X-Files return official for 6 episodes

This week the folks at Fox have made official the return of the X-Files TV show. A run of 6 episodes will be airing soon - though the exact release date has been withheld as yet. The production of this series will begin in the Summer of 2015 - very soon. "I think of it as a 13-year commercial break," said creator/executive producer Chris Carter, "The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories." Six individual stories, that is to say, not one long-running episode split into six.

The original R2-D2 virtual keyboard is gone. It's forever on the shelves and in the display cases of collectors around the world, for the rest of time. For those of you that missed it, there's always the imperial droid R2-Q5, his black and orange-ness, as we call him around here. This fellow is being released by the same company that originally released his R2-D2 equivalent, and this version will be released on May the 4th, 2015, just in time for the most important holiday of the entire year.

A massive-scale 3rd-person action game called "Star Wars 1313" was "canceled" when Disney acquired Lucasfilm - now that game's remnants may be fueling The Force Awakens. Not just a new video game, reworked and retooled for a more film-friendly title, but for the first film in the new trilogy, as well. The game bit we'll be discussing in short today - the movie part of this equation we'll be saving for when we've got more details from Lucasfilm. Today's details involve Amy Hennig, Todd Stashwick, and the transfer of writing power from the Uncharted series to Star Wars 1313.

Earlier this week NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang confirmed that Lucasfilm was using NVIDIA technology to make Star Wars: The Force Awakens. "I'm out-of-my-body excited about this," said Huang, "I'll create any technology that helps them make Star Wars faster." Today NVIDIA confirmed what hardware Lucasfilm was using to push the next generation in Star Wars production. "To create the most immersive and visually exciting imagery imaginable," said Lutz Latta, Principal Engineer at Lucasfilm, "Lucasfilm artists and developers need optimal graphics performance and GPU power."

Star Wars Battlefront set for reveal at Star Wars Celebration 2015

In Anaheim, California between the 16th and the 19th of April - coming quick - Star Wars Celebration 2015 will take place. There we'll get more than the average dosage of Star Wars-related data and fan-friendly releases, amongst them a handy helping of the newest Battlefront game. Star Wars VIII release date and director revealed

Today the Star Wars PR spirits have been kind - they've revealed the title of the next Star Wars stand-alone film AND details on Star Wars VIII. This next Star Wars film will be continuing the events that end at the finale of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Star Wars VIII does not yet have a title, but it does have a writer and a director - both will be Rian Johnson. This fellow also directed some of the most awesome action and sci-fi movies of the past several years, including Brick, The Brothers Bloom, and Looper.

“TRON 3″ production tipped to start October

Flynn Lives! Again! Or so we hope. Fans of the iconic sci-fi franchise who were left on the edge their seats for a sequal to 2010's hit TRON: Legacy will just have to wait for another year or so. But then again, they might be faced with an even bigger cliffhanger then. Industry buzz is claiming that the next TRON film will commence production this Fall and even have an exact October 5 date. Leonard Nimoy, 83, passes away at home

Leonard Nimoy is gone. The actor died this morning at his Bel Air home in Los Angeles. His passing has been confirmed by his wife, Susan Bay Nimoy, who says the cause of his death was late-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Leonard Nimoy said last year his disease was caused by years of smoking, though he had given up the habit some 30 years ago. According to The New York Times, Nimoy was hospitalized earlier in the week.

It seems like there might be a trend of old sci-fi hits getting new sequels soon. Just recently Neill Blomkamp has revealed some details about a new Aliens sequel that he will be directing, including where in the fiction's timeline it will take place. Now it seems that another sci-fi favorite will be returning to the big screen. It seems that District 9 and Elysium director Neill Blomkamp is not one for keeping fans guessing for long. Just last week he confirmed that he indeed will be taking the helm of the next installment in the Alien franchise. Now, he laying bare the timeline for the film. His film, title still unknown, will indeed take place after the events of Aliens, the second title in the film franchise.
