 Star Wars watch

The team at Devon Works, LLC have worked directly work Lucasfilm Ltd. to create a wrist watch that looks like a TIE fighter. This watch will cost a cool $28,500 USD, and will be limited to 500 units. Hand-made, designed with some intense detail, detail reserved only for those intense enough - and rich enough - to set their sights on a watch that costs more than a brand new car. Of course, if you're looking for the most expensive non-prop Star Wars item, you might have found just what you're looking for.

100 day Star Wars The Force Awakens countdown begins in 3D

100 day Star Wars The Force Awakens countdown begins in 3D

Depending on where you're living in the world, you're either hours or minutes away from the 100-day countdown 'till the release of the next Star Wars movie. To celebrate the occasion, it would seem, the folks at RealD 3D have revealed four sets of official Star Wars 3D glasses. RealD is the licensor of the stereoscopic 3D technology most likely in a theater near you. If you've ever gone to a 3D movie with a pair of black glasses (not red and blue), you've probably done so using RealD technology. Now they've gone fully Star Wars crazy.

C-3PO’s red arm explained in a new Marvel Comic

C-3PO’s red arm explained in a new Marvel Comic

This December (before Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we must assume), C-3PO's red arm will be explained in a comic book. Made by Marvel Comics and coming with a bonus digital edition with purchase, this comic will be a one-shot. That means it's not necessarily going to be a super long comic series - just a limited set. The comic goes by the name Star Wars Special: C-3P0 #1, and it'll be written by a fellow who's especially pumped up to be telling the tale.

We're beginning with just the bits you've likely seen in the teaser trailers - plus one more tiny transport you've probably never seen before.

There’s a cheaper BB-8 “drone” too, from Hasbro

Just in case you didn't want to get the real-deal BB-8 by Sphero this Force Friday, there is another. This is supposing you're not wanting to pay one hundred and fifty dollars for the greatest Star Wars toy ever made, that is to say. If that's a bit out of your price range, there's also the Hasbro Target exclusive remote control BB-8, one that's not nearly so fantastic, one that works with AA-batteries instead of rechargeable built-in batteries.
